Pakistani actor and model Humaira Asghar Ali was discovered dead in her Karachi apartment earlier this week, but investigators now believe she had died nearly nine months ago, in October 2024—her body lying undisturbed and unnoticed all this while.Police entered her apartment only after the landlord filed a formal complaint, prompting them to forcibly check on the tenant. What they found was grim: Humaira's body in an advanced stage of decomposition, a chilling state that Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed confirmed after conducting the post-mortem. According to a Geo News report, the condition of her remains painted a harrowing picture: major organs had disintegrated into a black mass, facial features were unrecognisable, and bones began to crumble upon touch. The brain matter had completely liquified, the cartilage in joints was absent, and no muscle tissue was left on many parts of the body. Yet, no fractures were detected in the bones.Dr Syed, along with SSP-South Mahzoor Ali, visited the apartment, where several clues further supported the timeline of her death. DIG-South Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that expired bread and packaged milk in the fridge were dated September 2024, while two SIM cards found in her phone had been inactive since that same month. Additionally, the Karachi Electric Supply Company had cut off power to her apartment in October 2024 over non-payment of bills.Investigators noted that the only other flat on her floor was unoccupied, which may explain why neighbours didn't detect any odour from the decomposing body. In fact, some residents had only returned in February 2025—by then, the smell had long dissipated. One balcony door was left ajar, and the water pipes had rusted, indicating long periods of inactivity.Geo News also reported that brown-coloured insects were found on her scalp, although notably, no maggots were present. Forensic experts believe these specific details could help determine the environmental conditions in which she lay for months. While DNA profiling and toxicology tests are now underway, no clear cause of death has been established due to the severe decomposition.Hailing from Lahore, Humaira began her acting career in 2015, making appearances in television shows such as Just Married, Ehsaan Faramosh, Guru, and Chal Dil Mere. Her film credits include Jalaibee (2015) and Love Vaccine (2021). She gained wider attention after participating in ARY Digital's reality show Tamasha Ghar in 2022.
