Uttarakhand CM Dhami welcomes newly elected BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt
Chief Minister Dhami congratulated Bhatt and extended best wishes for his second term as the state BJP chief. State General Secretary (Organisation) Ajaey Kumar was also present on the occasion.
Earlier on July 1, Mahendra Bhatt expressed gratitude to the central BJP leadership and Chief Minister Dhami upon being re-elected as Uttarakhand BJP president.
Speaking to ANI, Mahendra Bhatt emphasised that the party's focus will be on winning the upcoming Panchayat elections and State Assembly polls.
Bhatt has been serving as the state BJP president since July 30, 2022. His re-election marks his second consecutive term in the role.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami virtually addressed the Shrimad Bhagwat Saptaah Gyan Yagna-Shrimad Bhagwat Katha, organised by the Jagdish Swaroop Vidyanand Ashram Trust at Bhimgoda, Haridwar, from his residence on Tuesday.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that both the congregation of saints and Hari Katha are rare and both are obtained only by good fortune.
'Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran is not an ordinary text but is the embodiment of the divine words of Shri Krishna himself. In this, an excellent description of the four purusharthas of devotion, knowledge, detachment and religion is found,' he said.
CM Dhami said that in today's era, when people are mentally and spiritually disturbed in the race for materialism, at such a time, listening to the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha shows us the path to inner peace, solutions, and self-realisation.
Meanwhile, on June 30, Dhami participated in the Space Technology and Applications Conference 2025. The event focused on the role of Himalayan states in building a Developed India by 2047. ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan was present as the Chief Guest.
Welcoming scientists and participants from across the country, the Chief Minister said that this conference will be a milestone in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047. (ANI)

He also stated that the Goa government is regularly monitoring lodgings offered on online travel agency (OTA) platforms to ensure they are legally registered with authorities. His statement came when BJP MLA Michael Lobo raised the matter in the House, claiming that homestays functioning in residential communities are causing difficulty for locals by attracting disruptive tourists. He said, 'The government has ensured all inventory of hotel rooms, guesthouses and other stays linked with OTA platforms are registered with the tourism department.' 'Many second homes and residential buildings are being misused for tourist stays without informing the authorities. The people who come to these second homes and operate as tourist accommodations often do so without proper registration,' he added. 'The Goa government will work towards finding a sustainable solution that protects the interests of both residents and the tourism sector,' he assured the assembly. Later, addressing the reporters, Khaunte stated that the Goa government has updated its Homestay Policy to address critical difficulties confronting local people working in the hospitality business in the coastal state's rural regions. A direct grant of Rs 2 lakh will now be provided to eligible applicants to establish homestays, replacing the previous reimbursement-based model that posed financial challenges for many rural households, he said. 'The original policy required beneficiaries to invest first and claim the amount later, which was not practical for women in rural households,' he told reporters on the margins of the state assembly's ongoing monsoon session. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Based on their feedback, we have made the necessary changes to ensure the policy is inclusive, accessible and truly empowering,' says Khaunte. The updated legislation would apply to homestays with one to six lettable rooms within the owner's property, particularly in rural regions, according to the ministry. 'While the registration is permitted across Goa, incentives will be limited to non-coastal, non-urban zones to ensure the policy's rural focus is preserved,' added the official. Khaunte stated that the project is profoundly founded in women's empowerment, since homestays would be administered mostly by household women. 'This is not just about adding inventory to our tourism ecosystem, it's about creating livelihood opportunities, preserving cultural heritage, and giving rural women a leadership role in community-based tourism,' he said. The tourist department will launch the application procedure for taking advantage of this program once the current assembly session ends on August 8, he added. 100 homestays will be supported under the scheme in the initial phase, the minister said. Female security, CCTV surveillance: How Delhi govt is making night shifts safer for women
The Delhi government has cleared a proposal allowing women to work night shifts in shops and commercial establishments, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta emphasised that robust safeguards will be put in place to ensure the safety and welfare of women working during night hours.(ANI) The move aims at increasing women's participation in the workforce and transforming Delhi into a round-the-clock business hub, she said. Calling it a "historic decision", Gupta said the step marks a significant push towards women's economic empowerment and self-reliance. She also emphasised that robust safeguards will be put in place to ensure the safety and welfare of women working during night hours. "Delhi will now join the list of states like Haryana, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where women are permitted to work in night shifts," the chief minister said. "This policy is not just about extending work hours but it is a statement of our intent to create a safer, more inclusive working environment for women in the national capital," Gupta said. Under the proposed framework, employers will be required to obtain written consent from female employees before assigning night shifts, according to a statement. Establishments must provide transport facilities, CCTV surveillance, female security staff and all basic amenities including toilets, restrooms and lockers, it said. Formation of Internal Complaints Committees, as mandated by the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, will also be compulsory, the statement further said. It also mentioned that the decision involves amendments to the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954, which currently restricts women from working between 9 pm and 7 am in summer and between 8 pm and 8 am in winter. Once cleared by the Lieutenant Governor, the exemptions will formally allow women to work round the clock, it added. As per the statement, to ensure fair treatment of night shift workers, employers must also ensure electronic wage transfers, statutory benefits such as ESI, PF and bonuses, along with weekly offs and overtime pay. "This step will make Delhi a more business-friendly destination while reinforcing our commitment to gender parity at the workplace," the chief minister added.

Govt collected Rs 22.21 lakh crore cess during FY2020-25
The government has transferred Rs 24.29 lakh crore cess proceeds to various designated reserve funds during 2019-20 to 2024-25 as against total collection of about Rs 22.21 lakh crore, the finance ministry informed parliament on Tuesday. Responding to a question by Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev, Minister of state for Finance Pankaj Choudhary told Rajya Sabha that the proceeds of such surcharge and cess go towards meeting certain specific needs such as financing of centrally sponsored schemes. The minister did not explain the excess utilisation of taxes over total collection. However, economists said that the same could be due to borrowings by the central government to compensate the states for losses due to implementation of GST. 'The benefits of such expenditure also percolate to the states,' said the minister to a question if the government is considering including them in the divisible pool of taxes shared with the states. Article 270 of the Indian Constitution excludes the surcharge on taxes and duties and any cess levied for specific purposes under any law made by Parliament from the distribution between the Union and states. The minister tabled a chart in parliament showing various cess and surcharge collected from 2020-21 till 2024-25, and the estimated collection for 2025-26. From 2020-21 to 2024-25, the total cess and surcharge collected was Rs 19.4 lakh crore, a third of which has been collected through GST compensation cess. Road and infra cess, which also includes additional duty of excise on petrol and diesel (which were known as road cess before introduction of road and infrastructure cess), accounted for 30% of the total collection of cess and surcharge, health and education cess, and agri infra development cess accounted for 16% each. Cess and surcharge collected through corporate and income tax accounted for Rs 4 lakh crore during 2020-21 to 2024-25.
