Miami Dolphins Receive Brutal Defensive Injury Update

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Miami Dolphins began training camp on Wednesday. While it's just training camp, football season has arrived and fans could not be more excited. Entering training camp, there was a major concern for the Dolphins in the defensive secondary. They traded away Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Miami did get Minkah Fitzpatrick back, but there was a clear need at cornerback. Unfortunately, one of the team's current cornerbacks has now suffered a season-ending injury. Head coach Mike McDaniel of the Miami Dolphins calls a timeout during the first quarter against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on September 22, 2024 in Seattle, Washington. What kind of role Burns may have carved out for himself in Miami will never be known. He had a chance to earn legitimate playing time for a team who badly needed help at his position. Last season, Burns played in just four games with the Seattle Seahawks. He recorded four tackles and three defended passes. Back in the 2023 campaign, the 30-year-old cornerback had played in 15 games and recorded 23 tackles and two defended passes. Even though the injury may not impact the Dolphins' defense in a huge way, it does deprive them of more talent at the cornerback position. Many believe that Miami should look into bringing in another cornerback from the free agency market. Among those players are Stephon Gilmore, Asante Samuel Jr., and Rasul Douglas. Perhaps this injury news will force the Dolphins to get active and bring in another player. This is not the first major injury that Burns has suffered in his NFL career. Back in 2020, he tore his ACL. He also suffered a knee patella sprain back in 2019. Burns has also dealt with plenty of other nagging injuries that have forced him to miss games. Hopefully, he will be able to make a full and quick recovery. He isn't getting any younger and this latest setback is a brutal blow for his career. It will be interesting to see if Miami makes a move to address the cornerback position before the start of the regular season. For more Miami Dolphins and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Tua Tagolvailoa hints at Dolphins civil war as he speaks out on teammate Tyreek Hill's request to leave

Tua Tagovailoa delivered a telling verdict on wantaway teammate Tyreek Hill Wednesday after the star took a sledgehammer to his relationships with the Miami Dolphins at the end of last season. The wide receiver's relationship with the Dolphins was left in contentious shape throughout the offseason after he repeatedly hinted at a move out of Miami with thinly-veiled jibes at the team and his teammates. Yet, while the 31-year-old, who is also in the midst of a bitter divorce from wife Keeta Vaccaro, has remained in South Florida as the Dolphins returned to training camp this week, it doesn't necessarily mean all is forgiven. 'When you say something like that you don't just come back with "My bad." You gotta work that relationship up. He is working on himself,' Tagovailoa told reporters when asked about Hill's fiery comments. The wideout appeared to take himself out the team's final game of the 2024 season against the New York Jets, with head coach Mike McDaniel then denying Hill's claim that he was hurt and couldn't play. Then, speaking with reporters after the game, Hill was visibly unhappy at missing the postseason. 'This is my first time I haven't been in the playoffs, man,' Hill said. 'So I just got to do what's best for me and my family. 'I'm opening the door. I'm out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I gotta do what's best for my career because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there.' In addition to his cryptic Week 18 message, Hill courted further controversy when he appeared to take a swipe at Tagovailoa himself. The receiver was asked by a fan on social media to rank the best quarterbacks in the league and he passed over his own signal caller, who missed parts of the 2024 season after suffering another concussion. Hill's picks were Ravens star Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen of the Bills, Chiefs icon Patrick Mahomes , Buccaneers star Baker Mayfield and Bengals signal caller Joe Burrow. Hill insisted his selections were in no particular order but his omission of Tagovailoa nevertheless saw the clip go viral. His repeated digs fueled speculation that the receiver could force his way out of the 305 but general manager Chris Grier insisted in April that the Dolphins have no intention of trading Hill. 'That is not anything that we're pursuing,' Grier said. 'If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks then we'd consider it. But, as of right now, it's not something we're considering.' While Hill's relationships in the NFL are a work in progress, the one with his estranged wife is seemingly beyond repair. Fitness entrepreneur Vaccaro filed for divorce on April 7 a day after cops responded to reports of an 'assault in progress' at the couple's luxury Miami condo. Hill hurled a laptop onto the floor and was 'aggressive and impulsive' according to Vaccaro's mother Alesia – but police determined that 'no crime was committed'. An astonishing 78 court documents have been submitted since then as the estranged couple bicker over spousal support and access to their seven-month-old daughter Capri. Vaccaro's lawyers took aim at Hill in an April 17 filing that claimed he had 'no sincere desire to spend time with the baby, to assume parental responsibilities … or to be personally involved with the baby'. The gridiron phenom's real objective, claimed attorneys Evan Marks and Carolyn West, was 'coercion and control'.

