She said this is also supported by the shared history of both countries and a strong belief in the value of regional cooperation.
Advertisement 'The friendship between Australia and Malaysia is built on our shared history and the close relationships between our peoples,' she said in a 1-minute and 25-second video posted on her official Instagram account, @senatorpennywong. The video includes footage from her childhood in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, as well as her appearance at the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre last week. Wong added that this year marks the 70th anniversary of Australia-Malaysia diplomatic relations, and she expressed support for Malaysia's role as Asean Chair. 'We will continue working with our regional partners to support a shared vision for a more secure, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific, in which Asean plays a central role,' she said. Wong, who was born in Malaysia and raised in Australia, said her life story reflects the reality of modern Australian society. 'My story, like that of many Australians, is a modern Australian story — almost half of all Australians were born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas,' she said. She emphasised that this multicultural background is one of Australia's key strengths in building strong international relationships, including with Southeast Asian nations. He said that among the key elements introduced by the New Zealand government — and potentially adaptable in Malaysia — are land ownership rights, more inclusive access to education, and the establishment of dedicated financing agencies to support indigenous entrepreneurship. 'This Act 134 is 71 years old, and many aspects need to be re-examined. Here in New Zealand, we are not only looking at land ownership issues, but also rights in education, business and financing,' he said at a press conference at Rumah Malaysia here today. However, Ahmad Zahid stressed that New Zealand's approach could not be adopted wholesale, as it must be adapted to suit the needs and realities of the Orang Asli community in Malaysia. Sabah to host agro event again after 30 years

TAWAU: This year's National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) celebration is especially significant as it will be held in Sabah for the first time in 30 years – the last time being in 1995. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the State has been chosen as the host of the event, which will take place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu from Aug 1 to 3, and is expected to be officiated by the Prime Minister. Advertisement 'This year marks the 50th anniversary of HPPNK with the theme 'Kudrat Kami Menjamin Pertiwi' (Our Strength Secures the Nation),' he said during a press conference after launching the Road To HPPNK @ Tawau event at Dataran Tawau Municipal Council (MPT), last Saturday. He said the two-day pre-event in Tawau is expected to attract some 20,000 visitors, generate an estimated RM100,000 in transactions, and feature seven exhibition booths, 12 Agro Madani sales stalls and 40 entrepreneur booths. Arthur said that the event serves as a platform to bring the government closer to Sabah's agro community – especially farmers, breeders, and fishermen who are crucial to ensuring national food security. Tawau was chosen as the first stop for the roadshow due to its strong potential in agriculture, fisheries and livestock sectors, as well as its strategic location, which allows easy access for visitors from Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak. In conjunction with the launch, Arthur presented eight mock cheques, including RM921,600 for the 2025 Fishermen's Cost of Living Allowance (ESHN) in Tawau; RM300,000 for B40 Fishermen Housing Aid in Tawau; RM50,000 for the Community Fishermen Facilities Development Grant in Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut, Tawau; RM34,000 for Fishing Equipment Assistance (Touch Point) in Tawau; and allocations under the Small and Medium Machinery Ownership Programme for PPK Kalabakan (RM26,882.80), PPK Tawau (RM9,289.70), PPK Kunak (RM39,294.80), and PPK Lahad Datu (RM9,954). Earlier, Arthur also flagged off the Road To HPPNK 2025 Motor Convoy, which will travel across several districts in Sabah including Sandakan, Nabawan, Keningau, Papar, and Kota Kinabalu before culminating at SICC. PKR: Matunggong water woe happening too long

KUDAT: PKR Kota Marudu branch head Sazalye Donol urged the authorities to promptly resolve the prolonged water supply disruptions affecting several villages in the Matunggong area. He said several villages had been experiencing disruptions and shortages for nearly two weeks, causing residents to face difficulties in carrying out their daily activities. Advertisement He said despite repeated complaints, there's still no real solution from the authorities to ease the hardship faced by the local community. 'This issue has been going on for far too long. It keeps happening over and over, and there's still no real fix. In the end, it's the villagers who suffer the most, forced to live with the stress and burden of an unreliable water supply.' 'What worries us even more is that the water coming into the homes is cloudy and unsafe, making it really hard for families to use it for their daily needs,' he said in a statement here, on July 15. Sazalye who is also Sabah PKR Secretary urged the Matunggong and Kudat District Water Departments, to provide an official explanation for the cause of the water supply disruption. He said immediate and proactive measures are necessary to address the issue, including provision of alternative water supplies such as regular tanker deliveries. He said a long-term solution is necessary to ensure the sustainability of clean water supply to all residents, as water is a basic necessity that cannot be taken lightly. 'This is not a political issue. It concerns the basic needs of the people.
