Tua Tagolvailoa hints at Dolphins civil war as he speaks out on teammate Tyreek Hill's request to leave

Daily Mail2 days ago
Tua Tagovailoa delivered a telling verdict on wantaway teammate Tyreek Hill Wednesday after the star took a sledgehammer to his relationships with the Miami Dolphins at the end of last season.
The wide receiver's relationship with the Dolphins was left in contentious shape throughout the offseason after he repeatedly hinted at a move out of Miami with thinly-veiled jibes at the team and his teammates.
Yet, while the 31-year-old, who is also in the midst of a bitter divorce from wife Keeta Vaccaro, has remained in South Florida as the Dolphins returned to training camp this week, it doesn't necessarily mean all is forgiven.
'When you say something like that you don't just come back with "My bad." You gotta work that relationship up. He is working on himself,' Tagovailoa told reporters when asked about Hill's fiery comments.
The wideout appeared to take himself out the team's final game of the 2024 season against the New York Jets, with head coach Mike McDaniel then denying Hill's claim that he was hurt and couldn't play.
Then, speaking with reporters after the game, Hill was visibly unhappy at missing the postseason.
'This is my first time I haven't been in the playoffs, man,' Hill said. 'So I just got to do what's best for me and my family.
'I'm opening the door. I'm out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I gotta do what's best for my career because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there.'
In addition to his cryptic Week 18 message, Hill courted further controversy when he appeared to take a swipe at Tagovailoa himself.
The receiver was asked by a fan on social media to rank the best quarterbacks in the league and he passed over his own signal caller, who missed parts of the 2024 season after suffering another concussion.
Hill's picks were Ravens star Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen of the Bills, Chiefs icon Patrick Mahomes , Buccaneers star Baker Mayfield and Bengals signal caller Joe Burrow.
Hill insisted his selections were in no particular order but his omission of Tagovailoa nevertheless saw the clip go viral.
His repeated digs fueled speculation that the receiver could force his way out of the 305 but general manager Chris Grier insisted in April that the Dolphins have no intention of trading Hill.
'That is not anything that we're pursuing,' Grier said. 'If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks then we'd consider it. But, as of right now, it's not something we're considering.'
While Hill's relationships in the NFL are a work in progress, the one with his estranged wife is seemingly beyond repair.
Fitness entrepreneur Vaccaro filed for divorce on April 7 a day after cops responded to reports of an 'assault in progress' at the couple's luxury Miami condo.
Hill hurled a laptop onto the floor and was 'aggressive and impulsive' according to Vaccaro's mother Alesia – but police determined that 'no crime was committed'.
An astonishing 78 court documents have been submitted since then as the estranged couple bicker over spousal support and access to their seven-month-old daughter Capri.
Vaccaro's lawyers took aim at Hill in an April 17 filing that claimed he had 'no sincere desire to spend time with the baby, to assume parental responsibilities … or to be personally involved with the baby'.
The gridiron phenom's real objective, claimed attorneys Evan Marks and Carolyn West, was 'coercion and control'.

About 100 players, two dozen club employees face fines for selling Super Bowl tickets

NEW YORK, July 25 (Reuters) - About 100 NFL players and two dozen employees from several teams face fines for selling this year's Super Bowl tickets for more than face value, a source told Reuters on Friday, activity that violated a long-standing league policy. Players will be fined 1.5 times the face value of the ticket they sold while club employees will be fined twice the amount. ESPN first broke the news on the fines. League and team employees, including players, are prohibited from selling NFL game tickets acquired from their employer for more than face value or more than they paid. NFL players have an opportunity to buy two Super Bowl tickets at face value. None of the individuals involved or their teams were identified. In the 2025 contest, when the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, the most expensive tickets at the New Orleans' Superdome had a face value of about $7,500 and were priced as high as $56,770 on the resale market . In a memo seen by Reuters, the league's head of compliance told clubs the department was in the process of concluding its investigation into the matter. "The investigation has revealed that club employees and players sold their tickets to a small number of 'bundlers' who were working with a ticket reseller to sell the Super Bowl tickets above face value," the document read. "Those that worked to 'bundle' the tickets, or otherwise had a greater role, will face increased penalties." The NFL will enhance its mandatory compliance training ahead of the Super Bowl in 2026, which will be held at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, according to the memo. Super Bowl tickets are among the most coveted in all of North American professional sport, with fans routinely shelling out thousands of dollars to attend the NFL's championship game that is watched religiously by millions across the U.S.

Coach's hilarious response as North Queensland Cowboys star welcomes new baby hours before breakthrough win over Dragons

North Queensland Cowboys enforcer Reuben Cotter has welcomed his third child just hours before helping his side to a breakthrough win over the Dragons in Townsville. The Cowboys ensured their season still has a faint pulse with the tense 38-32 win, courtesy of a Tom Dearden masterclass. But Queensland Maroons and Australian Kangaroos star Cotter also aimed up, playing on likely very little sleep after the birth of his third child, daughter Pippi Ray. Cotter now has three children with his wife Mackenzie, including son Banks and daughter Sunny - who is a regular at Cowboys home matches. Cotter was named Sports Dad of the Year in 2024 and said while it was challenging raising young kids and juggling a footy career, he wouldn't change it for the world. 'While nothing can completely prepare you for fatherhood, the discipline and routine from the sport definitely help,' he said at the time. View this post on Instagram A post shared by @kenzcotter 'Seeing [Sunny] smile after the game and sharing those moments with her on the field is incredibly special.' Mackenzie announced the arrival of Pippi Ray on Instagram in the early hours of Friday morning, with the Cowboys playing at 6pm that night. Cotter took his place in the team and had nine carries for just shy of 100 metres, including 42 post-contact metres along with a staggering 41 tackles without a single miss. There was a hilarious moment in the post-match media conference, though, when a reporter asked if Cotter was going to take a couple of days off following the birth. Coach Todd Payten slowly shook his head, as the room erupted in laughter. 'I don't know. Straight into it again?' Cotter asked Payten. 'No mate. See you in the morning,' the Cowboys coach replied. Cotter added that he had to block out the exciting family news to focus on getting his side a much-needed win. 'I try not to think about it too much I just try and focus on my job for the team,' he said. 'Obviously enjoyed yesterday but we had a job to do today and we obviously needed the win so I locked in on my role for the team.' The victory keeps the Cowboys' slim NRL finals hopes alive, leapfrogging the Dragons into 11th place, five points outside the top eight with five matches to play. The Cowboys have the bye in the final round. It wasn't pretty for the Cowboys, but it was a welcome relief for Payten's men, just their second win in their past eight starts. Meanwhile, the Dragons have now won just one of their past seven and sit in 12th place, six points outside the top eight. With six games to go, five of which are against teams currently in the top eight, they may well see 2025 as a season of 'what if'', having suffered seven defeats by six points or less, and staring down the barrel of no finals for a seventh consecutive year.
