Budameru disaster due to failure of NDA

Hans India5 days ago
Vijayawada: Former MLA and Vijayawada Central Constituency Coordinator Malladi Vishnu alleged Budameru flood disaster in September 2024 was a major failure of the current NDA administration.
He said no leader held even a single review meeting before the floods struck and devastated the Vijayawada city and lakhs of people suffered. Vishnu responded to the comments made by P Narayana, the minister for municipal administration and urban development. Narayana alleged that the YSRCP administration was held responsible for the Budameru disaster. During his visit to the city, Narayana on Saturday blamed the YSRCP government.
YSRCP leader Malladi Vishnu on Sunday responded to the allegations of minister Narayana. Vishnu said lakhs of people suffered due to Budameru floods. He said despite Rs 500 crore received by Chief Minister's Relief Fund, only minimal aid reached victims, and even the District Collector's office did not respond to public grievances, he alleged. Malladi Vishnu made these comments during the YSRCP meeting titled 'Babu Surety and Fraud Guarantee' held on Sunday in 64th Division of the Central Constituency under the supervision of Division Corporator Yerragorla Tirupatamma.
Vishnu said the YSRCP launched a massive campaign against the NDA rule and its failure to deliver Super Six promises made to the people. Malladi Vishnu stated that the campaign has already been taken across three clusters in the Central Constituency and will now extend to all divisions.
'Chandrababu Naidu misled the public with fraudulent promises before the elections and came to power. Now, their leaders have no courage to face the people or explain what they've accomplished,' he said.
He said that not a single one of the 'Super Six' schemes promised by Naidu before the elections has been implemented. He said the NDA government has borrowed over Rs 2 lakh crore loans in just one year, yet it's only notable act has been raising pensions to Rs.4,000, Vishnu claimed. He criticised the government for increasing public debt by 15.61 percent in one year, calling it 'unsustainable and irresponsible.'

Govt considering subsidy for agri labour: CM

Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that state govt, under its agriculture policy, is considering providing a subsidy to engage labour to cultivate fields in the state. Sawant noted that some people in Goa cultivate their fields manually, and govt — under the Amrit Kaal Agriculture Policy — will consider offering the labour subsidy to help them. Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said that harvesting machines are charged on a per-hour basis in his constituency, and it requires at least one and a half hours to complete work in a field. Farmers have to pay an additional amount for the machines, he said. Naik said that in some areas of Saligao, machines cannot be used, and manual cultivation is necessary. As for harvesting machines, Naik demanded that govt increase the subsidy to cover usage for one and a half hours. Agriculture minister Ravi Naik said that he will increase the subsidy for longer machine use. He said state govt will provide a subsidy to grow mancurad trees in the state. 'We provide Rs 600 to dig a pit to plant one of these mango trees,' he said. Sawant said that Goans do not grow mancurad mangoes and should start doing so to increase mango production in the state. He said that the mancurad mangoes we eat today are from the trees planted by our ancestors. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Kentucky: These Companies Are Overcharging You for Car Insurance OTTO Insurance Read Now Undo 'Young people should take up agriculture in the state,' he said. Sawant said that a Rs 2 lakh per hectare subsidy is provided to mancurad mango growers in rocky areas. 'We are in the final stages of getting the GI tag for the mancurad mango,' he said. The chief minister said govt policy is clear about saving land for agriculture. Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas said that rice cultivation has not increased in the state. Viegas said, 'Providing a Rs 2 per kg subsidy is not a practical solution.' Sawant said that govt provides subsidies for plantation, harvesting, and irrigation and has decided to set up a rice mill in the state so that farmers do not have to travel to other states. 'We provide the additional Rs 2 per kg support price on top of the state govt subsidy,' the chief minister said. Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar said that when he sells coconuts for Rs 30 per piece, the department provides a subsidy of Rs 15. He asked if the subsidy would be increased. The agriculture minister said he will consider doing so.

