ABE hosts Serbian, Angolan delegations to explore agricultural cooperation
The Agricultural Bank of Egypt (ABE) recently received two official delegations from Serbia and Angola in separate visits aimed at exploring opportunities for cooperation in agricultural development and gaining insight into the bank's strategic role in supporting Egypt's farming sector and rural economy.
The Serbian delegation was led by Dragan Glamočić, Serbia's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management. The delegation was welcomed by ABE CEO Mohamed Abou El-Saud, alongside Deputy CEOs Sami Abdel Sadek and Ghada Mostafa.
During the visit, the Serbian officials were briefed on the achievements of ABE's comprehensive development strategy, which aims to enhance the bank's operations and reinforce its position as one of Egypt's leading specialised institutions for financing agricultural projects, agri-industries, and related services. The strategy supports Egypt's broader national goals of sustainable agricultural development and economic resilience.
Minister Glamočić praised ABE's vital contribution to the sector, commending its developmental role in promoting agricultural growth and empowering farmers. For his part, Abou El-Saud expressed appreciation for the visit and outlined the bank's commitment to advancing national priorities in agricultural development and sustainability, in line with the state's strategic vision to optimise the sector's potential.
In a separate meeting, ABE leadership also welcomed an Angolan delegation headed by Paulo Conceição, Adviser to the Board of the Agricultural Development Support Fund, accompanied by representatives from Angola's ministries of agriculture, forestry, finance, industry, and trade.
The Angolan delegation sought to explore collaboration opportunities and ways to benefit from ABE's expertise in financing smallholder farmers and rural enterprises. Discussions also focused on the bank's initiatives to stimulate private sector participation in agricultural investment and its broader role in promoting rural development and inclusive economic growth.
The Angolan officials commended ABE's extensive experience and described the visit as an opportunity to gain practical insights into agricultural financing models and targeted loan programmes designed to serve small farmers. They highlighted ABE's legacy as one of Africa's oldest agricultural financing institutions and expressed hope to replicate similar approaches within Angola's own agricultural framework.
Abou El-Saud warmly welcomed the Angolan delegation, highlighting the longstanding relations between Egypt and Angola. He reaffirmed the bank's developmental mission, which aligns with Egypt's national strategy to harness agricultural resources and expand South-South cooperation.
He further affirmed ABE's readiness to exchange knowledge and best practices with both Serbian and Angolan counterparts, in line with Egypt's broader commitment to strengthening partnerships with friendly nations and contributing to sustainable development across Africa.

The forum concluded with an official session summarizing outcomes and future recommendations. In his opening address, Dr. Osama El-Gohary, Assistant to the Prime Minister and Head of IDSC, underscored Egypt's determination to deepen research collaboration and support South-South partnerships. He emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and academic dialogue in priority areas for BRICS countries. El-Gohary also outlined Egypt's efforts and initiatives across the forum's key discussion areas, highlighting how the country aims to leverage BRICS cooperation to further its national development goals. A key highlight was Egypt's establishment of a dedicated 'BRICS Unit' under the Cabinet, designed to coordinate strategies across government ministries, relevant agencies, and the private sector, accelerating Egypt's integration into BRICS frameworks. Egypt presented strategic directions aimed at enhancing its role in trade, investment, and finance, aligning with the targets of Egypt's Vision 2030. Discussions also tackled the opportunities and challenges of using local currencies in intra-BRICS trade, as well as innovative digital and financial tools to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Participants spotlighted prospects for cooperation in sustainable supply chains and sustainable trade, stressing the importance of aligning trade policies with climate commitments without compromising developmental priorities in the Global South. On the sidelines of the forum, IDSC engaged in a special session with the BRICS Think Tank Network for Finance (BTTNF), focusing on two joint research studies planned for this year. The first study will examine 'Credit Ratings and Development Finance among BRICS Countries: International Context and Egypt's Case Study,' while the second will explore 'Innovative Climate Finance Instruments.' During the closing session, El-Gohary emphasized the need to translate the forum's outcomes into practical policies that benefit Global South nations. The forum concluded with the launch of a preliminary report on cooperation mechanisms within BRICS, identifying over 180 cooperation frameworks among member states. The report reflects the commitment of BRICS nations—including Egypt—to promoting transparency and facilitating data exchange among national institutions. Notably, Egypt is participating in multiple cooperation initiatives across ten critical sectors, including agriculture, energy, education, economy, science, culture, labor, security, and social development, signaling the country's growing integration into BRICS institutional structures. Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly has instructed the technical secretariat of the BRICS Unit to translate the report into Arabic and coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant agencies to ensure Egypt maximizes the benefits of BRICS cooperation mechanisms. It is worth mentioning that IDSC recently joined the BRICS Think Tank Council (BTTC) and became an official member of the BRICS Think Tank Network for Finance (BTTNF) in 2024. Egypt to host G20 meeting for 1st time in September
CAIRO, June 28 (MENA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that Egypt will host and organize, for the first time, an official G20 meeting on food security in early September. According to a statement issued by the ministry, this development follows the outcomes of discussions held between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his South African counterpart Ronald Lamola. On the sidelines of the G20 Sherpa meeting, which took place in South Africa from June 25 to 27, Egypt's Presidential representative and Assistant FM For Regional and International Economic Affairs Ragy el Etreby finalized an agreement with the South African representative regarding Egypt's hosting of this official G20 gathering. Etreby stated that this will mark the first-ever G20 meeting to be hosted and organized by Egypt since the group's inception in 1999. Etreby noted that the meeting will focus on food security at both the regional and global levels, a priority issue for Egypt, African nations and the developing world at large. This topic is closely linked to key developmental challenges, including sustainable agriculture, localizing industry, boosting regional and international trade, enhancing infrastructure, technology transfer, and financing mechanisms, according to him.
