BRS ridicules Uttam's argument on operating Kalwakurthy lift, Kannepally PH
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has ridiculed the argument of Minister for Irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who had stated that it was not possible to lift water from Medigadda Barrage damaged due to the sinking of piers, and observed that it is not the barrage that had sunk but it is the willingness of the ruling party.
Speaking at a party meeting here on Monday, former minister for irrigation T. Harish Rao accused Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy of waiting for 'auspicious' time to switch on the motors of Kalwakurthy, when Andhra Pradesh had already started drawing water from Pothireddypadu Head Regulator as Srisailam reservoir was getting flood from the last week of May itself.
He asked Mr. Uttam Reddy to prove that A.P. had not drawn 65 tmc ft allocated water share of Telangana during the last water year, as the State government had failed to avail its share of Krishna water for the first time since formation of the State. On switching on the motors of the Kannepally pump house linked to Medigadda, he said over one-lakh cusecs flood water was passing by the pump house and there was no need to stop/store water in the barrage to lift water from Kannepally.
Separately, another former minister V. Prashanth Reddy said there was no link to the BRS demand for switching on motors of Kannepally pump house and sinking of some piers in Medigadda Barrage, as water could be lifted at Kannepally with minimum draw level of 93.5 meters flow in the river. It was flowing at about 96 meters level now.
He stated that there was no need to store water in Medigadda to operate Kannepally and two other upstream pump houses. He said several reservoirs, minor irrigation tanks and check-dams could be filled with water with link I and II of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
On the claims of Mr. Uttam Reddy for achieving 283 lakh tonnes of paddy production last year, Mr. Prashanth Reddy sought to know whether it had become possible without constructing any new project or completing any pending project or de-silting any reservoir.

Gadwal: In a strongly-worded declaration of discontent, senior Congress leaders and grassroots workers from Gadwal expressed their anger over the party's alleged neglect of BC (Backward Class) leadership and loyal cadre. At an extended Congress party workers' meeting held at Brindavan Gardens in Gadwal, former Municipal Chairman B.S. Keshav and former Vice Chairman, TPCC member Ganjipet Shankar, led the chorus of voices demanding recognition and justice from the party high command. Allegations of Neglect and Injustice Addressing the gathering, B.S. Keshav alleged that although SC, ST, BC, and Minority communities played a crucial role in establishing a Congress-led people's government in Telangana, the very same communities — especially in Gadwal — are now being sidelined. He accused the party of ignoring the local BC leadership and said that this neglect is contradictory to the principles on which the current Congress government came to power. Keshav emphasized that before the 2023 Assembly elections, the Congress party in Gadwal was in a fragile state, and it was only under the leadership of party in-charge Saritha Tirupathayya that grassroots-level efforts were made to strengthen the party. 'Despite losing the election by a narrow margin, Saritha remains a people's leader with moral victory,' he said. Protest Against MLA Defection and Party's Silence The leaders strongly criticized the Congress high command for giving prominence to a BRS MLA who defected into the Congress post-elections. They claimed this act demoralized the local cadre, who had worked tirelessly during the elections. They also pointed out that nominated posts and welfare benefits have not been extended to grassroots workers who supported Congress through thick and thin. Ganjipet Shankar emphasized that even now, party workers continue to work sincerely under Saritha's leadership, responding to the party's call despite being overlooked. Demand for Clarity from High Command The leaders questioned why, when AICC leader Rahul Gandhi is championing 42% reservation for BCs, the Congress party is failing to uphold the same ideals in Gadwal. 'What is the Congress party's stance on Saritha's leadership? Has she been sidelined? The high command must clarify,' they demanded. The meeting saw loud support for the demand that Saritha's supporters should be prioritized in local body elections and schemes such as the Indiramma Housing Scheme. The leaders said that the entire Gadwal constituency stood behind Saritha during the elections, and despite conspiracies leading to her narrow defeat, she continues to have mass support, especially among the weaker sections. Threat of Protest March to Gandhi Bhavan Strong criticism was leveled against the inclusion and elevation of leaders from other parties, particularly the BRS MLA, while loyal Congress workers were left unrewarded. 'How can those who did not wear the Congress scarf or campaign for the party now receive the benefits meant for real Congress workers?' they questioned. 'If the Congress high command continues to ignore the workers who stood by the party in its lowest phase and gives opportunities to outsiders who came through the back door, we will launch a protest march from Gadwal to Gandhi Bhavan,' they warned. BRS to begin its preparedness for local bodies' polls with constituency-level meetings
HYDERABAD The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to hold constituency-level meetings for key workers this week as part of preparing the party for the forthcoming local bodies' elections. Working president K.T. Rama Rao said the meetings are aimed at exposing the betrayal of the Congress government over the last 20 months. Asking the party leaders to focus on the Congress government's failures, including betrayals against farmers and other sections of the society, he said the meetings must discuss collapse of governance due to the incompetence of the Revanth Reddy-led government. He told the party ranks to prepare for local bodies' elections, likely to be held soon in the light of court orders, rigorously. He tasked the district presidents of the party with coordinating the meetings in every constituency. The meetings would see participation of the party sitting and former MLAs, MLCs, MPs, ZP Chairpersons, former corporation chairpersons, and senior State committee members. He wanted the meeting to highlight the government's neglect of farmers, including the non-implementation of the Rythu Bandhu/Bharosa scheme and its failure to address shortage of urea and seed. He criticized the government's inaction on irrigation and power supply issues, affecting farmers over the past 20 months. Asking the party ranks to educate/inform people about the Congress government's lack of sincerity in implementing the promised 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) and its deceptive attempts to push it with the help of an ordinance and also on the promise to enhance social security pension amount to various categories of beneficiaries. Conditions finalised and vetted for ordering forensic audit of Dharani transactions
The stage is being set for the commencement of forensic audit into the alleged irregularities in the transactions of Dharani, the integrated land record management system, introduced by the BRS government. After announcing its resolve to conduct a thorough probe into Dharani affairs, the State government has entrusted the responsibility of working out modalities to order a comprehensive probe into the alleged lapses to senior officials. Officials have accordingly finalised terms and conditions ahead of roping in the agency that will conduct the forensic audit. The development follows the spate of grievances registered ever since the enactment of the 2020 Record of Rights Act and introduction of Dharani portal. There were complaints like patta lands being put in the Part-B, the prohibited list, which contained over 18 lakh acres and those about the difficulties faced by landowners by the removal of enjoyment column in the land registration documents. This resulted in mismatch between the extent of land in records and the actual land available on the ground. There are complaints about missing survey numbers as also on lands being registered in the name of others without the knowledge of the actual owners. There were several instances where records were uploaded into Dharani portal without field inspections. 'The agreement is in drafting stage. Conditions have been finalised and vetted. We are awaiting clearance from the Law department for proceeding further,' a senior official told The Hindu. It was decided in principle to handover the responsibility of forensic audit to reputed public sector agencies with expertise in the field. 'We have shortlisted five such agencies,' the official said. According to him, the government will call for expression of interest (EoI) from these agencies once the Law department clears the terms and conditions for the audit. The official however did not respond when asked whether the Kerala Security Audit and Assurance Centre is among the shortlisted agencies.
