Individuals invited to serve as ATVM facilitators
The Vijayawada Division has emerged as a frontrunner in ATVM utilisation. Presently, 72 ATVMs are operational across 29 major railway stations, supported by 94 facilitators to assist passengers. As a result of continued awareness campaigns and improved accessibility, 33 percent (78,19,581) of the total (2,41,51,165) unreserved tickets in the Division are now booked through ATVMs, said the SCR Railway, Vijayawada in a press release on Wednesday.
The passengers get many benefits with ATVMs. It reduces queues and saves time of passengers and is very convenient also. The machines support multilingual interfaces and offer quick access to general, platform, and renewal tickets.
Trained facilitators are available at key stations to assist the elderly, first-time users, and differently-abled passengers.

Gross originating revenue of SCR touches Rs 20k crore
HYDERABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) has demonstrated impressive growth over the past three years, achieving gross originating revenues of Rs 18,976 crore in 2022–23, Rs 20,339 crore in 2023–24, and Rs 20,569 crore in 2024–25. Correspondingly, freight loading rose steadily, registering 131.8 million tonnes (MT) in 2022–23, 141.1 MT in 2023–24, and peaking at 144.1 MT in 2024–25. According to SCR officials, freight revenue also saw substantial growth, with Rs 13,051 crore, Rs 13,620 crore, and Rs 13,864 crore recorded during the respective years. Passenger segment revenue surpassed Rs 5,000 crore in each of the three years, reflecting the rising demand for rail services. The zone made significant strides in network expansion by adding a total of 960 km of track through the construction of new lines, and doubling and tripling of existing ones. In engineering achievements, SCR executed key infrastructure projects, including the construction of the zone's longest rail flyover near Gudur, measuring 2.2 km, and the commissioning of its first-ever rail-under-rail structure near Kazipet as part of the Kazipet bypass project.

SCR on fast track, plan to be ready in a year
Lucknow: The development of State Capital Region (SCR) plan, modelled on the lines of Delhi-NCR, will be completed in a year with a budget of Rs 71 crore. The implementation of the plan will span over the next five years. The SCR will cover six districts — Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, and Rae Bareli. The World Bank will extend technical support to this initiative, drawing from global best practices. The proposed SCR will encompass a total area of 26,700 sq km, aiming to promote integrated development across the region. The plan focuses on strengthening high-speed inter-district connectivity, upgrading infrastructure, and promoting balanced growth. Enhanced transport networks such as expressways, ring roads, rapid rail, and the completion of missing road links will be key components. These efforts are expected to improve mobility, boost industrial and commercial growth, and create new employment opportunities. A committee meeting chaired by Keshav Varma, chairman of the high-level committee overseeing SCR, was held at the Parijat auditorium of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on Friday, where a detailed presentation on the SCR plan was made. Key officials present included principal secretary, housing and urban planning, P Guru Prasad, principal secretary, urban development, Amrit Abhijat, divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob, LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar, director, housing board, Ravi Jain, chief town planner KK Gautam, representatives from the World Bank, urban planners, and engineers. Consulting consortium comprising AECOM India Pvt Ltd and Aegis India Consulting Engineers Pvt Ltd has been selected to prepare the GIS-based regional master plan. LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar said that the consultants would prepare the plan in one year and identify project components aligned with the plan over the next five years. They will also be responsible for preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) and overseeing on-ground implementation. The World Bank team, present at the meeting, assured knowledge sharing from successful global models where similar regional planning was carried out. They also emphasised the inclusion of cultural and heritage conservation within the SCR development framework. Officials said that while the city was already relatively developed, the SCR project would ensure parallel development in surrounding districts. This would reduce migration to the capital for jobs, education, healthcare, and business. As urban amenities extend to semi-urban and rural areas, residents will benefit from improved local infrastructure, better living conditions, and enhanced livelihood opportunities.

Nadikudi–Srikalahasthi rail line set to meet '25 deadline
Vijayawada: After over 15 years of anticipation, the Nadikudi–Srikalahasthi railway line — a long-cherished dream for upland regions in Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore districts — is inching closer to reality. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The project, which was actually planned to complete by 2022 itself, got delayed due to the state govt's reluctance to contribute its share of funding. With cost overruns mounting, the railway ministry has decided to complete the project independently. The South Central Railway (SCR) recently floated tenders for a new 30.3 km stretch between Kanigiri and Pamuru in Prakasam district, estimated at 391 crore. This section is expected to be completed by December 2025, paving the way for operational rollout. The railway ministry had originally granted the project way back 2010 after the state govt (undivided AP) agreed to take 50 percent burden of the proposed cost Rs.2500 crore. However, the project got stalled after the state's bifurcation. The cash-strapped state requested the Centre to proceed alone, offering only to handle land acquisition. This left the railway authorities in limbo for years. Eventually, the ministry went ahead using central funds and completed the Nadikudi–Savalyapuram (near Vinukonda) segment (46 km), which links to the Guntur–Guntakal–Yaswanthpur (Bengaluru) main line. The commissioner of railway safety has now cleared this line for operations — providing a logistical boost for Palnadu's cement industries eyeing smoother shipments to Karnataka. Further, SCR has completed trial runs on the Savalyapuram–Kurichedu–Darsi stretch and is finalizing bridges and track-laying between Darsi and Pamuru. Over 40 bridges have been built, and gravel work has progressed up to Tiragaladinne in Pamuru mandal. Local authorities acquired nearly 2,000 acres across Kanigiri, Pamuru, Darsi, Marripudi, Podili, and Konakanamitla mandals and handed it over to railway officials. "We've begun laying tracks from Podili through Kanigiri to Pamuru and expect to finish within the next four to six months," said a senior railway official.
