Mahesh Bhatt left Ghulam because of Aamir Khan, says Deepak Tijori: ‘Aamir ko nahi jhel sakta main'

Indian Express4 days ago
Aamir Khan got the moniker of Mr Perfectionist very early on his career and after associating with director Mahesh Bhatt for a couple of films, the two fell apart. Bhatt has previously blamed Aamir's perfectionism as a hindrance to his own process but things were very different when Bhatt abandoned his own film, Ghulam, because he just could not continue to work with Aamir.
Deepak Tijori, who was also a part of Ghulam, recently recalled this anecdote in a chat with Bollywood Bubble and shared that Mahesh Bhatt actually quit the film because he could not work with Aamir Khan. He recalled, 'I got to know that Bhatt saab left Ghulam. He said, 'Mere se nahi hoga, Aamir ko jhel nahi sakta main (I can't do this. Can't put up with Aamir).'' Deepak recalled that it was after this that Vikram Bhatt took over as the director, and at this point, the film had already been in the making for 2 years.

In an earlier chat with SCREEN, Mahesh Bhatt shared, 'I choose to walk away from it. I told Aamir, I didn't think movies meant so much to me that I would dedicate my entire life to it. It doesn't mean so much to me and I'd be lying if I say otherwise.' Until Ghulam, they had already worked together in Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi and Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke. In another chat with Radio Nasha, Mahesh shared that Aamir once spent 10 hours discussing his cap in Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi.
In an archival interview shared on the YouTube channel of Wild Films India, Mahesh had shared, 'He worked with me on Ghulam. That wasn't a pleasant experience for me. When a man is burdened by his greatness, that burden is shared by people around him. Economically, that is very difficult, especially if you're making movies with reasonable budgets.'
Aamir Khan was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, which released after the colossal failure of Laal Singh Chaddha. As per Sacnilk, the film has already earned over Rs 154 crore.

'Back in the day, Karan Johar… I don't know what he's like nowadays, loyalties shift very fast. He doesn't have any role for me in his films these days, even though they wouldn't make a film without me at one point. His father, Yash Johar, was one of my favourite producers. What a man, what a gem of a person! He'd call me up and say, 'Dekhiye Farida, hero ka role toh baad mein likha jaata hai, aapka role pehle likha jaata hai (We write your character even before we've decided where to go with the protagonist)',' said Jalal while talking to Bollywood Bubble. Anupam Kher criticises Diljit Dosanjh over Sardaar Ji 3 controversy: ‘I can't watch my sister's sindoor get destroyed in the name of art'

Diljit Dosanjh continues to remain in the spotlight as controversy brews over the casting of Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in his upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3. Diljit, who also serves as a producer on the film, is under fire for featuring a Pakistani artist at a time when cross-border cultural exchanges remain a sensitive issue in India. Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently weighed in on the matter, telling NDTV that while Diljit has the right to express himself freely, he personally would not have made the same choice. 'It's his fundamental right. He has full freedom to exercise his right and he should be given freedom to exercise it. I can say from my point of view that maybe I wouldn't do what he did,' Anupam said. He went on to use an analogy to explain his stance: 'I'd say, 'You slapped my father but you sing very well, you play very good tabla, so you come and perform at my house.' But I wouldn't be able to do that. I am not that great. I won't hit him back, but I won't give him the right… The rule that I practice at my home, I practice in my country. I am not that great that I could see my family get hit or see my sister's sindoor get destroyed for art. Those who can do so, they have all the freedom.' Speaking to Times Now, she said: 'I have said enough about these people who are… We need to have a sentiment of nation building. Everybody is a stakeholder. Why don't we have that sentiment? Why is one Diljit having his own path? Why are our cricketers having their own friendships?' For those unfamiliar with the controversy, Sardaar Ji 3 features Hania Aamir in a prominent role. Her inclusion has sparked outrage as it comes in the wake of the 2024 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Since the 2016 Uri attack, Indian film bodies have enforced an unofficial ban on Pakistani artists working in Indian productions. As a result of the casting, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reportedly imposed a ban on Diljit Dosanjh, barring him from participating in Indian film projects. Despite this, the actor is currently shooting for his next film Border 2 and is reportedly in discussions for future projects. In response to the backlash, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have stated that the film was shot before the Pahalgam attack and assured that they will refrain from working with Pakistani actors in the future.
