Lt Gen Ghani quits as Pakistan Water Authority head amid IWT rift
Sajjad Ghani
(Retd.), has resigned his post. People in the know told ET that Ghani's exit followed differences between the civilian administration and the military over the
Indus Water Treaty
(IWT).
According to the people cited earlier, differences have also emerged within both the WAPDA and Pakistan's ministry of water resources, which created conditions for Ghani's resignation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has forwarded the matter to the cabinet division for the approval of Ghani's resignation, they said.

Pakistan's civil administration has been blaming the army's top brass for creating conditions that led India to put the IWT in abeyance, people aware of the matter told ET, adding that the civilian administration has also blamed the army for the brewing crisis.
Ghani, an ethnic Kashmiri, was appointed WAPDA chairperson in August 2022. He is the son of actor Ahmed Taha Ghani. He was GOC 19 DIV (Jhelum) in the Pakistan army and later moved to HQ of Northern Swat in 2009. There are allegations of corruption against Ghani when he was in Swat. Later, he headed 5 Corps Karachi (2013 - 2015) of the Pakistan Army. As Corps Commander, he oversaw operational preparedness in southern Pakistan. He retired from military service in 2016.

Ghani was also appointed to the board of directors of Kot Addu Power Company (KAPCO) on August 17, 2022.
The IWT was suspended by New Delhi after India-Pakistan ties deteriorated sharply following the April 22 terror attack in
Pahalgam
. New Delhi has asserted that IWT will remain in abeyance until Islamabad "credibly and irrevocably" abjures support to cross-border terrorism as "water and blood" cannot flow together.

Elon Musk-owned X has restored access to Reuters' official account in India, a day after it had been blocked due to a legal request. The official said they were working with X to resolve the issue. Another account, @ReutersWorld, which was also blocked in India, was restored later Sunday night. Announcing that the ban has now been lifted, Reuters quoted an email from X which said 'At this time, we are no longer withholding access in INDIA to your account'. Why Reuters account was banned in India Official sources told news agency PTI that a request to block Reuters' account was made during Operation Sindoor . The microblogging platform seems to have now acted on that request and blocking Reuters' account in the country. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Serbia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House Search Now Undo In an earlier email dated May 16, X had told Reuters: 'It is our policy to notify account holders if we receive a legal request from an authorized entity (such as law enforcement or a government agency) to remove content from their account.' ‘Elon has gone too far': Former DOGE adviser asks Tesla Board to confront Musk over political party plans
James Fishback , a former adviser to the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ), has written a scathing open letter to Tesla's board of directors, calling on them to immediately meet with Elon Musk and seek clarity over his political ambitions . The move comes days after Musk announced the formation of a new national political party — the America Party — which Fishback argues is incompatible with Musk's duties as Tesla CEO. Fishback's concerns were outlined in a detailed letter addressed to Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm and publicly shared on social media. He also announced that his investment firm, Azoria Partners , has postponed the launch of its Azoria Tesla Convexity ETF in response to Musk's political foray. 'Elon has gone too far,' Fishback wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! This creates a conflict with his full-time responsibilities as CEO of Tesla. It diverts his focus and energy away from Tesla's employees and shareholders.' — j_fishback (@j_fishback) Live Events 'Not aligned with Tesla's mission' Fishback, whose firm had planned to list an exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused solely on Tesla shares and options next week, said the political move risks shareholder confidence . He referenced Musk's earlier decision in May to step back from DOGE — a federal role he held under Donald Trump's administration — and said investors had welcomed the renewed focus on Tesla. 'In May, when Elon stepped back from his work at DOGE and returned his attention to Tesla, we were encouraged. With Elon fully engaged, he gave shareholders renewed confidence in Tesla's future. Elon's announcement today undermines that confidence.' He added that, unlike Musk's other ventures — such as SpaceX or xAI — which align with Tesla's ambitions in AI and automation, a political party 'not only fails to complement Tesla's mission—it actively undermines it.' In the letter, Fishback urged the Tesla board to evaluate whether Musk's political activities are 'compatible with his full-time obligations to Tesla as CEO.' He concluded by saying, 'I remain hopeful that Elon will return his full attention to Tesla. If not, I trust the Board will take appropriate action.' US Treasury Secretary adds to concerns US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also weighed in on Musk's announcement, suggesting the billionaire entrepreneur should focus on his business ventures. When asked by CNN if Musk's political entry was a concern for the Trump administration, Bessent said: 'I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone.' 'So I imagine that those boards of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities,' Bessent added. Musk's declaration about the America Party came shortly after he ran a poll on X, where a majority of his followers supported the idea. His message accompanying the poll read: 'Today the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.' The Tesla board has not yet issued a response to Fishback's letter.

Russia's Kosmos 2558 carried out a secretaive and dangerous military operation in space when US was busy bombing Iran
In the last week of June 2025, the United States of America was dealing with the aftermath of bombing Iran's nuclear sites while several hundreds of kilometers up in the space, Russia was busy targeting spy satellites of its adversaries. As the Israel-Iran conflict took a dangerous turn on June 22 with US President Donald Trump sending in B-2 Spirit stealth bombers to drop the GBU-57 Massive Ordinance Penetrator bunker busters, Russian President Vladimir Putin was playing a diffent ball game, and probably testing an anti-satellite weapon. A small mysterious object, probably a spy satellite with the capability to knock down other satellites, lauched by Russia's Kosmos (Cosmos) 2558 was detected on June 26, just four days after the American bombers dropped bunker busters on Iran. The smaller satellite deployed by Russia's Kosmos 2558 is being called "2025-089C" or "Object C". It is believed to be capable of anti-satellite (ASAT) warfare. The Russians can use it to destroy other satellites and render their enemy blind in space. Launched on August 1, 2002, on a Soyuz-2-1v Volga rocket from Plesetsk cosmodrome, the Kosmos 2558 satellite's mission is unknown. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo But defence experts claim it is "satellite inspector", meaning it has been sent to spy on other satellites. These nesting satellites like Kosmos 2558 carry smaller and armed satellites inside them and can deploy them as per a pre-programed schedule or when they are signalled to do so from ground control. With space becoming increasingly militarized, the US, Russia and China along with a few other countries have been deplying spy satellites at a rapid pace. Some of the satellites are also likley to have offensive capabilities and can be used to either "kill" other space-based assets or even those on the ground. Even the USA 326, launched of February 2, 2022, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base, has a classified mission designed to help the US military carry out its operations.
