Ex‑Raja Casablanca President Mohamed Boudrika Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

Morocco World21 hours ago
Rabat – A court in Casablanca sentenced former Raja Club Athletic president and parliamentarian, Mohamed Boudrika, to five years in prison today, SNRT News reported.
The Casablanca Criminal Court also ordered Boudrika to pay MAD 664,000 in damages to the victims and barred him from issuing cheques for one year.
Boudrika was found guilty of fraud, forgery, and issuing cheques without sufficient funds. Throughout the trial, he denied all charges, claiming that the investigating judge had relied only on the complainant's statements and had not presented hard evidence, according to reports.
During the final hearing, Boudrika strongly defended himself and insisted there was no proof of wrongdoing aside from verbal allegations.
In July 2024, Boudrika was arrested in Germany under an international warrant and later extradited to Morocco in April 2025, following approval from German authorities.
He faced a one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of MAD 232,500 in March 2024, following a case against him in absentia for issuing bad cheques.
He has been held in pretrial detention at Oukacha prison in Casablanca since April 25, 2025.
Charges include issuing bad cheques, fraud, forgery, and using administrative documents illegally.
Born in Casablanca, Boudrika became Raja's president twice, first in 2012-2016, then re-elected in May 2023.
Under his leadership, the club won domestic titles and reached the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2013, defeating international heavyweights.
He was also a member of the Moroccan parliament for the RNI party and served as head of the Mers Sultan district council.
His business ventures include real estate. He briefly left office following a building collapse in 2016 and controversy over selling overpriced World Cup tickets in 2022. After Morocco reached the semifinals, controversy erupted around the allocation of free tickets meant for Moroccan fans.
Instead of being distributed fairly, many tickets allegedly made their way into the hands of private individuals and were resold at inflated prices.
Boudrika, then a member of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), was accused of distributing large numbers of tickets to his associates, party members, and close relatives.

Jorge Vilda: Morocco's Women's Team Fully Ready for WAFCON

Rabat – Jorge Vilda Rodriguez, the coach of Morocco's women's national football team, has renewed confidence in his players, noting that they are talented, motivated, and ready for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The tournament will take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26. 'The team's morale is very high, and the players are excited to begin the competition. We've prepared well for these matches, and the group is very cohesive. There's a great atmosphere within the squad,' Vilda said. The national coach acknowledged the challenges ahead as Morocco's women's team falls into Group A, which includes Senegal, Zambia, and the DRC. While conceding that the group is the toughest of the three in this WAFCON, he said he is confident that the Lionesses will deliver and receive support from a large crowd at home. He also expressed satisfaction with the current level of the team, which he says has progressed significantly as a result of consistent hard work. 'Our first match will be against Zambia, a team that has made a lot of progress in recent years and whose players compete in top leagues, such as Racheal Kundanaji, Hellen Chanda, and Barbara Banda.' 'They're tough opponents, but we have the necessary tools to counter them,' he said, noting that his squad is ready and excited to start the tournament. Team captain Ghizlane Chebbak also stressed the players' readiness for the competition, noting that the Atlas Lionesses are focused on the opening match against Zambia. 'I hope we'll be 100% ready and focused for it,' she said. Morocco's game against Zambia will take place on Saturday at 9 p.m. Moroccan time. The tournament groups are Group B with Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, and Group C with South Africa, Ghana, Mali, and Zambia. Tags: Futsal WAFCONWAFCON

Algeria's Youcef Belaïli Arrested in Paris After Mid-Flight Incident

Algerian international Youcef Belaïli has once again found himself at the centre of controversy – this time mid-air. The 33-year-old forward was arrested on Wednesday, July 2, upon landing at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport following an altercation with an Air France crew on a flight from New York. He was reportedly en route to Algeria via Paris after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup with Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis. — Moncef Ait-Kaci (@Moncefaitkaci) July 2, 2025 Footage circulating online shows French police escorting the visibly agitated player in handcuffs through the terminal. The incident, though still under investigation, has already stirred reactions across social media and Algerian media outlets. According to his father, speaking to Algerian sports daily El Heddaf , Belaïli 'committed no offence,' claiming the scuffle stemmed from a misunderstanding involving his two-year-old son's seatbelt. 'He was mistreated at the airport. It's a disgrace to treat an international player like this over a seatbelt,' he said. Belaïli, who has had stints in Ligue 1 with Angers, Brest, and Ajaccio, currently plays for Espérance de Tunis. He featured in the Club World Cup last month, where his club exited in the group stage following a final 3–0 loss to Chelsea in Philadelphia. Nayef Aguerd Leaves Real Sociedad After Impressive Spell

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd will not return to Real Sociedad after his season-long loan from West Ham expired on 30 June. The 29-year-old centre-back confirmed his departure with a farewell message on Instagram on Tuesday, thanking fans for their 'respect, affection, and love' and promising to keep supporting the club that 'left a deep mark' on him. Real Sociedad also confirmed his departure in a brief statement. Aguerd joined La Real last August and quickly became a starter in Imanol Alguacil's backline, making 36 appearances and logging 2,926 minutes across all competitions. Though discussions over a second loan took place in May, West Ham has decided to pursue a permanent transfer, setting the price at around €20 million. Aguerd is now considering offers from Marseille, Juventus, and other Champions League clubs. His short spell may not have delivered silverware, yet his calm distribution and aerial strength were vital in securing a top-six LaLiga finish. He won more than four aerial duels per game and had a success rate above 60%. On the ball, he made close to 60 passes each match, with a solid accuracy of 87.3% in La Liga last season The loan helped the Moroccan international to get back on track following injury struggles in England.
