
T-Mobile claims U.S. network lead, unveils new DoorDash perk and T-Satellite launch date
BELLEVUE, Wash. — T-Mobile announced a new partnership with DoorDash, offering a free subscription to the DoorDash DashPass beginning July 8 for new and existing customers.
The service normally costs $10 per month, including free delivery and reduced service fees. With the news, it becomes the latest in a series of membership perks for the company's wireless subscribers.
Earlier during a live-streamed event Monday, the company announced the upcoming launch date for its T-Satellite service, set for July 23. The service aims to eliminate wireless dead zones across roughly 500,000 square miles of U.S. territory with no traditional mobile coverage.
T-Mobile also said it's now able to claim overall U.S. network leadership over Verizon and AT&T (not only in 5G network coverage), based on what it described as the most exhaustive network test in U.S. history, by the network measurement company Ookla.
'This day has been decades in the making,' said T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert, speaking to a small group of media and a large crowd of enthusiastic employees at the company's Tech Experience 5G Hub, a short drive from its headquarters.
It's the latest stage in the company's broader resurgence. As of March 2025, T-Mobile reported a total 130.9 million customer connections, including 1.3 million postpaid net additions and 495,000 postpaid phone additions in the first quarter, more than any other U.S. carrier.

When Apple made the surprise announcement that its iPhone 13 series was suddenly compatible with carrier-supported satellite connectivity, it was ushering in a new way to stay connected. 'With 650+ satellites in orbit, the largest satellite-to-mobile constellation on the planet aims to connect you almost anywhere you can see the sky. It's already helping save lives during disasters and providing an extra level of safety for those who love to explore the great outdoors,' Sievert goes on. The service is available for compatible handsets, and that includes most current Android phones as well as all iPhones from iPhone 13 onwards. It went live on Wednesday, July 23, right on schedule — though had already been offered to customers impacted by the recent floods in Texas — and the new service has been called a game-changer because, unlike rival satellite options, including Apple's own Globalstar service, it doesn't require users to point their phone at the satellite. It works just like regular cell connections do, even in your pocket. If T-Mobile is your carrier and you have the Experience Beyond service, you get this new capability included. Others, including AT&T and Verizon customers, can access the service for $10 per month. The T-Mobile satellite service is limited to texting with iMessage and SMS, and data is not supported, though more capabilities may follow. For now, this is the beginning of a new way to stay in touch wherever you are, even if your phone is in your pocket.

Agriculture Department to Move Most Remaining Washington Workers Out of City
The Agriculture Department will move most of its Washington-based employees outside the nation's capital, the agency announced Thursday. Brooke L. Rollins, the agriculture secretary, said in a memo that the agency would keep no more than 2,000 of the 4,600 members of its current Washington work force at offices in the area, instead spreading employees across five regional hubs. The memo also outlined plans to consolidate or eliminate local offices for subagencies focused on research, statistics, nutrition, forestry and conservation. 'President Trump was elected to make real change in Washington, and we are doing just that by moving our key services outside the Beltway and into great American cities across the country,' Ms. Rollins said in a statement. The vast majority of Agriculture Department employees already work outside the Washington area, spread across the country to assist farmers, conduct research and inspect animal and plant health. The agency's headquarters, though, are on the National Mall and house offices focused on civil rights, congressional relations and watchdog functions in addition to support staff. Ms. Rollins noted that more than 15,000 Agriculture Department employees — about 15 percent of the department's work force of about 100,000 — had taken buyouts. The consolidations and relocations will almost certainly lead to more exits. When the Agriculture Department moved two research agencies from Washington to Kansas City in 2019, each lost more than half of its staff before eventually recovering, according to the Government Accountability Office. The hubs will be Raleigh, N.C.; Kansas City, Mo.; Indianapolis; Fort Collins, Colo.; and Salt Lake City — all cities that already have regional offices. According to the memo, the Agriculture Department will also vacate, over the course of several years, the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center — a 115 year-old facility in Maryland that has contributed to improving the shelf life of butter, developing pesticides and creating new varieties of vegetables and fruits. The American Federation of Government Employees, a union of federal employees, criticized the move. 'This administration is moving at breakneck speed to slash the size of the federal government, often with little thought into the consequences this will have on the American people who rely on the services our members deliver,' Everett Kelley, the union's president, said in a statement.
