Oil tycoon linked to KGB mysteriously falls to his death in Russia
Transneft vice-president Andrey Badalov, 62, is said to have fallen from the penthouse of the luxury high rise where in lived in Moscow.
'Badalov's body was found under the windows of an [apartment building] on Rublevskoye Highway,' a source told TASS.
They said investigators were working at the scene.
Transneft is Russia's state oil pipeline monopoly which is run by former KGB spy, Nikolai Tokarev, 74, who served with Vladimir Putin, 72, in Germany in the Cold War.
Badalov had studied at the General Staff Academy of the Armed Forces, which trains high-level officers and state managers.
Several executives linked to the oil and gas industries have died mysteriously since Putin launched his attack on Ukraine in 2022.
They are usually described by Russian authorities as suicides, but doubts have been raised over several cases.
In a sarcastic post online, Ukrainian journalist Denis Kazansky wrote: 'Top managers of YUKOS and Lukoil have already fallen out of windows before.
'What are you laughing at? They just fall out of windows themselves.
'Russian oil workers have this professional deformity. As soon as they approach the windows, their legs immediately give way.'
In 2022, Ravil Maganov, chairman of Lukoil, Russia's second-largest oil company, died when hefell from a sixth floor window at Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow, also known as the Kremlin Clinic.
On the same morning, Putin – who had earlier decorated Maganov, 67, with a top honour – visited the hospital to pay his final respects to Mikhail Gorbachev, the last Soviet leader, who had died the same week. More Trending
In 2023, leading war official Marina Yankina, 58, head of the financial support department of the Russian Defence Ministry's Western Military District, was found dead after falling 160ft from a 16th-floor window in St. Petersburg.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.
Former oil company vice president Mikhail Rogachev, 64, died after falling from his tenth-floor apartment in Moscow in October 2024.
He had been a senior executive at Yukos, an oil company dismembered by Putin and his cronies.

Helen has tried everything under the sun to stop his thieving habits including keeping him indoors to leaving out clothes at home for him to steal. She said: 'He only wants stuff that he shouldn't have.' She has no choice now but to post photos of his loot on a local Facebook page, along with an apology and her address. A woman recognised her pink and purple underpants, and a boy was reunited with his missing sports jersey. Decapitated head wrapped in tin foil handed in to police
The missing head of a man whose body was found dumped on a street in Lisbon has been handed in to police. A student turned up at the city's São José Hospital yesterday lunchtime with the severed head in his rucksack. He is due in court later charged with aggravated homicide and desecration of a corpse. The rest of the body was found in a narrow side streat in the city 24 hours before. Tests have confirmed that the head and body are those of the same person. No motive has yet emerged for the crime. The student, who is reported to have confessed to the murder, is said to have told police he had only met the victim hours before he died. Police video footage of the operation shows the hybrid motor parked up among weeds and bushes outside the garage. Officers also discovered 67 hybrid and heavily adapted vehicles on the site either with illegal registration documents or unroadworthy bodywork changes. A police spokesperson said: "Given the nature of the site, special attention was paid to vehicles." The Bentley is believed to be modelled on an earlier "Ultratank" built by Russian petrolhead Konstantin Zarutskiy for his YouTube channel AcademeG. His prototype, with higher tracks, could reach 81 mph, slower than the Bentley's original 200mph but still faster than any other tracked vehicle. This isn't the first time a luxury motor has been seized in a police crackdown on crime. In the UK too, police are frequently confiscating supercars to improve safety in the capital. Last year, Scotland Yard confiscated vehicles including a McClaren, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and Lamborghini. I bought £13,000 Bentley only to learn it was once owned by legendary TV host of classic 1980s game show Westminster local residents complained about cars driving poorly or at high-speed. So the force worked with Westminster City Council and the Motor Insurers' Bureau to remove nuisance drivers who drive around the area more frequently in the summer months. The operation launched on the evening of August 2 and ran across that weekend seizing £6million worth of cars. Officers also made five arrests including for insurance fraud, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not using a seatbelt and driving without due care. Metropolitan Police Special Inspector Geoff Tatman said: "The Met is working to put communities first - listening to and tackling their concerns. "This hugely successful operation has proved we are dealing with those crimes, such as anti-social driving, that is causing most distress to residents and tourists. "This brilliant partnership work between the Met's Vehicle Enforcement Team, Motor Insurers' Bureau and Westminster City Council demonstrates to Londoners we are doubling down on crime on the roads. "It's also testament to the hard work and dedication of the Met Special Constables – volunteer police officers - that play a vital role in our mission to make London safer and kindly give up their free time help serve the community."
