Knicks get Jay Wright clarity in their head coach search

New York Post07-06-2025
The Nova Knicks won't get their old coach behind the bench in New York.
Jay Wright is not a candidate to fill the Knicks' head coaching vacancy, The Post's Stefan Bondy reported Saturday.
President Leon Rose understands that Wright, who last coached in 2022 at Villanova, is happy in retirement.

That leaves one name off the list for the Knicks as they seek to replace Tom Thibodeau after his firing earlier this week.
After the news about Wright broke, Josh Hart, a former Wildcat, wrote on X: 'Man thank you. Stay retired!' with a laughing emoji before tagging Wright's account.

One candidate the Knicks are considering is Jason Kidd, insider Marc Stein reported Friday.
Kidd, an ex-Net and Knick, is under contract as head coach of the Mavericks, a team he led to the NBA Finals in 2024.

Tyrese Haliburton's 1-Word Reaction to Fever Winning Commissioner's Cup

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Indiana Pacers star point guard Tyrese Haliburton has been radio silent since going down with a torn Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. That changed on Tuesday night when he took to social media to send a message to the Indiana Fever. Despite not having Caitlin Clark on the floor, the Fever were able to take care of business and defeat the Minnesota Lynx by a final score of 74-59. Without Clark playing, Indiana saw Natasha Howard step up in a huge way. She scored 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the win. Sophie Cunningham came off the bench to score 13, while both Aari McDonald and Kelsey Mitchell chipped in 12 apiece. It was short and sweet. "LFG," Haliburton posted while tagging Indiana. While the win doesn't mean a whole lot in the big picture of competing for a championship, the Fever will now split a $500,000 prize pool. The win could also be a big momentum swing for an Indiana team that has struggled with consistency and injuries. Right now, the Fever hold an 8-8 record. That is far from the expectations that had bene put in place for the team at the start of the season. Entering the 2025 campaign, Indiana was expected to be a WNBA championship contender. Clark was expected to be a top-tier MVP candidate. He is expected the miss the entire 2025-26 season barring an unforeseen early return. His injury has already caused change for Indiana, as the team opted to not go into the luxury tax to re-sign Myles Turner. It's a rough turn of events for a Pacers team that appeared to be opening a championship window for at least the next year or two. Indianapolis is a city that has been through a lot recently from a basketball perspective. Seeing the Fever win the Commissioner's Cup may not be a WNBA championship, but it's something for the city to celebrate nonetheless. Popular unicycle performer Red Panda is injured during halftime of a WNBA game

MINNEAPOLIS — The popular halftime show performer who goes by Red Panda fell off her unicycle and crashed to the court during intermission of the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final between the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night, unable to finish her show. There was no immediate word on the extent of her injuries. She appeared to be grabbing her left wrist after the fall — she fell forward off the unicycle onto the court — and was helped off the floor by wheelchair. Red Panda, whose name is Rong Niu, is a Chinese American woman who comes from a family of performing acrobats. Her act is composed of her riding on her custom-built unicycle, which stretches about 8 feet above the court, and balancing custom-made bowls on her lower leg before flipping them atop her head. She has performed at countless basketball games, including Game 5 of the NBA Finals last month in Oklahoma City.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's Immediate Reaction to Bucks' Damian Lillard Decision Grabs Attention

Giannis Antetokounmpo's Immediate Reaction to Bucks' Damian Lillard Decision Grabs Attention originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Milwaukee Bucks entered free agency under significant pressure to deliver a summer that would satisfy their global superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo — especially amid reports that he's been considering his future, including the possibility of a trade. Advertisement They kicked things off by re-signing key contributors such as Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., and Taurean Prince. But the Bucks made their biggest move on Tuesday, signing former Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million deal — a significant addition to the roster. Moments later, however, came an unexpected twist. In order to afford Turner's contract, the Bucks made the surprising decision to waive-and-stretch Damian Lillard. The move means Lillard will be released, with the remainder of his contract — originally worth far more — now spread out at $22 million over the next five years. The decision has sparked widespread reaction, particularly surrounding how Antetokounmpo would respond. According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the two-time MVP is reportedly "not pleased" with the team's choice to move on from Lillard, who had suffered a season-ending torn Achilles during the Bucks' playoff series against the Pacers. Lillard is expected to miss the entire 2025–26 season, a factor that clearly influenced the Bucks' decision to stretch his contract. Advertisement The move gives Milwaukee added financial flexibility to make roster upgrades in an effort to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo happy — especially in an Eastern Conference that suddenly feels wide open following major injuries to stars Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton, both of whom are expected to miss the entire season.
