Man pleads no contest to manslaughter, DUI in Pioneer Dr fatal crash
Gabriel Coronel, 33, also pleaded no contest to DUI causing injury in connection with the fatal crash that occurred last year on Pioneer Drive east of Denison Lane, records show.
He faces seven years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said. A sentencing hearing is scheduled next month.
Early on Feb. 17, 2024, Coronel's Chevy Traverse collided with a Honda Accord.
The Honda had four occupants. Three were found unconscious by California Highway Patrol officers, according to court documents, including a woman in the front passenger seat who was later pronounced dead.
Coronel told investigators the Honda veered into his lane, but physical evidence revealed the westbound Chevy crossed the yellow line and collided with the eastbound Honda, according to the documents.
Breath tests revealed Coronel's blood-alcohol content at 0.12 and 0.13%, above the 0.08% legal limit, documents said.
The driver of the Honda was also intoxicated, documents said, and was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI charges.

Driver suffers critical injuries in I-29 crash Saturday evening: KCPD
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is in the hospital with critical injuries after crashing near I-29 and Northwest Gateway Drive in Kansas City, Missouri, police say. KCPD says that around 6 p.m., officers responded to the area on a reported crash. Investigation showed that the driver of a Chevy SUV was speeding southbound on I-29 when they went off the road to the right. Blood biker died in crash with van on Pembrokeshire A-road, inquest hears
A coroner has heard how a retired Blood Bikes Wales volunteer lost his life following a collision between his Honda motorbike and a Volkswagen Crafter van. Timothy Minett, known as Tim, was riding his motorbike on the A478 between Glandy Cross and Blaenffos on July 2. Emergency services were called to reports of a collision between the red Honda motorbike and the oncoming white Volkswagen Crafter at 6.23pm on Wednesday, July 2. 78-year-old Mr Minett was declared deceased by paramedics at the scene at 7.29pm. HM Coroner for Pembrokeshire, Paul Bennett, heard that Mr Minett was born in London. He was married and retired and lived in Lower Nash, near Pembroke Dock. Mr Minett's inquest was opened this morning (Monday, July 14). Coroner's officer PC Carrie Sheridan said that a post-mortem had been carried out at West Wales General Hospital, the results of which were pending. She added that a full police investigation into the collision was currently being carried out. The coroner adjourned the inquest to November this year. It is understood Mr Minett was delivering urgent blood bike supplies when the collision occurred. Blood Bike groups throughout the country paid tribute to Mr Minett, thanking him for his service and sending heartfelt condolences to his family. In a statement last week, Mr Minett's family said: "We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend." Police also appealed for information about the crash and asked anyone who was travelling along the A478 between Glandy Cross and Blaenffos at the time, and may have information or dashcam footage, to contact Dyfed-Powys Police.

Chaparral man dies in Northeast El Paso crash, medical issue could be cause of crash
A Chaparral, New Mexico, man died after possibly suffering a medical issue while driving, causing him to crash into another vehicle and a concrete barrier in Northeast El Paso, authorities said. Raymond Lee Ervin Massey, 50, was driving a 2019 White Chevy Trax about 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, on U.S. 54 and exited the highway onto Gateway North Boulevard, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Det. Judy Oviedo wrote in a news release. He crashed in the rear corner of a 2002 Gold Chevy Avalanche driven by a 52-year-old man at the intersection of Gateway North and Kenworthy Street. Massey continued driving across the intersection and struck a concrete barrier at a high rate of speed, the news release states. Police believe Massey "may have suffered a medical emergency however, the cause of the collision is still under investigation," the news release states.