Ensure ashram-like compassionate atmosphere in jails: Gujarat HC to authority

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Friday directed the Inspector General of Prisons to ensure that "a friendly and compassionate atmosphere, akin to an 'ashram' is required to be created within the jails". Justice H D Suthar, while ordering the release of a convict detained in Vadodara's central jail for over two months longer than his punishment and awarding him compensation, stated in his order, "It is hoped that the jail authorities will treat all inmates with humanity and sensitivity, following the Model Jail Manual, and do the needful for the rehabilitation of convicts and prisoners. The Inspector General of Prisons shall ensure that a friendly and compassionate atmosphere, akin to 'ashram,' is required to be created within the jails. " Expressing this hope, the judge quoted Mahatma Gandhi's statement, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." This happened in a petition filed by a prisoner, Raju Ninama, through advocate A A Zabuawala, who complained that his client was not released from prison even after he served his sentence. The HC summoned the jail officials, including the superintendent Usha Rada, and reprimanded them for this lapse. It ordered the immediate release of the prisoner and said, "In this case, the jail authorities, instead of following the clear directions in the warrant, unilaterally reduced the set-off period, resulting in the petitioner undergoing an additional 2 months and 8 days of illegal detention, which amounts to wrongful confinement and a violation of Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India. Such wrongful confinement, stemming from arbitrariness and highhandedness, reflects a complete disregard for the fundamental rights of the convict." The HC further stated, "Article 51A of the Constitution enjoins all citizens to show compassion toward living beings. Jail inmates, although convicts, do not lose their fundamental rights. Despite repeated opportunities, the authorities failed to act with empathy and continued with their illegal and arbitrary approach." The HC directed all judicial officers, who are jail visitors, that "…they must verify jail records to ensure that no undertrial prisoners or convicts remain illegally detained even for a minute beyond the completion of their sentence or granting of bail." Further, the authorities are directed "to undertake a comprehensive exercise to recalculate the set-off period for all convicts as per their respective conviction warrants. After due verification, updated admission cards/tickets of convicts and relevant jail records shall be prepared in accordance with the circular dated Aug 1, 2025."

Centre clears Itarsi-Nagpur fourth rail line project

Bhopal: The PM Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the Itarsi-Nagpur fourth railway line project. CM Mohan Yadav expressed gratitude to Modi for sanctioning this initiative. The approved railway line, stretching approximately 297 km between Itarsi and Nagpur, will strengthen railway connectivity in central India. According to Yadav, this development will benefit Narmadapuram, Betul, Pandhurna (Madhya Pradesh), and Nagpur (Maharashtra). The project will facilitate easier access for pilgrims travelling to the Jyotirlinga temples from Mahakaleshwar, Omkareshwar to Srisailam and Rameswaram. The 339 km track will encompass 37 stations, 36 major bridges, 415 minor bridges, 2 road over bridges, 74 road under bridges, four tunnels, and two rail over bridges. The connection will link four Jyotirlinga temples: Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh, Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, and Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, enhancing the pilgrim experience and regional tourism. At Nagpur, the fourth line will join the Mumbai-Howrah High Density Network, complementing the existing double line and partially finished third line. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Hanoi: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo The Itarsi-Nagpur section experiences significant congestion, especially in the Ghat section (Maramjhiri-Dharakhoh). This addition aims to increase capacity, decrease delays, and improve train frequency, supporting National Infrastructure Pipeline and Gati Shakti initiatives. The ongoing third line construction, valued at Rs 2,525.73 crore, includes 27 stations, 361 bridges/culverts, and four tunnels covering 1.4 km in the Ghat section. The fourth line's implementation may require land acquisition from 40 villages in Betul district, similar to the 16.036 hectares acquired from 290 farmers for the third line. The railway line will establish improved transport connections across significant districts, benefiting passenger and freight services. Regional industries will gain from enhanced logistics capabilities. The infrastructure will incorporate contemporary signalling systems and safety protocols. The construction phase will create substantial employment opportunities, continuing through operational stages.
