Nintendo's new game-key cards that have come to the Switch 2 are controversial to say the least. Confusingly, they're physical cards that are inserted into the console, but they only contain a permission that allows you to then download a game. The company has reportedly sent out a questionnaire in Japan asking gamers to tell it how they feel about the new commodity, and people aren't holding back.
An Automaton article (written in Japanese and translated via Google) has been posted to Reddit, and it states that the survey is asking Nintendo users for their honest feedback on the key cards – even if they have complaints.
The survey reportedly asks questions about the experience of using the new key cards, such as how satisfied players are with them and if they've experienced any inconveniences or concerns when using them.
I can't read Japanese, and I don't trust Twitter's Grok translations, but there are plenty of English comments on Reddit to comb through – we may not have the survey in the West, but people are still keen to share their opinions.
Nintendo is conducting a questionnaire about the "key card" of Nintendo Switch 2. Seeking honest opinions, including dissatisfaction in Japan from r/NSCollectors
"Just keep telling them how big bullshit key cards are," reads the top comment. "It'd be awesome if something came of this, key cards ain't it and I can only hope Japan tells Nintendo that en masse with this survey," replies another dissatisfied customer.
I can understand the frustration. For a while now, physical game boxes have sometimes come with digital download codes rather than actual game discs, and I hate it. This feels like an extension of that. A benefit of digital games used to be how easy they were to download. But now, with game-key cards, you need the physical item to install the software, as well as play it once it's been downloaded. So, you may as well just have a regular cartridge.
For now, check out all the best Switch 2 games you can play – will you get them physical, digital, or the secret third thing, game-key card?

Vietnam's public security ministry takes stake in internet firm FPT Telecom

HANOI (Reuters) -A majority stake in Vietnam's FPT Telecom, one of the country's largest internet providers, has been transferred to the Ministry of Public Security from a state-run investment corporation in an effort to boost national cybersecurity, the ministry said on Wednesday. Vietnam's State Capital Investment Corporation previously held 50.17% of FPT Telecom, while FPT Corp, Vietnam's largest private tech company, had a 45.66% stake but retained control of the unit, according to FPT Telecom's financial statements for last year. The transfer is aimed at strengthening the ministry's capability to protect national security and ensure network and information security, the ministry said in a statement. It did not elaborate whether the ministry would take effective control of FPT Telecom. Wednesday's statement confirmed a Reuters report in April about the possible transfer. The ministry, which oversees the police, has become increasingly involved in Vietnam's internet and telecoms sector. It took control of the country's third-largest telecoms operator, MobiFone, last year and also spearheaded a tightening of data protection rules that has raised concerns among foreign tech firms. Shares in FPT Corp rose by 0.24% on Wednesday morning, while shares in FPT Telecom were also up slightly. In addition to providing internet services, FPT Telecom is involved in the development of undersea fibre-optic cables, which Communist-run Vietnam considers a national priority as most of its existing cables are ageing and prone to accidents. Hong Kong stocks lifted by Nvidia rally on mixed day in Asia

Tech firms led another rally in Hong Kong stocks Wednesday after US titan Nvidia said it would resume exports of key chips to China after Washington pledged to remove licensing curbs. However, other Asian markets were mixed as they weighed Indonesia's trade deal with Washington and a spike in US inflation that saw investors pare their bets on Federal Reserve interest rate cuts. California-based Nvidia, one of the world's most valuable companies, said Tuesday it will restart sales of its H20 artificial intelligence semiconductors to China, having been stopped by US President Donald Trump's tightened export licensing requirements in April. CEO Jensen Huang said they would be shipping "very soon". The news boosted tech firms around the world, with Wall Street's Nasdaq rising to another record higher, while the S&P 500 and Dow fell. In Hong Kong, Chinese tech giants Alibaba, and Tencent jumped to push the Hang Seng Index up around one percent. However, the rest of Asia was mixed, with Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney, Seoul and Manila falling, while Singapore, Wellington, Taipei and Jakarta rose. The gains in Indonesia came after Trump said a trade deal had been struck with the Southeast Asian country that will see Washington impose tariffs of 19 percent on its goods, below the 32 percent previously threatened. US shipments will not be taxed. The news means the Trump administration has now announced deals with three countries but around two dozen are still in the pipeline just over two weeks ahead of the president's August 1 deadline. Some have suggested that a healthy run-up on Wall Street over the past few weeks could be giving him confidence to keep the threats up. The president also warned Tuesday that he could begin imposing tolls on imports of semiconductors and pharmaceuticals from August 1. Investor confidence was dented by data showing US inflation jumped to 2.7 percent last month, sharply up from 2.4 percent in May and more than forecast as Trump's tariffs began to kick in. The data saw the probability of a Fed rate cut in September slip to just a little higher than 50 percent. That came as Dallas Fed president Lorie Logan said "monetary policy needs to hold tight for a while longer to bring inflation sustainably back to target -- and in this base case, we can sustain maximum employment even with modestly restrictive policy". Still, she added in prepared remarks that: "It's also possible that some combination of softer inflation and a weakening labour market will call for lower rates fairly soon." While markets are generally on an uptrend, Vincenzo Vedda, global chief investment officer at DWS, warned of possible bumps in the road. "The short-term future could... hold a significant market correction, since prevailing risk factors have not suddenly disappeared after all," he wrote in a commentary. "Trump's Beautiful Big Bill will inflate the US budget deficit, and long-term interest rates are set to rise. Tariffs are not completely off the table, either driving or containing inflation -- the latter if economic growth is dampened. "Substantial geopolitical risks are an additional factor." - Key figures at around 0230 GMT - Tokyo - Nikkei 225: DOWN 0.1 percent at 39,642.40 (break) Hong Kong - Hang Seng Index: UP 1.0 percent at 24,829.23 Shanghai - Composite: DOWN 0.1 percent at 3,501.04 Euro/dollar: UP at $1.1615 from $1.1606 on Tuesday Pound/dollar: UP at $1.3398 from $1.3383 Dollar/yen: DOWN at 148.83 yen from 148.85 yen Euro/pound: DOWN at 86.68 pence from 86.69 pence West Texas Intermediate: UP 0.6 percent at $66.91 per barrel Brent North Sea Crude: UP 0.4 percent at $69.00 per barrel New York - Dow: DOWN 1.0 percent at 44,023.29 (close) London - FTSE 100: DOWN 0.7 percent at 8,938.32 (close) dan/sco Error in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data
