Big Country, Simple Minds and The Cult pay tribute
The husband to Jules and father to sons Dylan and Evan, who supported U2 and Status Quo on tour and played with Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, died in the early hours of April 29 from blood cancer. He was first diagnosed with the blood cancer chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) more than 30 years ago, aged 36.
Mike, who was born in Prestatyn and lived in Dyserth, first rose to prominence in the early 1980s with The Alarm, with hits including 68 Guns and Strength.
He reformed The Alarm in 2000 and also worked as the singer for Big Country for a couple of years from 2011.
Big Country said: "Bruce, Sandra, Jamie and the band would like to send their heartfelt condolences to Jules, Dylan and Evan following the devastating news of Mike's passing. We are all deeply saddened."
Billy Duffy, from The Cult, a long-term friend of Mike's [Mike formed a band called Coloursound with the guitarist], said: 'I truly believe a light has gone out in the world today and I'm going to miss my brother from another mother.
"Mike was not only an inspiration to millions of people suffering from cancer but also an inspiration to me as he spread nothing but positivity in every situation.
'I can take some comfort from the fact that when the end came, he accepted it with his usual grace, and ended his days in this life in his beloved North Wales with his family and friends around him."
Simple Minds frontman Jim Kerr penned a heartfelt tribute, making mention when he last saw the artist and his wife.
He said: "'To stay alive and appreciate every second you've got, it's what it's all about.'
"It was words to that effect Mike Peters said when he and his wife Jules sat with me and Charlie on our last visit to Wales last year.
"As always when in their company, so good it was just to sit and talk, we almost forgot that we were due on stage within minutes.
"But it was time to go to work and so they accompanied Simple Minds as we made our way from the dressing room to the steps leading to the stage, hugging and shaking hands as we were about to walk on. We had no idea then when we would next see each other, but hoped sooner rather than later?
"Some months later we were delighted to know that Mike Peters was due to join the line-up of acts performing at our Simple Minds, Bellahouston Park show in Glasgow, this coming June. I had also mentioned something about having him over to my house the night before the Glasgow event, no big deal just something to be arranged nearer the time.
"Over the next day you'll read a lot of comments describing Mike as a beautiful person, a Welsh hero, and so much more.
"All will be absolutely true. He was loved and admired by so many.
"On behalf of Simple Minds we send our condolences."

00s pop star reveals pain of fame forcing him 'back into the closet'
Noughties music star Noel Sullivan has revealed the struggles he was secretly facing behind the scenes at the height of his fame in one of the country's favourite pop bands. Now aged 44, the Welsh singer rose to popularity in Hear'Say in 2001, having been created on the talent show Popstars. Along with bandmates Myleene Klass, Kym Marsh, Suzanne Shaw, and Danny Foster, he broke chart records with their debut single, Pure and Simple, which remains just as catchy today. However, away from the bright lights of stardom, Noel was battling with having to stay quiet about who he truly was. Just 19 at the time he was thrust into the spotlight, Noel has said he was forbidden from discussing his sexuality, feeling as though he had been 'chucked back into the closet'. It wasn't until 2017 that he publicly came out as gay when he announced he had married his partner. Speaking to Heat magazine, he shared: 'It was really mad. It was a lifetime ago. I can look back at it with fond memories now, but it took a while to sort through the damage.' With thousands of members from all over the world, our vibrant LGBTQ+ WhatsApp channel is a hub for all the latest news and important issues that face the LGBTQ+ community. Simply click on this link, select 'Join Chat' and you're in! Don't forget to turn on notifications! 'But I'm here, and I survived,' he declared proudly. The performer reflected on his late teens and early twenties, which ought to have been the time he could 'explore who [he] is'. 'To be boxed back up and chucked back in the closet was a damaging experience for me; it took a lot of time to find some resolution to that and not feel guilty or shameful because of it.' Noel is now in a happy marriage with husband James and often shares an insight into their relationship with social media snaps. On his birthday several years ago, he also reminisced on his pop band days and how he sank into 'depression' when he was unable to come out. He wrote: 'As a 19 year old, I was told to shut up about my sexuality. If I wanted a career, I had to be something else. Silent. It ruined me. 'No one was held accountable for the years of depression and self abuse that followed. It got to the point where I felt like I couldn't speak out anymore because my time in the spotlight had passed and I assumed no one would care. 'It was a turbulent time but I took solace in my family and in theatre. Without the crazy, beautiful, supportive and talented people I worked with, lived with and performed for, I could never have found myself.' 'After years of self doubt I finally feel free to say what I need to,' Noel concluded. 