DALLAS — Just hours before the Dallas Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, franchise cornerstone Kyrie Irving made a defining statement of loyalty and belief.

The nine-time NBA All-Star declined his $43 million player option for next season and instead agreed to a three-year, $119 million contract extension with Dallas ... and now that agreement is officially signed.

League sources told DallasBasketball.com that the new deal's Year 1 salary allows the Mavericks to access the $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception — an essential tool as the front office eyes lead guard options to bridge the gap until Irving's expected return in January 2026.
Even after his injury-shortened season, Irving remains the heart of this retooled Mavericks roster. Before going down on March 3 against Sacramento, he was enjoying a stellar campaign, averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 40.1% from deep. That production, coupled with his veteran presence in the locker room, earned him his ninth All-Star nod and solidified him as the team's emotional and tactical leader.

Red Sox hit 3 home runs, power past Rockies 9-3 to post 4th straight victory
BOSTON (AP) — Roman Anthony hit a two-run home run, Ceddanne Rafaela homered for the third straight game and the Boston Red beat the the Colorado Rockies 9-3 on Monday night. Boston rookie Richard Fitts (1-3) allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out six over 5 2/3 innings to notch his first major league victory. Romy Gonzalez added a solo homer, and Abraham Toro had a two-run double to help Boston post its fourth straight win and seventh in nine games. Rockies starter Austin Gomber (0-2) exited after 4 2/3 innings, yielding five runs and seven hits, including Anthony's homer. Colorado's first run of the game was set up by a throwing error on Boston shortstop Trevor Story. In the sixth inning, the Rockies pulled to 5-3 on a fielder's choice RBI by Michael Toglia and RBI single by Ryan McMahon.
