Woman dies with 26 iPhones glued to her body on board bus
An investigation has been launched in Brazil after a young woman died with dozens of iPhones glued to her body.
The 20-year-old tragically collapsed on a bus travelling through Guarapuava, in the central state of Paraná, and later died despite efforts from medics to save her, according to the Mirror.
She had been on a long-distance coach that stopped at a roadside restaurant when she suddenly took ill. Paramedics from Brazil's Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) were called and found her awake but struggling to breathe.
But her condition rapidly worsened. She began showing signs consistent with a seizure and respiratory distress before going into cardiac arrest.
Paramedics attempted to revive the woman for around 45 minutes, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was only while medics were treating her that they made the bizarre discovery that several packages, including 26 iPhones, had been strapped to her body.
There were no drugs found on her after a police sniffer dog was brought in. But investigators from Brazil's Scientific Police and Civil Police were called and discovered several bottles of alcohol in her luggage, which were seized.
"The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death. According to preliminary information, the woman, who was alone, was traveling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo. The 26 cell phones that were glued to her body were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service," police said according to Brazilian news outlet Globo.
The identity of the woman has not been released by authorities. An investigation remains ongoing.
In a separate incident, also in Brazil, a TV journalist was left shaken after being mugged just moments before going live on air.
Clara Nery, a correspondent for the Band network, was on a sidewalk in Botafogo, a neighbourhood in southern Rio de Janeiro, when the drama unfolded on Monday, July 28.
She had been preparing to go live for the Bora Brasil morning programme when a man on a motorbike swooped in and tried to grab her phone.

While driving past Clara, the assailant can be seen reaching out and swiping the journalist's phone from her hand.
The clip shows Clara screaming out in shock and letting out a swear word before lunging after her phone and disappearing from the camera's view.
Clara later confirmed the mugger was unable to steal and make off with her device as she had a firm grip on it. She said: 'I had my back turned when this man rode by on a motorcycle on the sidewalk and tried to take my phone. In the video, you can see the moment he puts his hand on my phone and takes it from me.
'Luckily, and despite his lack of skill, I managed to retrieve the phone. But we already have the security camera footage, the camera that managed to focus on his face.'

Local Tory MP Ed Argar, commented yesterday: "The reports are clearly shocking and deeply concerning. Our thoughts are with the young people affected." Leicestershire Police Assistant Chief Constable James Avery declined to disclose the ages of the children or their origins yesterday. Mr Avery added: "The investigation is being led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit's Major Incident Team." The pensioner, from Nottingham, is a retired vet who later became an early years primary school teacher and church youth worker. The dad-of-two is understood to have administered poison or a noxious substance to kids staying at Stathern Lodge, a residential activity centre used by church groups near Melton Mowbray, Leics. He is listed as a trustee of Stathern Children's Holiday Fund, a charity linked to the site, offering subsidised holidays for underprivileged young people. According to a document shared online by the Vet Times in 2012, Mr Ruben ran a lab in Herefordshire specialising in small animal medicine, completed a PhD on viruses in chickens and later owned a veterinary practice with four branches in Nottingham. He re-qualified as an early years primary teacher in 1995 and now works as a children and youth leader at a church in the city. He is understood to have been supervising a group of youngsters from the church on a trip to the holiday camp site in Stathern when the poisonings took place. Man 'chopped into pieces by his mum and girlfriend' as body found in bin
The brutal slaying has shocked the small Italian town of Gemona del Friuli, especially as it involves with a trusted local nurse accused of killing her own son A man was believed to be drugged before being hacked to bits with an axe, with the suspicions falling on the victim's mum and girlfriend. The bloodied remains of 35-year-old Italian man Alessandro Venier were found in a bin at his home near the north-eastern city of Udine. His body had been covered in quicklime to hide the stench. It is believed he had been dead for days before the police found him. Local media report the suspects - his own mum Lorena Venier and his 30-year-old girlfriend - turned themselves in to the police. So far no motive has been revealed. It comes after a woman, 20, was found dead on bus with 26 iPhones glued to her body. Mr Venier had worked in a low-level role at a local hospital. The women are believed to have drugged him before hacking him to pieces with an axe. The two suspects and the victim all lived together along with the victim's six-month-old baby daughter. The killing has left the neighbours shocked, especially because they can't understand how the man's own mum, a well-liked nurse in the town, could have been involved. Mr Venier's remains were discovered on Thursday after one of the women called the police. Both suspects were arrested and taken to the local police station. 'Nothing like this has ever happened here before,' said Roberto Revelant, the mayor of Gemona del Friuli, where the killing took place. 'It's a terrible thing, it's heart-wrenching.' Mr Venier had one day hoped to move to Colombia, the mayor revealed. The baby has been taken into care. The mayor added: "The whole community is rallying around the baby. We are working with social services to make sure she is safe.' Investigations are ongoing and charges are expected in the next couple of days. This comes after the missing head of a decapitated man was handed into police by a student, who was promptly arrested. The young man reportedly brought the unattached head, which had been wrapped in tin foil, out of his backpack and shocked doctors at the São José Hospital, in Lisbon, Portugal, who quickly called the police. A man's headless body had been found lying in the middle of the street in the centre of the Portuguese capital on Wednesday. Police launched a murder inquiry after the body was found on Patio Salema, a narrow road near a major tourist site and picturesque square, shortly after 6.45am local time.
