Youth Involvement In Agro Sector Signals Success Of Sejati MADANI Initiative
The Alor Gajah MP said efforts to attract this group must be continued, including convincing them that the food security sector was among the most stable.
'This is because as long as there are people, food will always be needed. We only need to enhance their knowledge and interest, including financial management, use of technology, as well as opening up more avenues for assistance and funding,' he said.
He was speaking to reporters after launching the Freshwater Fish Farming (Catfish) Project by Koperasi Usahawan Alor Gajah Melaka Berhad at Jalan Kampung Rembia Tengah here today, which was also attended by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia (Angkasa) president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
Commenting further on the SejaTi MADANI programme spearheaded by Angkasa in collaboration with various government agencies, he said the initiative had shown increasing positive impact on participating communities, with some already entering their second phase.
'With a maximum funding of RM100,000, we can see that projects under this initiative have produced positive outcomes, including the emergence of various youth agro-projects such as catfish farming, village chicken rearing, agricultural drone rental services, and even sustainable cooking oil filtration innovations.
'Some of these projects have already progressed to the second phase without requiring additional funds, which indicates the success and resilience of this community economic model,' he said.
At the same time, he reminded freshwater fish farmers, especially those breeding catfish, not to discharge untreated pond waste water directly into rivers or main drainage systems.
He said a proactive approach using modern technology must be adopted by operators as more entrepreneurs, including local cooperatives, venture into agro-farming projects, particularly catfish farming.

Kuching-Pontianak Direct Route Provides Flexibility, Convenience For Travellers
KUCHING, July 26 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the Kuching-Pontianak route, scheduled to commence on Sept 12 and operate twice daily, would provide greater flexibility and convenience for travellers from both sides of the border. In a statement today, he said the opening of these air routes was not just a milestone in aviation, but also a testament to the strong historical, cultural, and familial ties shared by the people. 'It will boost tourism, trade, education and social linkages, especially among border communities,' he said. According to him, the Sarawak government appreciated the Indonesian government's move to reopen Supadio Airport in Pontianak for international flights, which is a strategic air route connecting Kuching and Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan. He said he was formally invited to attend the launch, but was unable to be present due to prior official commitments, and delivered a pre-recorded video message to show his full support. 'I wish to first extend my sincere apologies for not being able to attend today's very special event. 'Nonetheless, I am truly delighted and would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Sarawak Tourism Board for the successful organisation of the Sarawak Travel Fair in Pontianak,' he said in the message. Air Asia Malaysia announced the launch of the two new direct routes connecting Kuala Lumpur and Kuching to Pontianak, to become the only airline operating international flights to the West Kalimantan capital city. Over 10,000 Catholics Attend Feast Of St Anne Night Procession
BUKIT MERTAJAM, July 26 (Bernama) -- Over 10,000 Catholics gathered at the Minor Basilica of Stn Anne here to mark the annual Feast of St Anne, the largest religious celebration of its kind in the country. The devotees had began gathering at the church grounds since early evening before Mass was held at 7 pm, followed by the procession featuring a float bearing the statue of St Anne and her daughter Mary, as the faithful thronged alongside, holding candles as they made their way out of Gate 3 at 8.30 pm. The annual procession, the highlight of the 10-day religious celebration that began on July 18, traversed the 1.6 kilometre route along Jalan Kulim, Jalan Kampung Baru and Jalan Berjaya before re-entering the church att Gate 1 at about 11 pm. R Thhivya Bharti, 32, who came with her husband Jevi Jensan, 32, and son J Ebenesh, eight, said they came to fulfill their vows after their prayers were answered. 'Last year my husband wasn't well so we came here to pray for his health and by the grace of God, he was healed. This year, we're here to fulfill our vows and pray for another child,' she shared. Factory supervisor, Diana Blomindas, 29, from Ipoh noted that this year's celebrations were more festive, with many stalls and even more visitors compared to previous years. She recounted how her parents had brought her here when she was a child and that they would never miss celebrating the Feast of St Anne every year, adding that she was here this year to pray that her mother, Lourdes Mary Jacob, 68, who suffers from knee pain and has difficulty walking, be healed. Meanwhile, gym owner, Valentina Kaur, 28, and her husband Tunping, 38, revealed that they attended the procession tonight to seek blessings and give thanks after their wish for a first child was finally fulfilled after four years. 'I prayed in March for a child this year and two months later my prayers were answered and I was confirmed pregnant, so tonight we are here to offer thanks and pray so that my pregnancy will go smoothly,' she said.
