Sitaare Zameen Par worldwide box office collection day 1: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan made his return to the screen after three years with Sitaare Zameen Par, following the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha. Despite receiving positive reviews from audiences, the film had a slow start at the box office. It has surpassed the collection of Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 but still trails behind Salman Khan's Sikandar. (Also Read: Salman Khan jokes Aamir Khan first offered Sitaare Zameen Par to him: 'Tab iska paperwork pe kaam chal raha tha') Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par takes a slow start at the box office.
According to Sacnilk, Aamir's film earned ₹ 10.7 crore on day one of its release at the domestic box office. With ₹ 12.85 crore India gross and ₹ 7.15 crore overseas collection, the film's total worldwide collection now stands at ₹ 20 crore. The numbers are slightly underwhelming for an Aamir Khan film, especially considering his last release Laal Singh Chaddha, which failed commercially, still opened to ₹ 11.70 crore in India and ₹ 23.85 crore worldwide.
However, the film has managed to surpass the day one haul of Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday's film Kesari Chapter 2, which collected ₹ 15 crore worldwide. Yet, it fell behind Ajay Devgn's Raid 2 ( ₹ 25.70 crore) and Salman Khan's Sikandar ( ₹ 26 crore). The film is expected to see a jump in numbers owing to the positive audience response. About Sitaare Zameen Par
The sports comedy-drama is a spiritual sequel to Aamir's 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film stars Aamir as a basketball coach who is tasked with training a team of neurodivergent people for a tournament. The film also features Genelia D'Souza.
The film introduces 10 debutant actors: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Ashish Pendse, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar, and Aayush Bhansali. The ensemble cast also includes Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal.
An excerpt from Hindustan Times' review of Sitaare Zameen Par reads, 'The first half is slow and tests your patience. Aamir being angry with his new role, getting to know his special team, then struggling in his marriage with Sunita (Genelia Deshmukh) — there's a lot that eats up screen time and feels like lazy writing. There's the occasional laugh — pretty much what one saw in the trailer. The intermission point too isn't on a high. You settle into your seats after this, ready for a yawn-fest. But this is exactly when Sitaare Zameen Par miraculously finds its groove.'

Kannappa box office collection day 1: Vishnu Manchu scores the biggest opening of his career thanks to Prabhas, Akshay Kumar; film earns Rs 9 crore

The much-anticipated mythological devotional film Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, has finally hit theatres, and it's off to an impressive start at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned an estimated Rs 9 crore across all languages in India on its opening day. It also marks the highest-ever opening for a Vishnu Manchu film. Kannappa recorded an overall Telugu occupancy of 55.89% on Friday. Morning shows began on a promising note with 50.55% occupancy, which steadily increased throughout the day, rising to 52.81% for evening shows and peaking at 69.87% during night shows. Hyderabad and Bengaluru reported the highest number of screenings, as well as the highest occupancy rates for the film. Meanwhile, in the Hindi belt, Delhi topped the charts in terms of both the number of shows and audience presence, contributing to an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.56%. The Kannada and Malayalam versions saw occupancy rates of 13.81% and 7.20%, respectively. This strong debut is particularly notable when compared to Vishnu Manchu's previous release Ginna, which managed just Rs 0.2 crore on its opening day and went on to become a box office failure. The mythological epic also features a star-studded cast, including Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal, an added draw for the masses. Kannappa is based on the tale of devotion and sacrifice, weaving mythology, emotion, and stunning visuals into a narrative that resonates deeply with devotees of Lord Shiva and fans of grand-scale storytelling. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, Kannappa is shaping up to be a significant box office contender in the mythological genre. However, it has received fairly negative reviews from the critics. It remains to be seen how much Kannappa will earn over its first weekend, amid growing competition from older releases like Sitaare Zameen Par, which is still going strong, and new releases like Brad Pitt's F1: The Movie.

Rupali Ganguly says Diljit Dosanjh 'fails to recognise responsibilities towards country', miffed at his Border 2 casting

Jun 28, 2025 10:41 AM IST Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been facing criticism since he announced that Pakistani artist Hania Aamir will star in his upcoming movie Sardaar Ji 3. Diljit made the announcement against the backdrop of continuing tensions between India and Pakistan. Now, actor Rupali Ganguly has also criticised Diljit, though she didn't name him, and talked about his upcoming film Border 2. Rupali Ganguly talked about Diljit Dosanjh and Border 2. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rupali said that it's "truly disheartening and frustrating" for her to "see an actor in Border2 who fails to recognise his responsibilities towards the country". She wrote, "Border was a film that evoked deep patriotism among the people of our nation. It's truly disheartening and frustrating to see an actor in #Border2 who fails to recognise his responsibilities towards the country." Though Rupali hailed the Border 2 team for dropping Diljit from the film, there are no confirmed reports about it. "Kudos to the makers for showing clarity and conviction by dropping that actor from film. A film that celebrates our soldiers and national pride must reflect that spirit in every aspect. No room for confused loyalties in a film about national pride," she tweeted. Is Diljit Dosanjh being dropped from Border 2? Several reports emerged saying that the makers of Border 2 are likely to drop Diljit from the film and that he would be replaced by actor-singer Ammy Virk. However, a highly-placed source close to the production told Hindustan Times, 'There is no plan to replace or remove Diljit from Border 2. His casting was confirmed nearly nine months ago, long before the recent unfortunate incidents. Nearly half the film has already been shot, and any replacement at this stage would be logistically unfeasible." About Border 2 Border 2 is the upcoming sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border and has a powerhouse production team, including Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film is directed by Anurag Singh. Diljit had joined the project in September last year and will feature alongside Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty.