'Free to let go of the past, free to love myself. But most importantly, free to love. Thank you [sic]'. While Noel now enjoys a much quieter, slower-paced life, he hasn't turned his back on entertainment completely. A lover of theatre, he previously appeared in productions of Fame, Love Shack, and What a Feeling, as well as playing male lead Danny Zuko in Grease on the West End in the late 2000s. Noel also had a cameo in Gavin and Stacey, starred as Galileo Figaro in the UK tour of We Will Rock You, and shared the role of Tick/Mitzi with Jason Donovan in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. In more recent years, he's popped up in BBC's Call the Midwife Christmas special and played Oscar Baxter in Doctors. As for Hear'Say, their glittering success was short-lived. Things started going downhill in January 2002, when Kym left due to conflicts with Noel and Myleene. She was replaced by former Boom! member Johnny Shentall, and they released just one single, Lovin' is Easy, as part of this lineup. In October 2002, Hear'Say announced they would be breaking up, having failed to make a commercial splash with their latest music. At the time, they cited 'abuse from the public' as the main reason for the split, while its members went on to achieve success individually. Kym, 49, enjoyed a solo career and famously starred as Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, has hosted Morning Live, and also starred in Waterloo Road. More Trending Danny, 46, has had a quieter career, but performs as part of his own soul and Motown group, Danny Foster & The Big Soul Corporation, and also auditioned for The Voice. Suzanne, 43, is an established West End performer, won series 3 of Dancing On Ice and took part in the All Stars series, and played Eve Jenson in Emmerdale. Finally, Myleene, 47, was an iconic I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate in 2006, and went on to win the All Stars series in 2023. She also presents on TV and radio, and was awarded an MBE this year for her women's health campaigning. Got a story? Alex Jones shares heartbreaking family update as celeb pal steps in to help in emergency
Welsh TV presenter Alex Jones called on a close celebrity friend to help during a family emergency, with the One Show host describing him as the "light at the end of a pretty scary 24 hours" Welsh BBC star Alex Jones has shared a heartbreaking update on her family's pet, after she called on a celebrity pal to help her in her emergency. The One Show host, 48, shared her harrowing experience on social media, telling her followers Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick saved the day. She described her friend as the "light at the end of a pretty scary 24 hours" after she found her new pet in pain after being hit by a car. Alex told her fans: "We think our gorgeous little kitten, Sabrina was hit by a car yesterday evening but despite breaking her pelvis, she managed to crawl back to the house to tell us that she was hurt. "After overnight emergency care, she is now with @profnoelfitzpatrick at his hospital where I'm certain she will receive the best care possible." Posing for a selfie with Noel, Alex added: "My brilliant friend @profnoelfitzpatrick has been the light at the end of a pretty scary 24 hours." Mum-of-three Alex announced to her fans that her family had adopted their kitten Sabrina in March this year. She, her husband Charlie Thomson and their children Kit, Teddy and Annie, said they were "obsessed" with their "most perfect little kitty kat." Their new addition joined their growing family, after she revealed last year that t hey had also welcomed a new puppy into the fold. Charlie had shocked his family with the heartwarming surprise, with Alex expressing her feelings to her followers. In a fit of excitement, Alex shared: "Big news!!! There is a new addition to the family and it was a COMPLETE SURPRISE (thanks Charlie). "It was a huge shock but I've fallen head over heels with little Scout, we all have. The children's faces were a picture!!! I've never had a dog before so any puppy advice would be most welcome." In the video, taken in her sprawling garden, Alex introduced her pup to fans saying: "So I have a bit of news. On Monday night, and it's taking me a few days to process it, I came home here and Charlie was standing in the middle of the drive with what I thought was a jumper in his hands. And then this black jumper moved.' She continued: "I got out of the car and I said, 'Whose dog is that?' And he said, 'Ours'. We have a new arrival. Look, we have a new little baby. "This is Scout. Say hi. 'Hi everybody, hello'. He's 10 and a half weeks old. I absolutely love him. He's gorgeous." But Alex recently opened up about one of her husband's habits that gets under her skin, claiming his love of The Simpsons sends her "into a spin." In a candid chat on their Binge! podcast, she told McFly star Harry Judd that Charlie loves to watch the animated show, and has also introduced to their eight year old son Teddy. However, she believes it's "not suitable" for kids, with the show usually being given a PG or 12 rating in the UK. She told Harry: "I hate The Simpsons. That, what's his name [Homer], I hate him. "It's because Charlie keeps putting it on. He's the antithesis of me, he absolutely loves it, and he has now started showing it to Ted and it's just not suitable. It sends me into a spin every time I walk into the room and the bloody Simpsons is on. No."
