Fake Bihar Poll Officials Ask Woman To Take Off Chain For Pic, Flee With It
Two men, posing as poll officers involved in the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, visited the house of an elderly couple in Saran district and allegedly decamped with a gold chain, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place in Nerua village in the Marhaura police station area on Wednesday, they said.
"According to the victim, she was asked to take off her chain for a photograph. Afterwards, she was told to show her Aadhaar card. Her husband, who was in another room, grew suspicious when he heard that his wife was being asked to pose for the photograph," Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar (SHO) told PTI.
"He then accompanied his wife to the front room and found that the gold chain, kept under a mattress nearby, was missing. The two persons had also fled," he said.
After the incident was reported to the police, a team visited the victim's house, the SHO said.
"We have asked the family to file a formal complaint so that an investigation can be initiated. We are also examining CCTV footage of the area to identify the accused," he said.

‘Killed elderly couple, accused then hid in old age home': Police chargesheet in Northwest Delhi murders
To hide from the police after he allegedly robbed and murdered an elderly couple at Northwest Delhi's Kohat Enclave in March, the main accused posed as a caregiver with a diploma in medical care and joined an old age home-cum-medical centre in Dwarka as an employee, police have said. The accused, Deepak, made a fake Aadhaar card and posed as one Pankaj, said an officer. 'He posed as a caregiver, claiming to hold a diploma in medical care, and was allowed inside the old age home under the false identity of Pankaj.' A chargesheet in the case was filed by the police before the court on June 13. On March 18, the decomposing bodies of Mohinder Singh Talwar (72) and his wife Daljeet Kaur (70) were found at their flat. While Mohinder was strangled to death, Daljeet had injuries on her head and strangulation marks on her neck. Later that day, the couple's former attendant, Ravi Kishore (37), was arrested. Deepak, the main suspect and the couple's current attendant – who had joined work only a few days before the deaths – was arrested from the old age home on March 22. According to police, Ravi, who had recommended Deepak's name to the couple, planned to rob them – he knew where the safe was, along with the other jewels and cash – and divide the proceeds between him and Deepak without the two having the meet. Police, citing the chargesheet, alleged that Deepak was to drop off half the share of the stolen goods at the residence of Ravi's in-laws. An officer, citing the chargesheet, said Ravi's plan went awry when he learnt that Deepak did not deposit the money as planned. 'Deepak felt he didn't find as much money in the flat as was promised by Ravi. So, he kept it all for himself,' the officer added. Ravi had told the police that he used to work for the couple till January, before he was asked to leave as Mohinder, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's, was showing signs of improvement. However, in March, the couple reached out to him, asking him to return to work. Police have claimed in the chargesheet that Ravi then decided to plan the robbery, and recommended Deepak's name instead of returning to work. 'The chargesheet mentions that Ravi was aware that the police would reach out to him initially. He planned to deflect their attention till Deepak found a safe hideout,' said an officer. Further, police said, the chargesheet has alleged that Deepak didn't kill the couple impulsively, but had planned the murder. 'His actions were not impulsive… it was a calculated and cold-blooded decision to eliminate risk,' the officer said. Deepak was arrested when the driver of the autorickshaw he had boarded heard him talking on the phone, discussing his plan to flee to Patna after hiding in the old age home for a few days. 'The owner of the autorickshaw had dropped the accused at Dwarka Mor. He had overheard the accused saying he was going to stay at a nearby old age home,' a police officer had said earlier. The Talwars owned readymade garment shops in Paschim Vihar and Kamla Nagar. They are now being handled by their sons, Charanpreet and Manpreet. They also have a daughter, Gurleen Kaur.

2 PTIs, aide held for using fake degrees to get govt jobs
Jaipur: Banswara police arrested three men Friday, including two govt physical training instructors (PTIs), in connection with a fake degree racket. Two of the accused, Manish Kumar and Kamlesh Patidar, secured govt jobs as PTIs using forged degrees, while the third, Pramod Kumar, allegedly helped arrange the fake certificates. The case came to light after the police launched an investigation into complaints of fake degrees being used. A senior police officer was tasked with investigating the matter. He filed a report pointing to irregularities in PTI recruitment in 2018 and 2022. SP Banswara, Harish Agarwalla, said all three were arrested after verification confirmed that the degrees were fake. Manish Kumar, a resident of Partapur in Banswara, submitted a forged BPEd (Bachelor of Physical Education) degree allegedly issued by Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, in Chhattisgarh in 2012 to apply for the PTI recruitment exam. He passed the exam conducted by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board and was appointed as a PTI at Govt Upper Primary School, Napla, in Chhoti Sarwan Panchayat Samiti in the district. Kamlesh Patidar, from Bodia village under Garhi Police Station, also used a fake 2013 degree from the same university to apply in the 2018 recruitment. He was selected and posted as a PTI at Govt Upper Primary School, Garadiya, in the Sajjangarh Panchayat Samiti area. During interrogation, both Manish and Kamlesh admitted they obtained the fake degrees through known contacts. One of those contacts was identified as Pramod Kumar Modi, 36, a resident of Gadhi. Pramod did not apply for a govt job himself but confessed to helping arrange the fake BPEd degrees for others through a known source. Verification by Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University confirmed that the degrees submitted by Manish and Kamlesh were not issued by the university and did not match official records. All three accused were arrested and are currently being interrogated further.
