New Delhi [India], June 28: Mahindra Logistics presents ET Edge Supply Chain Management Fest 2025, (ET Edge SCM Fest 2025) successfully concluded a two-day transformative summit on 26th and 27th June at Taj Palace, New Delhi. Day 1 featured impactful sessions led by Shri Nitin Gadkari and Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, while Day 2 focused on regional logistics, sustainable transport, and India's global supply chain ambitions.
Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Hon'ble Cabinet Minister of Industry, Food & Supplies, Forest & Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi, opened Day 2 of the ET Edge SCM Fest 2025, highlighting Delhi's pivotal role in India's logistics growth. "Delhi's vibrant MSME ecosystem, with over 8,000 factories and nearly 4 lakh workers, is at the heart of India's supply chain growth story," he noted.
He announced plans for three new industrial hubs with warehousing, logistics parks, and multimodal facilities. "We are developing modern hubs across Delhi to meet future supply chain demands," he added. With Delhi contributing nearly 16% to India's warehousing market, Sirsa emphasized policy reforms and formalization of the unorganized sector to position the capital as a leading logistics hub. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a "Viksit Delhi" with modern infrastructure, empowered industries, and inclusive growth.
Vijay Kumar, IAS, Chairman, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, delivered a compelling special address. He detailed the strategic interventions being made to position inland waterways as a clean, efficient, and economically viable mode of transport in India's logistics landscape."When you move your cargo on the waterways, you are not only benefiting economically, so the country is also benefiting in terms of reduction in pollution, in terms of the congestion. A 2,000-ton vessel on the waterway replaces 40 rail wagons or 125 trucks decongesting our roads and railways in a major way."
Alongside industry leaders, Dr. Vandana Singh spotlighted the transformative potential of India's air cargo sector. She emphasized its strategic value, noting, "Air cargo may constitute just 1% of total freight volume globally, but it carries over 35% of the total value of global trade." Highlighting inclusive growth, she said, "Growth shouldn't be restricted to metro cities; we want rural, agricultural, and artisanal economies to benefit." On sustainability, she firmly stated, "Sustainability is non negotiable," aligning air cargo goals with Vision 2040. Confident in India's momentum, she added, "India is here to stay and will move forward ahead of China." Concluding, she remarked, "The sky is not the limit. It's the runway to new possibilities."
Sagar Kadu, Director (Logistics), DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, highlighted the transformative impact of the National Logistics Policy in his special address. "Logistics today is not just about transportation--it's about enabling industry, empowering trade, and accelerating economic growth. The National Logistics Policy is driving a shift towards an integrated, tech-enabled, and cost-efficient ecosystem that supports India's ambition of becoming a $5 trillion economy," he said.
"With 78 billion worth of infrastructure projects underway, Maharashtra is spearheading India's logistics revolution."said Deependra Singh Kushwah,IAS, Commissioner(Industries) Government of Maharashtra. "From the 701 km - Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway to the upcoming airport and Atal Setu - we're integrating advanced infrastructure with forward looking policy and incentives to reduce logistics costs, empower MSMEs and make Maharashtra a $1 trillion economy by 2028"
Positioning Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of India's logistics revolution, T.G. Bharath, Minister for Industries, Commerce & Food Processing, Government of Andhra Pradesh, underscored the state's strategic vision during his Guest of Honor Address. "In Andhra Pradesh, we're not just focusing on the ease of doing business--we're driving the speed of doing business. With world-class port infrastructure, robust multimodal logistics, and investor-friendly policies, we are building a future-ready ecosystem that positions AP as the logistics nerve center of India," he remarked.
Sandeep Nanduri, IAS, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, spotlighted Tamil Nadu's logistics transformation through robust infrastructure, smart tracking systems, and forward-looking policy initiatives. "Tamil Nadu is redefining supply chain excellence by combining industrial strength with integrated, sustainable, and tech-enabled logistics. With dedicated policies, warehousing reforms, and real-time freight tracking, we are building a cost-efficient and future-ready logistics ecosystem," he said. From multimodal parks to greenfield airports and a soon-to-be-launched state warehousing policy, the state continues to position itself as a national leader in smart logistics and industrial facilitation.
