Orbán declares victory for Hungary's stance in NATO
In an interview with TV2 , Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said, 'At last there's somewhere, NATO, where we have won.'
PM Orbán said Hungary had turned its 'isolated, losing position' into the 'stronger, majority position', alongside the US, Turkey, and Slovakia, 'a serious group'.
During the recent NATO summit, the US president made clear 'that he is pro-peace', the prime minister said. NATO, he added, was not formed to wage war but to defend and establish peace, adding that Ukraine must not become a member of the alliance as there was 'no question of NATO getting involved' in the Ukraine-Russia war.
Instead, the NATO alliance, PM Orbán said, must focus on making itself stronger and 'our own lives safer'.
Meanwhile, referring to Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu, the prime minister noted Hungary had produced two Nobel laureates and an astronaut in the past two years. 'Hungary's reputation abroad is higher today than it was before', owing to 'these excellent people', he said.

FM: Hungarian government will continue to fight against the Zelensky plan
"We will not allow Brussels to double Hungarian families' utility costs at the behest and lobbying of President Zelensky," the foreign minister said. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said in Budapest on Wednesday that the Hungarian government will continue to fight against the 'plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which would put Hungary's energy security at serious risk and multiply the cost of utility bills.' Speaking on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, Minister Szijjártó said the government assessed the events of the European Union summits last week and discussed the proposal on banning the procurement of cheap Russian oil and gas, 'which would put central European countries, Hungary among them, into an extremely difficult situation'. 'It is clear that this plan was hatched in Brussels … as a result of Ukrainian lobbying. It is also clear that Brussels and Kyiv are clear-eyed about the security risk to supplies and the dramatic utility price increases that a forced Zelensky plan would cause in Hungary,' he said, according to a ministry statement. As a result of the 'plan', Hungary would only receive crude oil through one pipeline, and it would be cut off from 26 billion cubic meters of gas in total, he said. 'They are talking about sovereignty, new resources, competitiveness and supply security while at the same time gravely violating our homeland's sovereignty…' he said. 'At the cabinet meeting, we made it clear that Hungary will continue to fight against the Zelensky plan. The government will continue to take a stand to stop Brussels from undermining … Hungary's energy security, and will protect the lowest utility prices in Europe,' he said. 'We will not allow Brussels to double Hungarian families' utility costs at the behest and lobbying of President Zelensky. It will be a tough battle; it will be tabled at the next meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, too. We will fight this fight and protect Hungarian people, families and the Hungarian economy,' Minister Szijjártó said.

Government will continue to provide water to farmers free of charge
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Wednesday that the government will continue to provide water to farmers free of charge, 'whatever Brussels thinks about that'. Posting a photo of the meeting on Facebook, PM Orbán said the government had started preparations for a hot summer ahead of time. The operative body for drought prevention was set up in May, and the government heard its report earlier on Wednesday. Some 1,000 employees used the rainy May to preserve 'water equivalent to one-third of Lake Balaton so far' and to channel it to drought-hit areas, he said. Orbán: It is never too late for peace
Marking a year since his visit to Kyiv, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a post on Facebook on Wednesday: 'It is never too late for peace.' The prime minister said that on this day last year, he had 'long talks concerning opportunities for a ceasefire and peace' with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. 'I warned him that time was not on his side. I warned him that Russia was prepared for a long war and the US was in for a great change, while Europe was on the verge of exhaustion,' PM Orbán said in his post. 'Zelensky did not listen. With the self-assurance of a man of theatre, he argued for continuing the war,' PM Orbán said. 'The war is still going on, Europe is exhausted, and weapons shipments from the US are waning. Ukrainians have been going through the monstrosities of the war every day. This is no drama or film. This is hard-and-fast reality,' the prime minister said. 'Hungary has stayed on the side of peace, and it is still not too late for President Zelensky to join,' PM Orbán said.
