SIBU (June 24): The upcoming iconic Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) will feature an arch designed with three simple villages representing Chinese, Malay-Melanau, and Dayak cultures, said organising chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.
He said the path beneath the arch will lead directly to the marquee tent in front of main stage.
'This year's arch concept differs from that of previous years. It signifies the strong racial harmony and unity among Sarawakians of diverse backgrounds. That has always been Sarawak's strength ― unity in diversity.
'That is why the structures are built close to each other,' he told The Borneo Post when asked about the design concept for this year's arch at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1.

The 21st edition of BCF will be held from July 3 to 12 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1 and 2 here.
The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, is expected to officiate the opening ceremony on July 4, while Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will be the guest of honour for the closing ceremony on July 12.
On the arch construction, Mohammed Abdullah, who is also Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman, said work began a few days ago and is expected to be completed before July.
Another anticipated attraction at BCF 2025 is the towering 'itut', the Melanau traditional giant swing, located at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang.
Last year, the 'itut' stood at 46-feet tall and was a major draw among both locals and visitors.

A musical with heart makes its debut
Producer and performer Terry Ong (far left), executive producer and actor KK Wong, scriptwriter and director Ryon Lee and executive producer Lai Cheng came together for a simple yet grand launch ceremony of Gou Li Hao Xi — a landmark original musical in Malaysia's Chinese entertainment scene. KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese-language entertainment industry is set to welcome a landmark theatrical event with the debut of Gou Li Hao Xi, an original large-scale musical unlike any before. Helmed by KK Wong, this production brings together a celebrated ensemble cast to explore the topic of mental health in a way that is uplifting, accessible and deeply human. Blending moving melodies, dynamic choreography and compelling storytelling, Gou Li Hao Xi is more than just a stage performance — it is a timely and thoughtful response to the rising tide of emotional distress in modern society. The production seeks to raise awareness around issues such as anxiety, depression and burnout, which the World Health Organization has identified as some of the leading global health burdens. Yet, within many Asian communities, these emotional challenges remain stigmatised or unspoken. Courageously confronting these realities, Gou Li Hao Xi adopts a bright, positive tone — presenting difficult topics through a musical format that offers lightness and hope. At its core, the production delivers a simple yet powerful message: 'Take the first step and love will be there — every day is a new beginning.' It is a message of empathy and encouragement for anyone navigating emotional hardship. Gou Li Hao Xi is Wong's brand-new 2025 production and his first undertaking as executive producer. Not only does it feature Terry Ong, in the dual role of producer and cast member, it also marks director Ryon Lee's poignant return to the stage after a 15-year absence. The musical direction is helmed by renowned husband-and-wife duo Jiahui Wu and Chan Yi Yi, breathing new life into the production. Every song and every dance step deliver a message of encouragement, a gesture of comfort and a ray of light shining through the darkness. 'At a time when society is increasingly burdened by anxiety and emotional fatigue, we need a meaningful production that can both entertain and heal,' said Wong. 'Gou Li Hao Xi explores themes of depression and emotional health in a sincere yet accessible way. Through the expressive power of musical theatre, we hope to bring audiences closer together—with more understanding, empathy and hope.' In a gesture of social commitment, part of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Life Line Association Malaysia, a national mental health support hotline. The production aims to not only start meaningful conversations, but to also offer tangible support to those in need. Taiwanese girl group S.H.E reunite – for Hebe Tien's concert
Hebe Tien (centre) shared a photo with Ella Chen (left) and Selina Jen on social media on June 26. Photo: Hebe Tien/Instagram Taiwanese girl group S.H.E is back together, though only in support for member Hebe Tien's concert. Tien, 42, is on a Live In Life tour in Taiwan, where she is playing at small, scenic locations on the island. She performed at the Outdoor Theatre of National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts (Weiwuying) on June 21 and 22. The singer posted several throwback photos of her Kaohsiung shows on social media on June 26. They included one of her with bandmates Ella Chen, 44, and Selina Jen, 43. Both Chen and Jen wore the official white T-shirts of the concert. That photo drew the most number of 'likes' – more than 1,700 – on Facebook, compared with fewer than 400 for the other photos. Tien also posted photos of Chen and Jen entering the venue together. 'The city of Kaohsiung has added different stories to my life, and made me deeply understand the uncertainties of life,' Tien wrote in Chinese on June 26. 'It has also taught me to deeply cherish the daily life of being able to sing safely and healthily.' 'Thank you, Kaohsiung, for your acceptance and patience, and thank you to my sisters who have been loving and supporting me all the way, and to the friends who came and cheered for me. Kaohsiung is very hot, not just due to the temperature, but also due to everyone's passionate love,' she added. In September 2022, Tien had to postpone her concerts at Kaohsiung Arena for a week after she came down with a bad bout of flu. She then had to cancel her third and fourth shows due to safety concerns following an earthquake in south-eastern Taiwan. Formed in 2001, S.H.E left its long-time label HIM International Music in 2018, with the three singers setting up their own management agencies. They said they were not disbanding despite going solo. The group's last studio album was 2012's Blossomy . Tien released her fifth studio album, Time Will Tell , in 2020. It nabbed three awards at Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards in 2021, including for Best Female Singer (Mandarin). Meanwhile, Chen took part in reality shows such as Ride The Wind 2023 , where she emerged the winner, and acted in dramas such as Dr Lifesaver (2023 to 2024) and Us Without Sex (2024). She released her second studio album, Bad Habits , in 2024. Jen starred in her first horror movie Funeral (2022) and released her second mini-album, My Own Beauty , in 2022. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
