Apple iOS 26 Beta 2: From Liquid Glass refinements to new Live Radio widget, here's what's new

Indian Express6 days ago

Apple has launched iOS 26 beta 2, the latest version of its operating system for iPhones. Announced at the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) just over a month ago, the latest iOS version introduces a redesigned translucent design language called 'Liquid Glass,' along with several other new features. Here's a quick look at iOS 26 beta 2.
With the latest iOS beta, Apple has seemingly fixed one of the most annoying changes early adopters have been complaining about. Since WWDC 2025, several beta testers who have updated their device to iOS 26 have been complaining that the refreshed Liquid Glass made text in the Control Center hard to see and almost unreadable at times.
Thankfully, Apple seems to have noticed the issue and adjusted the transparency for better legibility. Instead of a clear background, iOS 26 beta 2 now has a darker colour and more blur, which should help with readability issues. However, it looks like the user interface still needs some work when it comes to lighter backgrounds.
In case you don't like the transparency, you can use the Reduce Transparency option under Accessibility in the Settings app to cut down on the translucent user interface.
Coming to Safari, Apple seems to have repositioned the new tab button in the tab management view. Now, the '+' button to open a new tab can be found in the bottom left, like in iOS 18. The company is also adding a new Live Radio widget to its Music app, which can be helpful if you find yourself often tuning in to the service.
The Apple App Store is also getting a new Accessibility section for product pages. However, developers will have to list the details and manually populate them. The Transcribe Calls option has now been renamed to 'Save Call Transcripts.' Also, Apple now says that participants will be informed with a sound before the process begins.

Grievance redressal goes digital with new govt app

Panaji: The directorate of public grievances (DPG) plans to roll out a mobile app for citizens to file complaints, upload documents, and track grievances in real time. The project aims to streamline the grievance redressal mechanism by making it accessible and transparent. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Users can register using email, mobile number, or Aadhaar and file complaints by selecting a category and department, with options to attach documents or media. The system will then auto-assign the grievance to the department concerned or officer for redressal. 'The idea is to make grievance registration simple and the resolution process visible to the citizen at every step. Push notifications will inform users of status changes, and they will be able to track real-time progress,' the official said. The app could also support complaints in Konkani. Unresolved grievances will be auto-escalated, with a feedback option for users to rate the quality of redressal. 'We want the system to be transparent and citizen-centric, where people can hold departments accountable,' the official said. She said the app will be available on both Android and iOS platforms. Govt will appoint grievance officers to vet and screen complaints for authenticity and completeness. The app dashboard will show complaint status, turnaround time for resolution, and department-wise trends. 'The analytics module is essential to identify if certain departments show recurring issues. It is not just about fixing individual complaints, but also about fixing the system,' the official said. The DPG aims to simplify grievance submissions and improve communication between citizens and authorities. The app will address public dissatisfaction with delays and lack of updates in traditional channels, promoting digital governance, transparency, and accountability.

Mercedes, Audi, Volvo decline Apple CarPlay Ultra over control concerns: Report

The new and upgraded Apple CarPlay will be rolling out to most vehicles within the next 12 months. Check Offers Several of the world's top carmakers, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Polestar, and Renault, have supposedly ruled out incorporating Apple's next-gen CarPlay Ultra system in their future models. This comes against previous expectations after Apple revealed the new-gen in-car experience in 2022. While Apple positioned CarPlay Ultra as a futuristic leap from its standard CarPlay system—offering control over all in-car displays including the instrument cluster—many European automakers appear hesitant to give Apple such extensive control over their digital ecosystems. According to a Financial Times report, a Renault executive directly told Apple: 'Don't try to invade our own systems." This statement encapsulates broader concerns among manufacturers that adopting CarPlay Ultra could erode their control over user experience, vehicle data, and system design. Also Read : WWDC 2025: Apple CarPlay gets 3 new features with iOS 26 Select automakers still on board Despite the resistance, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and Porsche continue to commit to adding the CarPlay Ultra system to their offerings. Jaguar Land Rover, however, said it is still considering the system, an attitude of more guarded but open-ended considering. Other manufacturers such as Ford, Nissan, and Infiniti, who were included in Apple's original 2022 list of partners, declined to provide updates but didn't completely rule out adoption. Honda and Acura are also reportedly still on track to implement the new system in future vehicles. Apple CarPlay Ultra: Features CarPlay Ultra is intended to take Apple's user interface beyond the infotainment screen and into the instrument cluster, showing important data such as speed, battery/fuel levels, and climate controls through Apple's software rather than the automaker's native design. Also Read : Apple CarPlay Ultra debuts in Aston Martin DBX 707. Now gets multi-screen support The system is currently available only in select vehicles—such as the Aston Martin DBX—and requires an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 18.5 or later, with a wireless connection initiating the interface automatically on vehicle start-up. Apple's iOS 26 update, expected in September or October, will include enhancements to both standard CarPlay and CarPlay Ultra. New features include updated UI brackets, compact calling notifications, 'Tapback' emojis as reactions in Messages, and Live Activities through the vehicle's display experience. The reluctance of some auto OEMs to adopt CarPlay Ultra reflects the growing dispute between automobile manufacturers and tech companies regarding ownership of the in-car digital experience—which is becoming more central to both modern vehicles and user expectations.
