Hamza Igamane Rangers transfer exit talks 'stall' with Lille

Glasgow Times5 hours ago
It emerged last week that the Moroccan looked set to leave Ibrox after just one year spent in Glasgow.
He arrived from his homeland for around £1.5m last summer under Philippe Clement.
Now, with Russell Martin shaping his own squad, it seems Igamane could be allowed to leave, with Rangers seeking in excess of £15m for his services.
However, it seems that Ligue 1 giants Lille are at odds with the Scottish Premiership side over the fee.
Renowned transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri reports that talks between both clubs have stalled.
It's stated that Igamane has made it clear he wants to join the French outfit.
He wrote on X: "At the moment, talks are stalled between LOSC & Rangers over Hamza Igamane.
"There's still a gap regarding the transfer fee that the new Scottish management is unwilling to accept.
"The Moroccan has been clear — he wants to join Lille, with whom he already has an agreement. To be continued."

Even at 38, Jamie Vardy would still be an upgrade on the strikers at Rangers, writes Calum Crowe

When Rangers broke their club transfer record and forked out just over £4million to sign Paul Gascoigne from Lazio 30 years ago, it was a box-office moment that made headlines far beyond the boundaries of Scotland. A footballer with genuinely global appeal, Gascoigne arrived in Glasgow as a flawed genius whose talents illuminated everything around Rangers during that nine-in-a-row era in the '90s.

Joao Pedro double fires Chelsea into Club World Cup final

The Brazil forward, who only completed his £60million move from Brighton last week, struck in style in each half as Chelsea overcame his first professional club and sweltering conditions in New York on Tuesday. Their reward for victory is a guaranteed cash prize of around £80million and the chance to play for a jackpot exceeding £90m in Sunday's final against Real Madrid or Paris St Germain. Manager Enzo Maresca handed Pedro, who made his debut off the bench in the quarter-final defeat of Palmeiras, his first start in the absence of the suspended Liam Delap. It was a decision which paid very rich dividends as Chelsea battled past a Fluminense side who, captained by veteran former Blues defender Thiago Silva, had defied expectations to reach the last four. The temperature was around 34C at kick-off at MetLife Stadium and Chelsea were playing their 63rd game of a season that began last August. Yet they still made a strong start with the influential Enzo Fernandez having a shot blocked and then floating in a free-kick which Tosin Adarabioyo headed wide. Pedro Neto was also lively and it was his break down the left which led to Pedro's stunning opener on 18 minutes. We are all Pedro Neto right now. 😮‍💨#FIFACWC — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) July 8, 2025 Neto whipped in a cross which was cleared only as far as the former Brighton striker on the edge of the area and he brilliantly curled a shot beyond 44-year-old goalkeeper Fabio. It was a spectacular way to open his account for his new club but Pedro's celebrations were notably muted, almost apologetic, in front of the Fluminense fans. Chelsea could have immediately doubled their lead after Neto picked out Malo Gusto but the Frenchman's stooping header was straight at Fabio. They were almost made to regret that miss when Hercules broke through and rounded Robert Sanchez but Marc Cucurella cleared off the line. Cucurella off the line. 🤯#FIFACWC — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) July 8, 2025 Chelsea had another scare when French referee Francois Letexier pointed to the penalty spot after a Fluminense cross flicked the head of Thiago Santos and then struck the arm of Trevoh Chalobah. It seemed a harsh decision and was reversed following a VAR review. Chelsea threatened again before the break when a Neto strike was deflected wide and Sanchez came to their rescue after the restart when he saved from Everaldo. Pedro struck the decisive blow on 56 minutes as Chelsea broke from deep inside their own half. Fernandez found Pedro with a superb through-ball and he cut inside Ignacio to hit a thunderous shot in off the underside of the bar. 💥🇧🇷 — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 8, 2025 From then it became a case of seeing out the job and, although booked for time-wasting, Chelsea keeper Sanchez was not troubled. On the downside, Moises Caicedo appeared to pick up an injury in the closing stages. Nicolas Jackson could have added a third goal when he fired into the side-netting.

Stephen Welsh shoulder issue may require surgery

Midfielder Luke McCowan opened the scoring for the Scottish champions in the inaugural Cork Super Cup game in Ireland in the 28th minute with a sweet strike from just inside the box but a mix-up in the Hoops defence in the 67th minute, with interval substitute Welsh culpable, led to an equaliser from Matthew Murray. There was more misery for the 25-year-old centre-back, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Belgian side Mechelen, when he had to go off with his arm strapped up to protect yet another shoulder problem. Eighteen-year-old Colby Donovan, who was substituted before coming back on to replace Welsh, scored the late winner with a header. Hoops boss Rodgers confirmed Welsh's situation to Celtic TV, saying: 'He's done his shoulder again. 'It's the fourth time that it's popped out so I think you know when it keeps coming out like that, there's the possibility of an operation. So, he has to have a wee think about that. 'I think by the time the physios got on, it popped back in, but the pain was too sore so we took him off.' Rodgers described the match against the League of Ireland outfit at Pairc Ui Chaoimh as a 'really good exercise' for his side, which was far from full strength and which was much changed by the final whistle. The Northern Irishman said: 'First half, really good. We obviously changed the team and a lot of the young players in the second half will have learned from that. 'We didn't quite keep the ball so well and gave up the ball too cheaply. 'But overall, still find that Celtic mentality to keep going right to the very end and I've always said there's never a friendly when you play for Celtic. It's always a test because every team will want to always beat you. 'So we kept going right to the very end and Colby, who's been excellent, got the winning goal.' Celtic made it two wins out of two in pre-season after a win against Queen's Park last Friday and will head off to Portugal to continue their preparation for the upcoming campaign. Rodgers said: 'Obviously come the weekend, the international players will be back involved in the game (against Estrela da Amadora). 'But the start to the pre-season has been really good and we've got to continue working very, very hard. I think that's the nature of pre-season. 'There's no let-up, there's nothing easy, got to work to build that foundation of fitness and then we'll be, as I said, fully prepared, but we're looking forward to Portugal.' Meanwhile, Celtic announced Gustaf Lagerbielke has joined Braga on a permanent transfer. The 25-year-old Sweden defender joined the Parkhead club from Elfsborg in 2023 but spent last season on loan at Twente in the Netherlands.
