Dubai Police urges parental supervision to protect children from electronic gaming-related crimes
DUBAI (ALETIHAD)Dubai Police's Cybercrime Department has called for family supervision to protect children from the risks associated with online games amid the ongoing summer vacations.The department urged parents to educate children on the importance of avoiding interactions with strangers through game features.The cybercrime unit, part of General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, highlighted that increased video game usage during the summer break necessitates active family involvement as the first line of defence.'This oversight is crucial for safeguarding children against cybercrime risks and addressing unhealthy behaviours such as bullying and digital addiction," the authority added.Officials also encouraged parents to be vigilant about gaming content, and to assess based on each child's age.
Precautions Interactive features can allow children to interact with strangers looking to commit fraud, extortion, or other offenses against public decency.The cybercrime department advised parents to take several precautions to protect their children from risks associated with video games, including activating parental controls on devices, consistently monitoring children's online behaviour, checking the types of games played, and ensuring that all games are age-appropriate.Children should also be cautioned against sharing personal information or photos in games, and must follow specific limits on gaming time.
Report Cybercrime If cybercrimes do transpire, the cybercrime department urged reports to be submitted through the 'e-Crime' platform by calling 901, or via the Dubai Police app or website.

He underscored their essential support, which has contributed significantly to these seasonal events' continued success and remarkable growth. 'Their involvement has been instrumental in increasing student participation in the summer programs,' he Muwaiza emphasised the Dubai Police's unwavering commitment to supporting and organising summer programmes and activities for school students at the close of the academic year. He pointed out that these activities and programmes aim to effectively utilise students' time while fostering a strong sense of belonging to their national identity.'They promote respect for the law, instill loyalty to wise leadership, and cultivate a generation of informed youth aware of significant issues and risks. This proactive approach equips students to navigate challenges responsibly and professionally, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and legal consequences,' Bin Muwaiza said this year's Summer Courses Programme engaged 1,332 students, including 776 boys and 556 girls from 28 nationalities.'Among the participants, 870 were citizens and 462 were expatriates. This marks an 18% increase in overall participation, a 33% rise in the number of centers, and a 13% growth in the diversity of nationalities represented,' he added. 16 Training CentresIn addition, the Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics indicated that students enrolled in the summer courses programme participated in training sessions and courses across 16 training centers. The official highlighted the diverse activities and programmes in this year's offerings, including 36 engaging training programmes catering to various interests, including the Young Investigator Course, Diving, Swimming, Military and Fitness Training, Future Officers, 901 Call Centre Training, K9 Police Dogs Course, Cycling Course, Horse Care Course, K9 Care and Welfare Programe, in addition to awareness lectures and field visits.

Dubai: Two men sentenced to jail, financial restrictions for drug use
Two Asian men were sentenced to three months in prison and ordered to be deported after serving their jail terms for using drugs at a workers' accommodation in the city, a Dubai court has ruled. The Dubai Misdemeanours and Violations Court also imposed additional restrictions on the defendants. They have been barred from transferring or depositing any money—either personally or through third parties—without prior approval from the UAE Central Bank, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. The financial restrictions will remain in place for two years after they complete their sentence. The case dates back to January this year, when a supervisor at a workers' residence alerted Dubai Police after spotting the defendants in an abnormal state and allegedly consuming drugs. Officers immediately responded to the report and found the two men in possession of a cigarette containing a suspected narcotic substance. According to police testimony, both suspects were detained, and samples were collected for testing. The results confirmed that the substance was a dried herb classified as a controlled narcotic and that both men had consumed drugs. During interrogations, the first defendant admitted that the cigarette belonged to the second defendant. The latter told investigators that a third colleague, who was arrested and tried separately, had delivered the drugs in exchange for Dh10. He added that the drugs were handed over by an African man. The court found both men guilty of drug use and imposed the sentence accordingly.
