PETALING JAYA : Barisan Nasional has reappointed Zambry Abdul Kadir as its secretary-general and Johari Ghani as treasurer-general at a meeting today.
In a statement, Zambry said the appointments were made in accordance with clauses 8.3(D) and 8.3(E) of BN's constitution.
He said today's meeting also reaffirmed the component members' commitment to remain united under the BN umbrella.
Zambry was first appointed BN secretary-general in 2021, replacing Ahmad Maslan. Johari, meanwhile, was first appointed BN treasurer-general in 2023, replacing Hishammuddin Hussein.
BN also reiterated that it was fully prepared to face the upcoming Sabah state election, which is widely expected to be held soon.
The state assembly's term will expire on Nov 11. Elections must be held within 60 days of the assembly being dissolved.
'The political stability of Sabah is key to strengthening Sabahans' security, economic progress and wellbeing,' said Zambry.
BN and Pakatan Harapan earlier announced an alliance for the Sabah polls, prompting Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to threaten to go solo.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim then stepped in and called for PH-BN to work with the state coalition.
GRS and PH are currently allies in the Sabah government led by GRS chairman Hajiji Noor. BN sits in the opposition.

Rubio says US officials are in Malaysia to help in Cambodia-Thailand talks

Marco Rubio said he and President Donald Trump were actively engaging with counterparts from both countries and closely monitoring the situation. (AFP pic) WASHINGTON : US secretary of state Marco Rubio said state department officials were in Malaysia to assist peace efforts as Cambodia and Thailand were scheduled to begin talks there on Monday in hopes for a ceasefire. President Donald Trump and Rubio were engaged with their counterparts for each country and were monitoring the situation very closely, Rubio said in a statement released by the state department late on Sunday in the US and early Monday in Asia. 'We want this conflict to end as soon as possible,' he said. 'State department officials are on the ground in Malaysia to assist these peace efforts.' The leaders of Thailand and Cambodia were scheduled to attend mediation talks over their deadly border conflict in Malaysia on Monday, the Thai government said, as both sides accused each other of launching fresh artillery strikes across contested areas. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have intensified since the late-May killing of a Cambodian soldier during a brief border skirmish. Border troops on both sides were reinforced amid a full-blown diplomatic crisis that brought Thailand's fragile coalition government to the brink of collapse. Hostilities resumed on Thursday and, within just four days, escalated into the worst fighting between the Southeast Asian neighbours in more than a decade. The death toll has risen above 30, including 13 civilians in Thailand and eight in Cambodia, while authorities report that more than 200,000 people have been evacuated from border areas. Trump said on Sunday he believed both Thailand and Cambodia wanted to settle their differences after he told the leaders of both countries that he would not conclude trade deals with them unless they ended their fighting.

Thai and Cambodian leaders meet in Putrajaya for ceasefire talks

PUTRAJAYA: Leaders from Thailand and Cambodia are set to meet today at 3pm in Putrajaya for urgent talks to de-escalate border clashes that have claimed more than 20 lives. The conflict, which intensified on July 25 near Cambodia's northern border, has displaced thousands on both sides. Cambodian authorities report five soldiers and eight civilians killed, while Thailand has suffered significant military casualties. The unrest follows a fatal skirmish on May 28 near the disputed Preah Vihear zone, where a Cambodian soldier was reportedly shot. The 817-kilometre undemarcated border remains a persistent flashpoint. Thai government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap confirmed participation in the Malaysia-hosted talks, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution. 'The meeting will review peace proposals from both sides,' he said. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, expected to chair the discussions, revealed that global leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Chinese representatives, have urged restraint. 'The priority is restoring stability through dialogue,' Anwar stated after preliminary talks with both nations. - Bernama

EAIC task force: Immigration officers abused power in medical visa approvals, alleged syndicate case referred to AGC

PUTRAJAYA, July 28 — The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) said today it found abuse of power and procedural weaknesses in the issuance of medical visas to foreign nationals by Immigration Department officers. It has since referred its findings to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), recommending charges against the officers under the Penal Code, the Immigration Act 1959/63, and/or the Passports Act 1966. 'The Special Task Force found that there was abuse of power by Immigration officers who approved medical visas for foreign nationals from several countries,' it said in a statement here. '[This is despite them] being aware that the applications submitted were incomplete and did not comply with the provisions outlined in Immigration Circular No. 10/2001.' It said the investigation was carried out by a Special Task Force formed under Section 17 of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009, and led by EAIC Commissioner Datuk Seri Razali Ab. Malik. The task force had reviewed irregularities in the medical visa approval process, including an examination of procedural compliance, witness interviews, document seizures, and the preparation of appropriate recommendations for further action by the authorities. In October last year, EAIC said it seized 156 Social Visit Pass (Medical Treatment Pass category) application files believed to be linked to a medical visa syndicate involving Immigration Department officers. This came after Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban confirmed that the EAIC had visited the Immigration headquarters to conduct further investigations into alleged breaches of integrity involving officers from the department. Reports stated that the syndicate, which had allegedly been operating for some time, had granted medical visas to foreign nationals to enter the country, supposedly for medical services. In February this year, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the EAIC had called in 22 Immigration Department officers to assist in the investigation.
