PN urged to clarify who is its information chief

The lack of an announcement about the positions of Ahmad Faizal Azumu (left) and Radzi Jidin could create the wrong impression, according to a PN leader.
PETALING JAYA : Perikatan Nasional leaders have been urged to make official announcements of changes in important positions, following questions raised about the status of Ahmad Faizal Azumu as PN information chief.
The leader of a PN component party claimed that Radzi Jidin had been appointed to replace Faizal before the Ayer Kuning by-election last month, but no official announcement had been made so far.
The source expressed disappointment, saying the absence of an official announcement gave the public the perception that there were internal conflicts within the coalition.
'There really is no issue or conflict among ourselves in the leadership. But when there's no official announcement, it makes us look bad and allows people to make all sorts of assumptions,' the leader told FMT.
In a Facebook post around midnight, Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said Radzi had chaired a meeting in his capacity as PN's information chief.
In December, Faizal, commonly known as Peja, was named PN's information chief, taking over from Azmin Ali, who was made secretary-general. Radzi was also appointed to the PN Supreme Council.
Both Radzi and Faizal are Bersatu vice-presidents.

140 contingents to enliven National Day parade in Sabah

Tun Musa (centre), Masidi (fourth left) and others during the courtesy call. – Information Department photo KOTA KINABALU (Aug 5): An estimated 140 parade contingents are set to enliven the 2025 Sabah National Day celebrations. State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun stated that the contingents comprise government agencies, schools, voluntary organizations and uniformed units. 'What makes this year special is that, for the first time, the celebrations will be attended by Head of State Tun Musa Aman, adding greater significance to the event. 'Tun Musa is expected to arrive at 7:30am, so we anticipate official events will take place between 7:30am and 10:30am. 'We also expect public attendance to mirror last year's, where strategic spots along the parade route will be filled early. 'Therefore, I urge all Sabahans to come together in celebrating and attending the event on August 31 at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, to demonstrate our love for our nation and for Sabah,' he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Tun Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Masidi, who is also the chairman of the 2025 Sabah National Day Main Committee, said this year's theme, 'Malaysia Madani: People Embraced' (Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni), resonates deeply, especially with leaders. 'This theme is profoundly relevant, particularly as a call to leaders and those entrusted with positions of authority to always be on the ground, engaging with and caring for the people. 'Thus, this theme urges leaders to be present among the people, show compassion, and visibly demonstrate their presence as the pillars upon whom the people rely to realize their aspirations,' he added. He also advised the public to continue flying the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah state flag as symbols of love for Malaysia and the state of Sabah. Also present were Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tan Lee Fatt and Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.

Malaysia mulls unexplained wealth law to trace elites' riches, but warns of ‘unintended consequences'

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — The government is not yet ready to implement the Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO), despite having received proposals for its introduction, says Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He said the government would first study related issues before any implementation. 'We will look at good ideas before execution, and I have received suggestions to explore. We will study the matter first and understand the issues involved because we do not want unintended consequences,' he said. He told reporters this after officiating the 2025 National Tax Conference here today. Previously, former Klang MP Charles Santiago was reported as saying that Malaysia needed the UWO to hold all elites accountable for the source of their wealth. Meanwhile, Amir Hamzah said the government would also examine efforts to introduce monthly pension payments as part of the initiative to improve the national remuneration system. He said a thorough study must be carried out to refine more practical implementation methods. 'The issue we see now is that when someone gains full access (to their retirement funds), many tend to spend the money quickly. So, when they reach old age, they don't have sufficient savings. 'I believe in the study, we will look at various more practical implementation methods. As previously explained, this initiative is for those newly entering the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme, not for those already in the system,' he said. According to the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) document issued by the Economy Ministry on July 31, the government will explore a new mechanism to ensure continuous post-retirement income by splitting EPF contributions into two main components, namely retirement savings and monthly pensions. — Bernama

Close to RM5bil in ‘wang ehsan' given to Terengganu and Kelantan, says PM

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the 'wang ehsan' was distributed to Terengganu and Kelantan despite no petroleum being 'won and saved' from the two states. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A total of RM4 billion in 'wang ehsan', or goodwill payment, has been distributed to Terengganu between 2023 and 2025, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said. Kelantan has received RM967 million, Anwar, who is also the finance minister said. These funds were meant to implement projects and programmes that benefit the people of the two states, he said, adding that the allocation was not distributed to other states. Anwar said this in a parliamentary reply to Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa), who wanted to know the status of the payment of petroleum royalties to the east coast states. He said the wang ehsan was distributed to Terengganu and Kelantan despite no petroleum being 'won and saved' from the two states. In March last year, Anwar said his administration allocated a total of RM1.55 billion for Terengganu's development last year, despite petroleum royalties amounting to only RM786 million. He said the development expenditure of the PAS-led state increased to RM1.59 billion this year. Anwar also said total petroleum royalties for Terengganu increased during his administration compared to when PAS and Bersatu were in the federal government, with only RM399 million recorded in 2022.
