Qatar affirms readiness to host ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026

Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is participating as an observer in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council 2025 meetings, being held in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 17 to 27, 2025.
The Qatari delegation is led by Engineer Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, president of CRA and chair-designate of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26).
Through its participation, CRA will follow key agenda items of strategic importance to the global ICT community, particularly those concerning policy development, human capital, financial oversight, and budgetary planning.
Active engagement in these discussions ensures that CRA remains aligned with international ICT trends and contributes to shaping future regulatory frameworks in line with Qatar's national priorities.
As part of the Council Meeting, CRA will deliver a detailed presentation outlining Qatar's preparedness to host the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) in Doha in November 2026. This flagship event, the highest governing body of the ITU, sets the Union's strategic vision and plays a pivotal role in guiding global telecommunications and ICT development.
CRA's presentation will emphasise Qatar's logistical and organisational readiness, as well as its commitment to delivering an inclusive and forward-looking conference.
CRA will also host a dedicated pavilion showcasing interactive content to offer attendees an immersive experience of Qatar's rich cultural heritage and digital advancements.
In celebration of the 160th anniversary of the ITU, and on the sidelines of the Council Meeting, CRA will host an official luncheon, welcoming delegates from ITU Member States and senior officials. The Qatari delegation will also hold a series of high-level bilateral meetings to explore avenues of collaboration across various domains of telecommunications and ICT.
The ITU Council plays a central role in steering the Union's strategic direction, ensuring agility in responding to the rapid evolution of the global ICT landscape. It is tasked with supervising the day-to-day functions of the ITU, including programme coordination, budget approval, and policy evaluation.

Two international companies join Qatar Internet Exchange Point
DOHA: The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) announced the onboarding of KaopuCloud, a global edge-cloud provider, and Mibura, a data center and cloud solutions provider, to the Qatar Internet Exchange Point (QIXP). The move supports Qatar's growing digital infrastructure and advances its position as a leading hub for regional internet traffic. Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Affairs at the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Chair of the QIXP Steering Committee, stated: "The addition of KaopuCloud and Mibura aligns with CRA's strategic objective to localize digital content and cloud workloads within Qatar. With the deployment of a route server operating under an open peering policy, QIXP enables all participants to interconnect efficiently through a single access point. This translates into lower latency for users, reduced transit costs for providers, and a stronger foundation for digital innovation." Established in 2020, QIXP is a non-profit, carrier-neutral exchange that facilitates domestic traffic exchange among internet service providers, government entities, academic institutions, and content networks. By enabling local data routing, QIXP enhances network performance, security, and resilience supporting CRA's digital transformation agenda and the broader objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. As of May 2025, the number of active QIXP participants has reached 19, reflecting growing demand for local interconnection. Qatar also recently hosted the first GCC working group on data flow and traffic exchange, reinforcing its leadership in regional collaboration on internet infrastructure. KaopuCloud brings over two decades of global expertise in operating low-latency edge nodes in more than 50 cities, and over 150 data centers. Mibura, with a global presence in over 200 cities provides scalable cloud and hosting solutions in partnership with major global tech companies. The continued expansion of QIXP is expected to deliver tangible benefits across the digital ecosystem. Localizing traffic helps improve the performance of essential digital services such as video streaming, cloud applications, and content delivery while providing a secure, sovereign platform for hosting data within the country. For enterprises and service providers, QIXP offers efficient, cost-effective access to global and regional content delivery networks, streamlining connectivity through a single, localized point of exchange.

Qatar and Kazakhstan discuss enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation
ASTANA: The seventh session of the Qatari-Kazakh Supreme Joint Committee was held in Astana to enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. The Qatari side was headed by Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry HEDr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, while the Kazakh side was headed by Deputy Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan HEArman Kasenov, with the participation of a number of senior officials from both sides. In his opening remarks, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs emphasized the depth and strength of bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Kazakhstan, noting that the committee represents a pivotal platform for strengthening strategic relations and deepening partnerships in various vital sectors. During the committee's meeting, the two sides discussed areas of cooperation in a number of priority sectors, including trade, investment, finance, agriculture, transportation, science, higher education, and joint research, information technology and artificial intelligence, health, labor, tourism, culture, regional cooperation, and the environment and climate change. They agreed to take practical steps to expand cooperation, increase trade volume, and facilitate the flow of goods, services, and investments between the two countries. On the sidelines of the committee's work, Dr Al Sayedheld a series of bilateral meetings with a number of senior officials in the Republic of Kazakhstan, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy HE Serik Jumangarin; Chairman of the Atameken Chamber of CommerceMurat Karimsakov; and CEO of the Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth FundNurlan Djakupov. Awqaf launches training programme to prepare Qatari youth for job market
QNA Doha The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has launched its 2025 Summer Training Programme, aimed at enhancing the skills of Qatari youth and preparing them for future careers. The initiative was introduced during an orientation event organised by the Human Resources Department, represented by the Training and Administrative Development Section, with the participation of 77 Qatari high school and university students. In a statement on Saturday, the ministry announced that the training programme will run from July 6 to 31 as part of its ongoing efforts to support and empower young Qatari talent and guide them toward the labour market. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Assistant Director of the Human Resources Department at Awqaf Mohammed Abdulwahab Al Shaibani emphasised that the programme seeks to make productive use of the summer break by developing students' skills and providing them with valuable administrative and practical experience. He also highlighted that the programme introduces participants to the ministry's vision, mission, and the various services it provides to the community. Al Shaibani noted that the initiative aligns with the ministry's commitment to the 'Human Development' pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, aiming to prepare a knowledgeable and capable generation ready to engage in real work environments and adopt values of initiative, productivity, and professionalism. Head of Awqaf's Training and Administrative Development Section Salwa Abdullah Al Badr Al Mutawa'ah explained that this year's programme includes 35 male and 42 female students from both secondary and university levels. Participants will be assigned, based on their preferences, to four key departments within the ministry: the Information Systems Department, the Religious Call and Guidance Department, the Zakat Affairs Department, and the General Department of Endowments. Al Mutawa'ah added that trainees will be supervised directly by department officials, giving them hands-on exposure to the ministry's operations. The training will focus on essential workplace skills such as report writing, archiving, secretarial duties, data preparation, computer applications, effective communication, telephone etiquette, and working with the electronic archiving system. She also underscored the importance of utilising artificial intelligence tools in preparing reports and presentations to enhance the quality of student projects and help them keep pace with the demands of the digital age. The programme includes weekly performance evaluations, submitted to the Training and Development Section, with final assessments based on criteria such as diligence, discipline, teamwork, creativity, and engagement with the work environment. The orientation concluded with a call for all participants to make the most of this opportunity to develop their personal and professional skills, contributing to the growth of a qualified Qatari generation capable of playing an active role in the nation's development.
