Drinkwitz, Harper on ‘Zou to You tour

Yahoo09-05-2025
SPRINGFIELD, Mo–Lets talk Mizzou Tiger athletics.
The annual 'Zou to you tour swung through Springfield Thursday afternoon.
Football coach Eli Drinkwitz, assistant basketball coach Dicky Nutt and new women's basketball coach Kellie Harper met with Mizzou fans at lunch time.
It was Harper's first trip to Springfield since she got the Mizzou job back in mid-March.
She was the Lady Bears coach for six seasons and led Missouri State to two NCAA tournaments.
Eli Drinkwitz' football team was 10-3 last season and won the Music City Bowl.
Both coaches say it's important to get out in the Show-Me State and meet the fans.
'We're appreciative of the fans. They drive on Saturdays from a long way away to come watch us play. For us to be able to make that trip easy for them to come to celebrate their passion is exciting,' said Drinkwitz.
'It's always good to touch base with your fan base. They need to hear you. They need to see you. We do not take for granted. When they're in the stands it matters and it makes a difference. It does and we don't take that for granted. This is our way of getting out and saying hello to our fans,' said Harper.

Bryce Harper one-ups Kyle Schwarber bomb in style

The post Bryce Harper one-ups Kyle Schwarber bomb in style appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kyle Schwarber's power has made headlines this season as the Philadelphia Phillies DH reached the 30 home run mark for the seventh time in his career. And his season-long power surge continued Wednesday with another homer against the Boston Red Sox. But Phillies star Bryce Harper one-upped his teammate as the duo launched back-to-back bombs. Schwarber got the Phillies on the board in the first inning with a two-run homer off Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito that travelled 409 feet. Then Harper followed with his own blast on the very next pitch. Harper demolished a 94 mph four-seamer from Giolito. The two-time MVP sent the middle-middle offering into the second deck at Citizens Bank Park for a 439-foot solo shot. It was Harper's 14th homer of the season and No. 350 of his career, per MLB. Phillies' star Bryce Harper heats up after slow start to season Schwarber went deep for the 34th time this year on Wednesday. He has the fifth-most home runs in the majors and he's third in the National League behind Shohei Ohtani and Eugenio Suarez. He reached 300 career homers earlier this season. It's been a remarkable run for the 11th-year veteran as he leads all Phillies hitters in home runs, RBI, runs scored and bWAR. And Schwarber made All-Star Game history this season, being named MVP without recording a hit in the contest. He helped the National League win with three home runs during a tie-breaking swing-off. It was his third-career All-Star appearance. Harper meanwhile has struggled a bit in 2025. The 14th-year veteran dealt with a wrist injury that sidelined him for 22 games in June. However, he's been heating up after a slow start. Since returning from the IL on June 30, Harper is slashing .322/.429/.678. He now has five home runs and nine doubles in the last 16 games. After the duo gave the Phillies a comfortable lead early, the Red Sox battled back. Boston first baseman Romy Gonzalez hit a grand slam off Jesus Luzardo in the fifth, putting the Red Sox up 6-5. Kirk Herbstreit: Play-in games may be right fix for College Football Playoff

Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz spoke with the ESPN college football analyst about the suggestion from Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz that creating play-in games for automatic bids to the playoff may be the right solution moving forward. View more Video Transcript So I'm not sure in the short term how to get the Big Ten and the SEC to play nice in the sandbox together. Maybe they don't have to, but you've seen all of the playoff proposals. What do you think of what the Big Ten wants to do now with automatic qualifiers for their conference? I like, I like what Eli Drinkwitz came out and said against his own conference and, saying that why don't we have more play and opportunities. You know, can you imagine instead of that last Saturday this season being just the SEC or Big 10 or Big 12 or ACC championship. Imagine if the SEC had 1 and 2, but then you also have 3 and 6 and 4 and 5 playing each other. And imagine if we had the excitement of 3 and 6, winner of that game is in the playoff. 4 and 5, the winner of that game is in the playoff. I think that is fascinating, and he was very passionate in the way he described that. I would be a fan of that personally. And give these teams hope, as opposed to, you know, just the two teams that play in the conference championship have a shot to get that automatic spot, and then you're hoping for at large after that. I love the idea of a kind of a play-in weekend, throughout the entire country. I think that would create a ton of buzz for the players, and for the fans. It's fun debate, it's subjective, it creates a lot of passion. But I think it really, if you go back to the play-in model that I'm suggesting, it takes away some of the pressure of just a committee selecting these teams, and it gives the actual players a chance to set on the field by giving them that if they qualify, a play-in game, and then you have no one to blame. Hey, you were in, you had the play-in game, you lost, so you have no one to blame. You can't blame the committee. You know, you lost a football game, so you're not going. So I think that would be the right way to go personally. Close
