Emily added: "It's great that the Kennel Club are doing this, recognising what rescue dogs can do for people, how far they can come and that rescue is best."I mean who's rescued who? That's what I always say, because it feels like she's saved me as much as I saved her."

(Image: Hope Rescue ) A sickly dog abandoned by her owners has died in foster care a day after being found as a stray. Hope Rescue, based in Llanharan, was devastated when the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who passed away just 24 hours after being placed in a foster home. Kiwi, a frail and elderly dog, arrived at Hope Rescue earlier this week, visibly distressed and in pain from arthritis. After a thorough veterinary check, the rescue team came to the decision to place a "distressed" Kiwi into one of their foster home; offering her a chance to rest away from the harsh environment of the kennel. Just one day after entering foster care, Kiwi passed away. They said she had been left at the pound deliberately, despite her clear need for medical care. Hope Rescue Head of Operations Sara Rosser issued a statement to the organisation's website. "Abandoning your poorly, elderly dog in the pound is not okay. Abandoning your dog knowing it was likely ill is even less okay," she said. Article continues below Sara said the incident has left staff and volunteers feeling "upset" and "heartbroken". She added: "We would ask the public that if you are struggling for any reason, that you reach out to your nearest rescue centre for advice. Abandoning your dog when they need you most is not the answer." Despite the devastating loss, the team at Hope Rescue expressed their gratitude to Kiwi's foster carer, who provided her with love and comfort in her final hours. "We're so grateful to our foster carer for giving her comfort and love at the end, ensuring that she didn't pass away in kennels.," Sara continued.
