Sam Kerr's teaser sends fans wild despite sad omission as Matildas favourite returns

Yahoo21-06-2025
Sam Kerr appears to be nearing a return after sharing footage of her back in training despite being left out of Joe Montemurro's Matildas squad for his first-game in charge. There is plenty of excitement around the Matildas with new coach Montemurro naming a large 33-strong squad for games against Slovenia and Panama.
Interestingly, 14 A-League Women players joined the squad but Women's Super League stars and current captain Steph Catley, forward Caitlin Foord and midfielder Katrina Gorry will not feature in the four-game window having taken leave after a long season.
However, Kerr was once again among the absentees having suffered setback during her ACL rehab the other week. Kerr has not played football in more than 16 months after tearing her ACL during training for her club side Chelsea.
And earlier this month, it was revealed Kerr underwent surgery on a separate injury. Little is known about her recovery timeline, with Kerr and partner Kristie Mews recently taking a break and holidaying in the off-season.
However, the Matildas superstar handed fans an update having posted a photo of her back training and running with Chelsea during training. Although she was once again excluded from the Matildas squad with fans increasingly interested over when she will make a comeback.
The Matildas superstar has been undergoing her recovery and was a hope to line-up for Chelsea, before their record breaking Women's Super League season came to an end. Although this didn't come to fruition with the plan for Kerr to remain in England and continue her recovery with Chelsea.

While Kerr remains out, Mackenzie Arnold and Hayley Raso both return from injury. The Tottenham winger was missed by the Matildas in recent games with her creativity a major loss for the side. Montemurro is looking to improve the Matildas and find some results with Australia's national women's team dropping to their equal-worst position on the FIFA rankings. The World No.16 side has struggled in the last 12 months having been knocked out in a disastrous Olympics and SheBelieves Cup campaign.
"When you have this amount of time, you can start to infiltrate some good ideas and make a statement in terms of the way we want to play," Montemurro said. "We still want to win football matches. We still want to show you who we are as a footballing nation. But more importantly, to really instil some identity, and really instil some belief in this team that you know going forward."

Luis Díaz Leaves Incredible Liverpool Legacy Before Bayern Move

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - MAY 25:Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez of Liverpool celebrate with Premier League ... (Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images) Bayern Munich has agreed to sign Luis Díaz from Liverpool for an $88.1 million fee. The Colombian winger leaves Anfield with a Premier League medal and his head held high. Díaz Dazzled Liverpool Díaz dazzled from the very beginning in a Liverpool shirt. The Colombian caught the attention with sensational performances on the international stage and in the Portuguese League with FC Porto. Then, at Anfield, he took his status to the next level. Not long after he arrived in England, Díaz helped Liverpool to a domestic cup double, and his performance in the League Cup final against Chelsea in particular helped put his name in lights. A 'Dennis Bergkamp style' spin in that game left Chelsea defender Reece James for dead and made the whole of Wembley stadium gasp in awe. Fans could clearly see the Latin flair everyone talked about. The winger also racked up a tally of 41 goals and 16 assists in 148 appearances for the Merseyside club. Liverpool Legacy Certified Luis Díaz won five trophies for Liverpool, including the 2024/25 Premier League title. The 20th league title in the club's history equalled Manchester United's record and marked the first time in over 30 years that Liverpool fans could celebrate a title inside the stadium. (Photo by) Díaz's 2024/25 campaign was his most prolific in a Liverpool shirt. The Colombian winger played on the left wing and as a central forward, often coming off the bench. Yet, he scored 17 times and made 5 assists over the year. He was a key figure in Liverpool's title win. Beyond the trophies, goals, and assists, Luis Díaz became a fan favourite for his flair on the ball, tireless work rate, and commitment off it. Díaz's attitude was exceptional, and at times what he lacked in front of goal he more than made up for with his pressing and defensive work. Díaz was also menacing on the counter attack and incredibly unselfish. Luis Díaz's bond with the club deepened after his father was kidnapped in Colombia for 12 days in late 2023. The whole Liverpool community rallied around the player and his family, and since his father's release, he has regularly been seen wearing his son's shirt in the crowd alongside Liverpool fans. Liverpool fans also created a popular anthem just for Díaz with reference to his home town of Barrancas in northern Colombia. (Photo by) A Hero In Colombia Díaz is about to become one of the most expensive Colombian signings in history, and at 28 years of age he has plenty of time to write another incredible chapter in his career at Bayern Munich. Díaz is expected to win domestic titles in Germany, and perhaps he can go one better than his Champions League final defeat with Liverpool in 2022. Díaz also has the FIFA 2026 World Cup in his sights. Colombia is on the cusp of qualifying for what could be Díaz's first World Cup appearance. This Colombia side has the potential to challenge the world's top teams at the tournament. Díaz leaves a lasting legacy at one major European club—and now, he has the chance to build another at Bayern and elevate Colombia at the 2026 World Cup. It's going to be a huge 2025/26 season for the South American sensation. BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA - JUNE 10: Luis Diaz of Colombia celebrates with teammates James Rodriguez ... Cristiano Ronaldo asks Al-Nassr management to sign a new star from Chelsea.

