Teacher accused of molesting disabled 16-year-old student
Rembau police chief Supt Hasani Hussain said the student, who is enrolled in the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI), lodged a report at 5.15 pm yesterday, alleging she was molested by a 36-year-old male teacher around 10.40 am.
Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred after the student had completed a cross-country run and was experiencing leg pain.
'According to the student, the teacher massaged her legs, starting from the soles of her feet to her calves and then to her thighs. During this, she felt the teacher had touched a sensitive area,' Hasani said in a statement today.
He said the student initially confided in a friend and later informed another teacher about the incident on June 30.
The suspect, detained around 10 pm last night, has denied the allegation. The case is still under investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. — Bernama

On May 28 last year, the court entered a judgment in default against Ku Hilmie after he failed to appear in the proceedings, with the question of damages left for later assessment. Rosmah filed the lawsuit on September 19, 2023, through law firm Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, over a video Ku Hilmie posted on TikTok on March 2, 2023. She claimed the video contained defamatory remarks linking her to sinful behaviour, bomoh practices, polytheism, and Satan, and suggested she needed to repent. Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said the post damaged her reputation and exposed her to public ridicule, affecting her status as a public figure and charity patron. She sought general, aggravated, and exemplary damages, as well as an injunction to stop Ku Hilmie or his representatives from reposting the content. The injunction request was later withdrawn due to the defendant's continued absence from proceedings.

Round-trip shoplifts? Irishman nabbed at Singapore's Changi Airport over two alleged duty-free perfume thefts in transit
SINGAPORE, July 8 — An Irishman who allegedly shoplifted twice at Singapore's Changi Airport has been arrested and is expected to be charged in court today, the police said in a statement yesterday. The 43-year-old was first linked to a theft reported on June 9 at a The Shilla Cosmetics and Perfumes outlet in the transit area of Terminal 1. Preliminary investigations revealed that on June 8, he had allegedly taken two bottles of perfume worth S$491.70 (RM1,631.66) from the display shelf without paying. The theft was discovered during a routine stocktake by staff. By the time officers from the Airport Police Division identified the suspect, he had already left Singapore. However, on June 13, he was arrested when he transited through Changi Airport again for another flight. Further checks uncovered that he had allegedly stolen another bottle of perfume, worth S$167, from a different outlet of the same retailer in the transit area earlier that day — before he was caught. Police recovered two of the three bottles of perfume from the man. If convicted of theft, he faces up to seven years in jail, a fine, or both.

Not so ‘lucky customer' after all: Terengganu kindergarten teacher loses over RM108,000 after pawning jewellery in online job scam
KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — A kindergarten teacher lost RM108,703 — a sum that included proceeds from pawning her jewellery and borrowing from friends — after falling victim to a non-existent online job scam. The 32-year-old woman realised she had been scammed and lodged a police report at the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters at 2pm yesterday, according to a report published by Kosmo! Online. Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor, said the incident began when the victim was contacted by the scammer on June 20, claiming she was a 'lucky customer' and entitled to win a prize. 'She received a parcel containing household items on June 28 and was then asked to provide feedback. 'The suspect also requested her e-wallet account number to deposit a so-called RM8 credit before assigning her tasks such as clicking on certain links that were claimed to lead to other rewards,' he said when contacted by Kosmo! today. Azli said that between July 1 and 3, the teacher made several transfers to the scammer, supposedly as part of the tasks and for penalties due to delays in completing them. He added that last Friday, the victim was instructed to transfer an additional RM75,000. 'In desperation, the victim sought urgent loans through two agents who provided links. She then made deposit payments into five different bank accounts, but the loan money was never disbursed,' he said.
