UAE, Pakistan and Afghanistan to play T20 tri-series in Sharjah
Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates will participate in a tri-series of Twenty20 international matches to tune up for next month's Asia Cup followed by the World Cup next year. "The tri-series will feature teams from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the UAE from Aug.29 to Sep.7 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium," the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Friday. The T20I tournament will serve as a launching pad for the teams to prepare for the Asian Cricket Council's T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28, it added. India and Sri Lanka will co-host the Twenty20 World Cup in February-March next year. The opening match of the tri-series tournament will be played between Afghanistan and Pakistan on August 29. Each team will play the others twice, giving all sides at least four matches before the top two teams qualify for the final, scheduled on September 7. UAE, Pakistan and Afghanistan set for T20I tri-series showdown
Pakistan will face off against Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates in a T20I tri-series, starting 29 August in Sharjah later this month. The tournament will take place ahead of the Asia Cup in September, as the sub-continent teams prepare for next year's T20 World Cup. The opening fixture will see Pakistan square up against last year's T20 World Cup semi-finalists, Afghanistan. All three teams will face each other twice, with the top two sides then advancing to the final scheduled for 7 September. 31 July 2025 00:09 ISLAMABAD (dpa)Twice Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier of Germany has died in a mountaineering accident in Pakistan, her management and local officials said on Wednesday. She was was swept away in a rockfall close to the summit of the 6,069 metres Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range on Monday."Laura Dahlmeier died in a mountain accident on 28 July on Laila Peak in Pakistan's Karakoram Mountains at 5700 m due to falling rocks," a management statement Wednesday said."The rescue operation to recover the victim was unsuccessful and was discontinued on the evening of July 29," it said, adding that "it can be assumed that Laura Dahlmeier died immediately."The statement added: "It was Laura Dahlmeier's expressed and written wish that in a case like this, nobody should risk their life to rescue her. It was her wish to leave her body behind at the mountain in a case like this. This is also in line with the wishes of her relatives, who also requested that Laura's last wishes be honoured."The spokesman of the local government in Gilgit-Baltistan region, Faizullah Faraq, said the rescue team that went up to find her has seen the dead body.