After Joao Felix, another Chelsea star is close to joining Saudi club Al-Nassr. Getty Images Many Al-Nassr fans were delighted with the news circulating in the media that Al-Nassr had signed a distinguished Portuguese player, the former Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, and Chelsea player. The club signed the player for 50 million euros. These figures indicate that Chelsea did not lose anything from the deal, but rather received the exact same amount they paid to acquire the player's services from Atletico Madrid, which is exactly 50 million euros. After Felix, Cristiano Ronaldo wants Al-Nassr to sign another player The notion of Chelsea considering Marc Cucurella's departure should be immediately dismissed - the Spanish defender currently stands among football's elite left-backs, if not at the very pinnacle. His Stamford Bridge career began unconvincingly, with many quick to label him an expensive misfire, but his extraordinary transformation over the past eighteen months warrants far greater recognition than it has received. At barely twenty-seven years old, with his career hitting unprecedented heights for both club and country, this represents the absolute zenith of Cucurella's professional journey. Abandoning European football at this critical juncture would make little sense for a player performing at his absolute peak. Every aspect of his game has matured to world-class standards, making this precisely the wrong moment for Chelsea to contemplate his exit, regardless of potential offers.

Seven players Chelsea can still sell following Joao Felix transfer

Chelsea are, once again, looking to sell several first-team players in the summer transfer window to trim the fat on their bloated squad. Joao Felix is the latest to leave Stamford Bridge, joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr for an initial £26.2m (€30m) fee and £17.5m (€20m) in potential add-ons. The Blues spend a lot of silly money on new signings, but they have also become adept at shifting unwanted players in recent years. This summer they have managed to raise £135.7m from sales, with their net spend coming to £82.3m. Still, Chelsea have 44 players in their senior squad and can only register 25 for the Premier League next season (although under-21 footballers are not included on the squad lists). Nine players have already departed, but it's clear that even more need to leave before the 2025/26 campaign kicks off. Here are some of the men on the fringe who have been linked with a move away this summer. Six players Chelsea can still sell following Joao Felix transfer Christopher Nkunku One of the more disappointing Chelsea signings in recent years, Christopher Nkunku's time at the club has been hampered by injury issues and poor form. The France international does not lack for suitors, though, with both Bayern Munich and Manchester United linked with a move since January. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United are also said to be interested, with the west London prepared to sell him for a little over £43m. Nicolas Jackson A lack of a clinical edge could cost Nicolas Jackson his Chelsea career. The Senegal striker has shown glimpses of being a top player, but has too often fluffed his lines in front of goal. The 24-year-old would make a good signing for a Premier League club, though, with both Manchester United and Newcastle linked with a move, although the Red Devils have apparently moved onto other targets. Read – Raheem Sterling We've rarely seen a fall from grace as steep as Raheem Sterling's. A few short years ago he was considered one of the Premier League's elite attackers at Manchester City, but now he's a shell of his former self at just 30 years of age. An underwhelming loan spell at Arsenal last season will not have inspired many clubs to take a punt on his this year, although Fulham are reportedly interested in the winger. Read – Ben Chilwell The ostracisation of Ben Chilwell is an odd one, as he has always played quite well for Chelsea. Regardless, the left-back found himself surplus to requirements under Enzo Maresca and spent the second half of last season on loan with Borussia Dortmund. After failing to get a move away last summer amid links with Manchester United, he made one appearance in the League Cup before joining Crystal Palace on a half-season long loan, helping the club win the FA Cup in May. A return to Selhurst Park seems unlikely after the Eagles bought Borna Sosa from Ajax, so who know where he will end up. Read – Carney Chukwuemeka Three years after Chelsea signed him from Aston Villa, Carney Chukwuemeka looks set to depart. Once considered a hot prospect, we have seen very little from the attacking midfielder at Stamford Bridge. He made just five appearances, none in the Premier League, last season before joining Borussia Dortmund on a half-season long loan RB Leipzig are reportedly in talks about a potential deal, with Xavi Simons possibly going in the other direction. Read – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall When Chelsea bought Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City last summer, it was clearly a new manager signing. And yet, Maresca barely used the midfielder in his debut campaign. It still feels very odd that Conor Gallagher was replaced with Dewsbury-Hall and would not be the least bit surprising if the 26-year-old leaves. Fulham have been linked with a possible move. Renato Veiga Despite barely playing for Chelsea since joining from Basel for £12m last year, Renato Veiga could fetch the club a tidy profit. The striker made 18 appearances in all competitions, most of them in cup competitions, before being loaned out to Juventus in January. Now Atletico Madrid are reportedly in for him, with the Blues slapping a £34.6m price tag on the Portuguese player. Read – See Also – Follow The Football Faithful on Social Media: | | | |
