A 26-year-old Joint Base Lewis-McChord resident, suspected of driving under the influence, is facing a vehicular assault charge after crashing a car and injuring a passenger, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Just before 3 a.m. Friday, the man was headed west on state Route 142 at Olsen Road in Klickitat County, which is in the southeast area of the state along the Columbia River. Goldendale is the county seat.

Memphis Police Department officer shoots, kills man accused of gas station stabbing

A Memphis police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed someone at a gas station, the Memphis Police Department confirmed June 23. Early on June 23, an officer responded to a call at a gas station at 4260 Winchester Rd., where a man had been stabbed. The officer found a man armed with 'an edged weapon on scene,' a statement from MPD said. 'As the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, the man attempted to stab the officer,' the statement said. 'The officer discharged his weapon, striking the subject. The officer immediately rendered aid and requested assistance from the Memphis Fire Department.' Kim Wheeler, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation public affairs officer, said during a press conference that the man was initially standing outside the building before retreating inside. When the officer followed the man inside, the individual "refused to surrender," and advanced on the officer with a screw driver. The officer was struck by the screw driver in his protective vest, and the officer fired his weapon in response. The man was taken to the hospital and later died. Wheeler said the investigation is ongoing and could not comment on the relationship between the suspect and the other man inside the gas station who was stabbed. The other man who was stabbed was released from the hospital after being treated for non-critical injuries. This is a developing story and will be updated. South Memphis climbing gym Memphis Rox to close after shooting kills employee

Memphis Rox, a climbing gym and community center in South Memphis, will be temporarily closed after one of their employees was killed in a shooting on June 29. 'Tonight, we lost one of our most beloved Memphis Rox team members to gun violence,' the gym wrote in a social media post. 'We will close our doors this week, beginning Monday, June 30, as we process our grief.' Officers responded to a shooting inside the gym, located at 879 E. McLemore, at 4:13 p.m. June 29, a spokesperson for the Memphis Police Department said. One man was pronounced dead on the scene and another person was taken to the hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. A third individual was detained, MPD said. MPD said it's likely the people involved in the shooting knew each other. MPD encourages anyone with information on the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