Miami Dolphins player Bayron Matos airlifted to hospital after suffering injury in practice

Miami Dolphins player Bayron Matos was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday after suffering an injury in the final few minutes of practice. Matos was taken to a local medical facility in a helicopter but the Dolphins have said he is now in a stable condition. The 24-year-old offensive tackle's injury has not been specified but it occurred on the first day of this year's training camp. Born in the Dominican Republic, Matos joined the NFL's International Player Pathway Program and signed with the Dolphins last year. He spent the season on Miami's practice squad but would have been desperately trying to impress head coach Mike McDaniel in training camp. More to follow.

Tyreek Hill vows maturity and redemption: Dolphins star aims to silence doubters with focused 2025 season

All offseason, Tyreek Hill has heard the clip of himself frustratingly declaring "I'm out" on the Miami Dolphins after last season's disappointing finish. The Dolphins star receiver doesn't feel that way anymore. He regrets making those comments. And he said among his goals this season is to reveal a version of himself — a more subdued, mature one — that he hasn't shown yet in his career. "I literally heard that all offseason some kind of way on YouTube shorts because my kids stay on YouTube." Hill said Tuesday as Dolphins veterans reported to training camp. "And I'm like, 'I don't want to put that out there for my boys to see." Hill has made headlines — good and bad — throughout his career. Last season's outburst that included taking himself out in the second half of Miami's regular-season finale against the New York Jets was an example of antics the All-Pro receiver said can't continue to happen. He has since had talks with teammates and coach Mike McDaniel on how to be more of a leader moving forward, especially as he hopes to help the Dolphins deliver the playoff win that has eluded them for more than two decades. "That's why this year, this whole entire offseason, I've been busting my tail," Hill said. "I told my dad, I said, 'I want to see what it looks like whenever I focus just on football, and I just focus on myself and family. Because I feel like I really haven't been giving the best version of me, of Tyreek, my whole entire career. ... I just want to see what that version of myself looks like. I'm looking forward to it." Hill is coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro in 2024. He finished with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns — his fewest receptions and yards since an injury-filled 2019 season when he played for Kansas City, and a steep drop-off from his NFL-leading 2023 season in which he caught 119 passes for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. He said he's finding motivation for the upcoming season in a few places, such as family. "My kids are Justin Jefferson fanatics," Hill quipped. "They really enjoy Justin Jefferson a lot. I was talking to my son on FaceTime last night, and his mom told me 'One of the kids came up to him and was like, 'You're Tyreek Hill's son?'' And he was like, 'No, Justin Jefferson's my dad.'" "We play jokes with each other," Hill added, "so I know it's in the spirit of just playing jokes and just having fun. That's what keeps me hungry, man. Just trying to continue to stay at the top, continuing to be a leader in my household for my kids." Hill has spent the offseason recovering from the wrist injury that limited him in 2024 and becoming more lean. His offseason training also included winning a 100-meter race in 10.15 seconds last month in California — a sign that he still possesses all of his trademark speed as he enters his 10th NFL season. "Today was our conditioning test," Hill said, "and at 31 years old, I must say, I haven't lost a step."
