3 Aaliyah Edwards trade destinations, including a UConn reunion with Paige Bueckers
On Tuesday, ESPN's Alexa Philippou and Kendra Andrews reported that several teams reached out to the Mystics about trading for the second-year forward and that Washington is accepting calls. Edwards was drafted sixth overall by the Mystics during the 2024 WNBA Draft. However, after starting 17 games last season, her minutes have diminished and so has her production.
MORE WNBA: Caitlin Clark's controversial All-Star vote isn't player jealousy
Edwards has seemingly become the odd person out in a crowded frontcourt which includes rookie Kiki Iriafen and veterans Shakira Austin and Stefanie Dolson. If Edwards does get moved, it begs the question: where could she go where she could continue to develop and eventually be in the starting rotation?
Here are three possible Aaliyah Edwards trade destinations that make sense:
1. Dallas Wings
Aaliyah Edwards reuniting with former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers in Dallas would make a lot of sense.
Bueckers, while dynamic by herself, could certainly use another familiar face (who spent three seasons with her) as the Wings continue to work through the growing pains of being a young team. The Wings also moved on from forward Nalyssa Smith on Monday and could insert Edwards into the lineup in the spot that was filled by Smith.
The question then becomes, would Dallas pull off another trade so soon? If so, how much would it take for the Mystics to let Edwards move on to Dallas? Trading Smith netted a 2027 first-round pick. So, the asking price may start there.
2. Indiana Fever
After waiving veteran forward DeWanna Bonner, the Indiana Fever should at least give the Mystics a call about Edwards.
Bonner was signed during the offseason as one of the WNBA's premier free agents. However, things went south very quickly. The former Fever forward only started three games before being benched for guard Lexie Hull, and ultimately ended her tenure with Indiana, having played just nine games. Edwards might not start in Indiana's rotation, but she would get quality minutes playing the three or four behind Hull and forward Natasha Howard.
The Fever desperately need big depth who can come in to relieve the starters and immediately make an impact. Adding Edwards may not majorly move the needle now for Indiana, but she's still on a rookie-scale contract and with time and development could become a key piece for the franchise in the future.
3. Minnesota Lynx
Perhaps the most intriguing landing spot for Edwards would be alongside Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier.
Collier and Edwards went toe-to-toe during Unrivaled's one-on-one tournament earlier this year, and though Collier got the best of the second-year forward, Edwards held her own against several opponents to get there, including veteran Breanna Stewart. Collier praised Edwards afterward, and though it was a small connection on the radar then, perhaps it could help with moving Edwards to the Lynx now. (Collier is also a UConn alumna, which adds a little something extra to a potential teammate relationship.)
Looking ahead, Minnesota might not want to disrupt what it currently has going on with its championship-caliber roster, but what if the Lynx wanted to stash Edwards behind forward Bridget Carleton as a future starter? Carleton, who's spent seven seasons in Minnesota, will be a free agent when the new CBA kicks in next season. The organization could opt to move on, leaving behind a space in the starting lineup for Edwards to walk into.

Mariners acquire Josh Naylor from the Diamondbacks for 2 pitchers as trade deadline deals begin
The Seattle Mariners acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday as the franchise tries to beef up its lineup ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. The 28-year-old Naylor is hitting .292 with 11 homers and 59 RBIs this season, which was his first with the D-backs. He was acquired from the Cleveland Guardians in a trade during the offseason. Naylor hit a winning grand slam against the Mariners in June. 'We are thrilled to add Josh as we make a push for the postseason,' Seattle general manager Justin Hollander said in a statement. 'Josh's ability to hit for both average and power is unique and we are excited to not face him anymore.' The D-backs acquired left-hander Brandyn Garcia, who has two appearances for the Mariners this season, and minor-league lefty Ashton Izzi. The Mariners currently have a 54-48 record, which is good for second place in the AL West. They are in the second wild-card position. The D-backs — who have a disappointing 50-53 record — are expected to continue dealing players ahead of next week's trade deadline. Third baseman Eugenio Suarez and pitchers Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen are among the players with expiring contracts who could be on the move. Naylor was an All-Star last season with a career-high 31 homers and 108 RBIs for the Guardians.

Astros interested in 36 home run third baseman, according to MLB insider
The Houston Astros have seen a few of their key offensive players go down with injury this season. With a week until the MLB trade deadline, the team is exploring options to bolster the roster, which has dealt with such injuries. Most recently, the injury to Isaac Paredes, which, as manager Joe Espada described, is "pretty serious," could lead general manager Dana Brown to inquire about third base options. And according to Francys Romero of the Astros are interested in one of the top third basemen on the trade market this season. "The Astros are also showing interest in Eugenio Suarez and have a deep enough farm system to back a potential trade, per industry sources." Romero writes. This report from Romero comes a little after the Seattle Mariners swung a deal for another Arizona Diamondbacks star in Josh Naylor. But the Mariners are still in on Suarez, and now, the Astros are interested in him too. Suarez, the 34-year-old third baseman, has been on a tear this season. He has 36 home runs, an MLB-leading 86 RBIs, and a .918 OPS. He also earned his second career All-Star nod and reached 300 career home runs this season. But, in the final year of his $79 million deal, and with the Diamondbacks' struggles, Suarez has become one of the hottest commodities at the trade deadline. MORE: Astros named a 'strong trade fit' for Braves three-time All-Star silver slugger Romero's report, beyond the Astros' interest, is noteworthy. For the talk surrounding the Astros' farm system being weak, this report suggests that the Astros could swing a deal for Suarez, one of the top names on the market at this trade deadline. With a week to go until the deadline, Houston will have a chance to make a push for Suarez. While the cost may be high, Romero's report indicates that they have enough to land him. The Astros, amid Paredes' injury, are interested in Suarez and have the trade capital to bring him to Houston. It'd be a huge move, but the Astros are reportedly interested in making such a move happen. AP The lead was 75-70 after Jewell Loyd scored for Las Vegas, but the Aces went the final 94 seconds without a point. Aari McDonald hit a 3-pointer and Cunningham added two free throws to finish it off. Indiana led for most of the first quarter and the Fever had an 18-12 advantage with 1:40 remaining. Las Vegas made 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch to tie it at 18 heading to the second quarter. Wilson scored six of the first eight points of the second quarter and the Aces built a 26-18 lead. After the Aces fell behind 33-29, a 3-pointer by Loyd started a 12-2 run and they led 41-35 at halftime.
