Four Moroccan Referees Named for Women's AFCON
Central referees Bouchra Karboubi and Sabah Sadir will be joined by assistant referees Fathia Jermoumi and Ihssane Nouajli in a record 46-strong officiating team, surpassing the 40 selected for the 2022 edition.
CAF's final list includes 18 referees, 18 assistant referees, and 10 VAR officials representing 30 countries. Host nation Morocco contributes the highest number of on-field officials this year.
Karboubi has already made history. Earlier this year, she became the first North African woman to officiate a men's Africa Cup of Nations match, taking charge of the Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria group game in Côte d'Ivoire. She was also selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic football games and officiated the Group C opener between Spain and Japan.
Sadir has officiated extensively in youth World Cup qualifiers and is steadily building her profile in CAF and FIFA competitions. Jermoumi and Nouajli, meanwhile, have climbed the domestic ladder to earn continental recognition.
The quartet's call-up underlines the Royal Moroccan Football Federation's growing investment in the development of female referees.
Eddy Maillet, CAF Director of Refereeing, 'Africa has made serious leaps in the development of women match officials… To fine-tune the last details, we are organising a preparation course for all the referees of the competition, starting from June 25 in Rabat.'
Morocco is hosting WAFCON for the second time running, following the successful 2022 edition that saw the Atlas Lionesses qualify for their first-ever Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
This year's matches will be held across six stadiums in five cities: Larbi Zaouli and Pere Jego stadiums in Casablanca, the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, the Honor Stadium in Oujda, and the Municipal Stadium in Berkane. Tags: Futsal WAFCONWAFCON

Hakim Ziyech Faces $720,000 Tax Debt in Turkiye After Leaving Galatasaray
Rabat – Moroccan footballer Hakim Ziyech is facing a significant tax debt in Turkiye after ending his time with Galatasaray. Turkish outlet Milliyet reported that, according to a public notice issued by Turkish authorities on June 28, Ziyech owes approximately $720,000 in unpaid taxes. The debt includes $644,000 in main tax and about $76,000 in late payment penalties, all linked to his time playing for the Istanbul-based club. Ziyech left Galatasaray during the winter transfer window for the 2023–2024 season. The Istanbul Tax Office tried to deliver the official notice directly to Ziyech, but he was not found at his registered address, added the report. Because of this, the authorities published the notice online and in four national newspapers. If Ziyech does not respond within one month, the notice will be considered officially delivered under Turkish law. Milliyet reported that Galatasaray officials explained that Ziyech had signed a contract based on a 'net salary' agreement, meaning the club was responsible for paying his taxes. As a result, Galatasaray Sportif AŞ, the club's corporate branch, is expected to cover the full amount. Ziyech, who previously played for Chelsea, had a difficult spell at Galatasaray due to injuries and limited appearances. Though he has moved on from the Turkish league, the financial matters from his time in Istanbul continue to follow him.

Ex‑Raja Casablanca President Mohamed Boudrika Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison
Rabat – A court in Casablanca sentenced former Raja Club Athletic president and parliamentarian, Mohamed Boudrika, to five years in prison today, SNRT News reported. The Casablanca Criminal Court also ordered Boudrika to pay MAD 664,000 in damages to the victims and barred him from issuing cheques for one year. Boudrika was found guilty of fraud, forgery, and issuing cheques without sufficient funds. Throughout the trial, he denied all charges, claiming that the investigating judge had relied only on the complainant's statements and had not presented hard evidence, according to reports. During the final hearing, Boudrika strongly defended himself and insisted there was no proof of wrongdoing aside from verbal allegations. In July 2024, Boudrika was arrested in Germany under an international warrant and later extradited to Morocco in April 2025, following approval from German authorities. He faced a one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of MAD 232,500 in March 2024, following a case against him in absentia for issuing bad cheques. He has been held in pretrial detention at Oukacha prison in Casablanca since April 25, 2025. Charges include issuing bad cheques, fraud, forgery, and using administrative documents illegally. Born in Casablanca, Boudrika became Raja's president twice, first in 2012-2016, then re-elected in May 2023. Under his leadership, the club won domestic titles and reached the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2013, defeating international heavyweights. He was also a member of the Moroccan parliament for the RNI party and served as head of the Mers Sultan district council. His business ventures include real estate. He briefly left office following a building collapse in 2016 and controversy over selling overpriced World Cup tickets in 2022. After Morocco reached the semifinals, controversy erupted around the allocation of free tickets meant for Moroccan fans. Instead of being distributed fairly, many tickets allegedly made their way into the hands of private individuals and were resold at inflated prices. Boudrika, then a member of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), was accused of distributing large numbers of tickets to his associates, party members, and close relatives.
