Watch as the Star of ‘Murderbot' Finally, Begrudgingly Learns How to Speak Human

Gizmodo18-06-2025
As Murderbot fans have realized by now, the titular SecUnit robot would much, much rather check the perimeter or binge-watch trashy soap operas than interact with the humans in its care. Do not expect eye contact! But as we're in the second half of the season, the self-aware AI and its team have bonded a bit as they've endured some major danger together—and it's not over yet.
In episode six, we saw Murderbot abruptly eliminate the 'hostile' who was only pretending to be the sole survivor of a mysterious attack on another human team surveying the same far-flung but apparently not so deserted planet (RIP, Leebeebee, you boundary-pushing backstabber). It had no choice, really, but the sudden burst of violence was a startling display for the gentle souls hailing from Preservation Alliance.
In this week's episode, 'Complementary Species,' the group realizes the manufactured habitat they've been calling home is no longer safe, so they gather up their things and prepare to go into hiding. But as you'll see in this clip, they're dilly-dallying a bit, so Murderbot—who they're still newly afraid of following the Leebeebee thing—offers encouragement both stern and soft. Well, soft-er, anyway.
Find out what happens next when Murderbot episode seven arrives Friday, June 20 on Apple TV+.

"Um, Donald Is So Hot Right Now": People Are Losing Their Minds After Donald Trump Jr. Weirdly Swooned Over His Own Dad

Donald Trump Jr. made an attempt to diss the left by calling his dad 'hot' in an AI-generated image of his father parodying Sydney Sweeney's controversial American Eagle ad campaign. 'That Hanse.... Um, Donald is so hot right now!!!,' he wrote in a post featuring an AI image of President Donald Trump posing on the floor wearing a denim outfit. The caption was a reference to Owen Wilson's character Hansel McDonald in Zoolander. Although Donald Trump Jr.'s weird comment was made as a joke, this was not the first time he has said something uncomfortable about a family member. In a TikTok video posted last year, the president's son referred to his daughter Kai as 'sexy' while the two were getting prepared for the Republican National Convention. In the video, he asked Kai, then 17, if wearing makeup would make him 'sexy like you.' @DonaldTrumpJr / Via Though he was presumably kidding around, many people nevertheless found it a very odd word for a father to call his underaged daughter. The president has also made some uncomfortable comments about his own daughter Ivanka. In 2004 he gave radio host Howard Stern permission to call her a 'piece of ass,' and stated on ABC's The View in 2006 that 'if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps, I would be dating her.' Miles Taylor, who served as Department of Homeland Security chief of staff under Donald Trump, claimed in his book that the president talked about his daughter's 'breasts, her backside, and what it might be like to have sex with her.' Donald Trump Jr.'s unsettling AI-generated post was a spoof of American Eagle's recent ad campaign featuring Sweeney, 27. The ads have received backlash online after some accused them of having racist undertones and promoting eugenics. In one ad, Sweeney, a white woman with blue eyes and blond hair, is shown lying down as the camera pans sideways to show her zipping up her jeans as she narrates about genetic traits. sydney sweeneh for american eagle — best of sydney sweeney (@sydneyfiles) July 25, 2025 @sydneyfiles / American Eagle 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue,' Sweeney says before the screen promotes the tagline 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,' a pun on the word 'genes.' The campaign sparked outrage online as some began calling it an alt-right dog whistle. 'The American Eagles ad wasn't just a commercial. It was a love letter to white nationalism and eugenic fantasies, and Sydney Sweeney knew it,' activist influencer Zellie Imani said on X. The American Eagles ad wasn't just a commercial. Donald Trump's communications director, Steven Cheung, chimed in on the controversy, calling it 'Cancel culture run amok.' Cancel culture run amok. Matthew Lawrence Wants to Use AI to Bring Back Robin Williams' Voice: 'He's Gotta Be the Voice of AI' — GeekTyrant

At this year's Comic-Con, Mrs. Doubtfire star Matthew Lawrence opened up about an idea that's both nostalgic and controversial. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor shared that he wants to resurrect Robin Williams' voice using artificial intelligence, describing it as a heartfelt tribute that could bring comfort and joy to a generation of fans. 'I would love — now, obviously, with the respect and with the OK from his family — but I would love to do something really special with his voice because I know for a generation, that voice is just so iconic. 'It's not just the fact that I knew him and worked with him and so it's in my head — it's in everybody's head. And it would be so cool.' The idea came after Lawrence stumbled upon an old TV commercial that featured Williams doing a computerized voiceover. It stuck with him, especially in light of today's rapid advancement in AI technology. 'It's kinda like this very contemporary, modern, almost sort of foreshadowing of what's going on commercial that he did, where he did this computerized voiceover. 'And it always stuck with me. And then, during his passing, with the AI coming out, I'm like, 'Man, he's gotta be the voice of AI. He's gotta be the voice in something.' So yeah, I would love to do that.' Lawrence even mused on what it would be like to have Williams' voice helping you with everyday tasks, like navigating traffic. 'It would be Robin! It would be so cool. I'm telling you.' Williams, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 63, left behind a legacy of unforgettable performances. Mrs. Doubtfire , one of his most beloved films, grossed over $440 million worldwide and became a defining comedy of the '90s. But for Lawrence, the impact went far beyond the screen. In a past interview with People, he reflected on the profound influence Williams had on his life, especially when it came to avoiding substance abuse. 'He was the first adult who really let me in on his condition. Like, full-on let me in. I mean, as bright as he was on camera — I would go visit him in his trailer to talk to him — it was painful for him. It's really painful for him. He didn't hide it. He talked to me about it.' Lawrence recalled the moment clearly. Williams told him: 'Don't ever do drugs. Especially cocaine. You know when you come to my trailer and you see me like that? That's the reason why. And now I'm fighting for the rest of my life because I spent 10 years doing something very stupid every day. Do not do it.' Lawrence said he steered clear of drugs because of that advice. He also shared a story about how Williams helped him land the role of Chris Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire . The studio had favored another child actor, but during a key audition, Williams playfully pinched Lawrence behind the back to provoke a genuine reaction. '[Robin] very secretly reached behind my back and pinched me so hard. I got the role because of that little moment over the other boy. It was all Robin Williams. 'I know what I'm going to do to get this kid this job.' Thank you, Rob.' Whether or not Williams' voice is ever revived through AI, Lawrence's memories are a reminder of the personal and emotional connections that shaped a generation. His idea is sure to stir up some debate, but it's rooted in love for the man who gave so much to the world through his voice, humor, and humanity.