The ET Edge Supply Chain Management Fest 2025 culminated with an awards ceremony honouring visionaries driving innovation across the logistics sector. With over 150 industry leaders, 50+ transformative sessions, and participation from key policymakers, the summit emerged as a defining platform shaping the future of India's supply chain. Centre has sanctioned projects worth ₹1,156.15 crore to Tamil Nadu, says Fisheries Ministry
Responding to an analysis that appeared in The Hindu on June 14 that Tamil Nadu's share is higher than Union government's in funding for at least six Central schemes, the Union Fisheries Ministry said that under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Centre sanctioned 116 projects worth ₹1,156.15 crore to Tamil Nadu government with ₹448.65 crore of Central share. In a statement, the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry said an additional fund of ₹262.42 crore was released for implementation of Blue Revolution Scheme (during 2017-18) to Tamil Nadu for implementation of the projects approved under PMMSY. The department added that a total of ₹711.07 crore from the Centre and ₹460.10 crore of the State's share was approved in the total project cost. 'The share of funding by Government of India in the projects approved under PMMSY is 60% of the total government assistance. However, the States are free to decide on their contribution for implementation of the Centrally-Sponsored Scheme of PMMSY,' the statement said. The department said that the Centre had additionally sanctioned ₹335.29 crore (including ₹123.06 crore out of ₹262.42 crore released from the Government of India for implementation of Blue Revolution Scheme in 2017-18) to Tamil Nadu during 2020-25, for utilisation and implementation of all projects approved under PMMSY.

Government should take Opposition leaders into confidence on Trump's claims of ‘opening up' India: Congress leader Anand Sharma
Senior Congress leader and former Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on Saturday (June 28, 2025) urged the Government of India to clarify and take Opposition leaders into confidence regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's claim on 'opening up' India by signing a 'very big' trade deal soon. The India-U.S. trade deal should be mutually rewarding and not 'suboptimal under pressure', Mr. Sharma said in a series of posts on X. 'President Trump's claim of sweeping Indian tariff concessions in the proposed trade deal and 'opening up' India needs to be clarified by the government and leadership of Opposition parties be taken in confidence,' he said in a post. Mr. Sharma said India's national interests must be protected, and it must also continue to uphold and strengthen a rules-based multilateral trade regime and honour World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreements. 'It is equally important that India engages the partner countries and major trading blocs and regions: EU, ASEAN, African Union, GCC and LAC to deepen market access and trade,' Mr. Sharma added. The former Union Minister's comments come a day after his party colleague Jairam Ramesh had taken a dig at the government, saying it seems that India 'gets to know decisions of great importance to it from the White House'. 'As is now becoming evident, India has to get to know decisions of great importance to it from the White House in Washington D.C.,' Mr. Ramesh had said in an X post on Friday (June 27, 2025).

China's expanding strategic presence in Indian Ocean Region is a challenge for India: Parliament Committee Report
The growing presence of extra-regional players in the India Ocean Region (IOR), especially China gaining a foothold in the region, is one of the strategic challenges for India, reads the report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs. The report, released earlier this week, further reads that China has been undertaking several infrastructure projects focusing on ports, airports and the logistics sector for dual-use purposes, in addition to deploying research and survey vessels in the region to augment maritime domain awareness, and collect sensitive oceanography and marine data. Explained | China's moves in the Indian Ocean On the extent of inroads made by China in the IOR, how aggressive China is, and how secure India's position is, the report reads that China has expanded its naval power in the region by increasing the number of vessels and duration of deployment. This has been facilitated by establishing a military base in Djibouti in 2017 and the creation of dual-use infrastructure astride critical maritime choke points in the IOR to serve logistics support functions. The report further reads that as part of this strategy, China is also developing ports and other infrastructure facilities in the littoral countries of the IOR, including in the vicinity of India's maritime boundary, and has a stated goal of becoming a maritime power. India has been working closely with partner countries in the region and sensitising them on China's activities and the long-term implications for their internal and regional security. In December 2024, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reiterated his country's stated position of not permitting its territory to be used in any manner inimical to the security of India, as well as towards regional stability. While the Indian government is aware of China's engagements with other countries, including Sri Lanka, India's relations with these countries stand on their own footing and are independent of the relations of these countries with third countries, the report reads. Also Read: All eyes are now on the Indian Ocean region Replying to the government's perception towards China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and its debt-trapped diplomacy, the report mentioned that the Government of India has had a principled position on the initiative. Their concerns arise inter alia from the inclusion of the so-called illegal China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a flagship project of BRI, which impinges on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. The so-called illegal 'China-Pakistan Economic Corridor' passes through parts of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, which are under the illegal occupation of Pakistan. The government has conveyed its concerns to the Chinese side on multiple occasions and has asked them to cease such activities. 'We have been clear that militarisation of the Indian Ocean Region is not desirable and it will adversely impact security of the Indian Ocean and the wider Indo-Pacific,' the report mentioned regarding potential military use of ports and infrastructures by China developed in IOR.
