Make room for Mushroom the dog

Just where this cute fellow with the odd name of Mushroom came from is a mystery. But like his name, he popped up one day in Gunma Prefecture and was taken in just last month.
Unlike most of the tightly wound Shibas that come to ARK, Mushroom is laidback and very chill. Gentle and affectionate, he is believed to be around 8 years old and weighs just shy of 13 kilograms. He is great with people of all ages, as well as other dogs, but untested with cats.

It's a small miracle that easygoing Mushroom hasn't already been snatched up. He loves walks and exhibits an impressive air of purpose when he's out and about. He appears to be on a mission — and we're hoping it's to find his way to a loving home.

A quirky cat with a larger-than-life personality

Though he's only about 8 months old, Piccolo is no longer the tiny kitten he was when he was brought to ARK and earned his name. He has grown into a cat with a long and sturdy body, but remains a very cute fellow all the same. Bursting with vitality, Piccolo is a force to be reckoned with. He throws himself into life with enthusiasm and exuberance. Whether he's eating, playing, curling up with his foster folks or racing around the apartment, he's a high-energy cat, to say the least. And at times, he gets so carried away that he might even nip on your fingers and toes. Piccolo's quirkiness has endeared him to everyone he meets. 'There's something incredibly comical about this cat that I can't put my finger on,' says one ARK veteran. | Kimiko Ishihara 'There's something incredibly comical about this cat that I can't put my finger on,' says one ARK veteran who has gotten to know thousands of animals over the years. 'Piccolo looks cool, calm and collected, but falls off tables or suddenly races around. He's actually rather awesome, if you ask me.' High praise indeed for this fabulous fellow. Bach the bobtail will warm your lap and heart

Bach is a very classy cat with his tuxedo look and symmetrical markings. He's also calm and composed under pressure, despite coming from a troubled home. Following a hurried exit from his former abode, he strolled out of his carrier and immediately found a cozy spot at ARK from which to assess the new surroundings. Born in 2009, Bach is a solid little fellow. He has the classic Japanese bobtail look that is less commonly seen these days. You can pick him up and he'll stay in your lap as long as you'd like, a true friend and warm security blanket. If you hug him, he'll hug back. Though he comes from a troubled home, Bach is a sweet fellow who loves to play. | Yuki Iwazaki But show him a toy and he'll switch to hunter mode in a flash. He plays hard and fast, determined to catch his prey. He has the heart of a hunter, but he'll never bite or scratch. And though he has a sweet meow, he usually prefers to be silent. Anyone would be lucky to have him in their home. He's a classic, through and through. If you are interested in adopting, email ARK at
