The NIL deals being signed by college athletes continue to climb, and in most cases, it's not about raw talent, but rather about players with high visibility who have built up a brand.

One such example is Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, who hasn't yet made a significant impact on the field, but with his family's pedigree, everyone already knows his name and expects a lot from this 21-year-old.
During a recent episode of the "Bobby Carpenter Show," Anthony Schlegel, who has had two stints with the Ohio State Buckeyes, his alma mater, as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, predicted Manning would have to lead the nation in NIL valuations.
"People that were returning that would require the dollar amount, Arch Manning would be that guy," said Carpenter as he was trying to recall the best players in the sport.
Schlegel and Carpenter were reviewing a top 10 list of college football players and discussing how Manning was ranked at No. 1 with a $6.5 million valuation. Carpenter, another Ohio State alumnus who played for the Buckeyes from 2002 to 2005, pointed out Manning's NIL total comes from endorsements only, not from Texas' boosters.

In April, Manning and clothing brand Vuori agreed to a deal that sent his valuation to its current estimate.
Texas is projected to have spent somewhere between $35 and $40 million on NIL deals, according to Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle.
In his report, Bohls quoted a source that believes these years of big spending won't last, even among the nation's best programs.
'It's just unsustainable,' the source said via Bohls. 'The next season after this year, the whole world will be back to reality.'

BlinkOps Announces Key Collaboration With Microsoft Sentinel to Provide Agentic Workflow Automation for Security Teams

Now available in the Azure Marketplace, BlinkOps enables Microsoft Sentinel users to build and deploy customized agentic workflow automations AUSTIN, Texas, July 31, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BlinkOps, the Agentic Security Automation Platform, today announced its expanded collaboration with Microsoft through a new integration with Microsoft Sentinel, available in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, and its platform as an Azure Cloud Service. Microsoft Sentinel customers can now build and deploy automated agentic and deterministic workflows initiated and orchestrated by BlinkOps, directly in response to Microsoft Sentinel signals such as alerts and incidents, expanding to new paths of streamlined security operations and automated responses to threats. What this collaboration delivers: Expanded Automation Capabilities for Sentinel Users: The integration complements Sentinel's native SOAR functionality by adding a no-code interface and AI-powered logic. Teams can design and manage automation more efficiently, without relying solely on Logic Apps or engineering support. Available in Microsoft Azure Marketplace: BlinkOps is now available in the Azure Marketplace, enabling customers to purchase and deploy the platform using their Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC). This gives organizations access through unified billing and simplifies procurement within existing Microsoft agreements. Streamlined with Microsoft Sentinel: The new BlinkOps connector allows security teams to simplify workflows, and enhances the library of Sentinel-specific templates. BlinkOps is also available in the Microsoft Sentinel Content Hub, offering pre-packaged templates tailored to Sentinel use cases. BlinkOps' agentic automation platform is particularly well-suited for enterprises with complex and multi-tenant SOC environments, MSSPs, and organizations seeking to modernize their security operations with minimal overhead. This helps security teams reduce mean time to respond (MTTR), eliminate manual steps, and improve consistency across the SOC. "We are excited to partner with Microsoft to enable Microsoft Sentinel customers to quickly adopt and scale agentic automation to rapidly help solve operational challenges that security and IT teams face," said Gil Barak, CEO of BlinkOps. "With the availability of BlinkOps in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, security operations teams can quickly procure, deploy, and implement BlinkOps' AI driven automation with Microsoft Sentinel." "Security teams are under growing pressure to do more with less, and AI-powered automation is key to meeting that challenge," said Erez Einav, Corporate Vice President, Sentinel and Defender XDR at Microsoft. "By integrating BlinkOps with Microsoft Sentinel, we're enabling customers to turn alerts into end-to-end workflows with minimal manual effort. This empowers the SOC to accelerate triage, enforce consistent playbooks, and reduce time to resolution, all while adapting dynamically to each customer's unique environment." This integration gives security teams a direct path from detection to automated response inside the Microsoft Sentinel environment. By connecting Microsoft Sentinel alerts to BlinkOps' Agentic Automation platform, teams can reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and respond faster across the SOC. About BlinkOps BlinkOps is an Agentic Security Automation Platform that enables teams to automate all aspects of their security operations by combining AI security agents with deterministic workflows. Security teams retain full control as they deploy their own custom army of micro-agents - each tasked and responsible for managing specific jobs and capable of taking autonomous decisions. These agents leverage the agentic and deterministic security workflows assigned to them or by calling upon peer agents as required. To learn more, visit and follow us on LinkedIn. 2025 Hall of Fame: Antonio Gates was a pretty good tight end for a college power forward

Four men will be formally enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday in Canton, Ohio. Yahoo Sports will take a relatively short look at each legend and how he reached football immortality. [More on Hall of Famers: Sterling Sharpe | Jared Allen] There's a typical path for NFL players. They play college football, get drafted and then earn their way onto a roster. Antonio Gates wasn't drafted. And he didn't play college football. Somehow he became a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Gates' path to the Hall of Fame is literally unlike any other. The longtime Chargers tight end is the first one to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player without appearing in a college football game, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. There's at least a little more history for undrafted players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Before Gates, 22 players went from undrafted to a bust in Canton. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] There are very few players through NFL history who simply made it on a pro roster without playing a down of college football. Gates became one of the best ever without a college football background. Some Hall of Famers played at small schools, and a few came up through junior college. There are some Hall of Famers who played at a school that discontinued its football program, and a few played at schools that don't exist anymore. But all of them played football on that level. Most players in the Pro Football Hall of Fame are also in the College Football Hall of Fame. Usually great pro football players were great college players, too. Gates was a great college player. Just not at football. Antonio Gates' basketball background Gates was part of a legendary basketball team at Kent State. In his junior season, he led the Golden Flashes to their first conference championship, then on an improbable run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. He averaged 16 points and 8.1 rebounds a game as a junior, and then 20.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists as a senior. He's one of five Kent State basketball players to have their number retired by the school. Gates was undersized to be considered an NBA power forward, at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds, but had the size to be an NFL tight end. He also had a football background, though not in college. He was recruited by Nick Saban to play football at Michigan State, but he wanted to play basketball too and Saban wouldn't let him, leading to Gates transferring. When Gates was done with hoops at Kent State, he tried out for NFL teams. The size and athletic ability had many teams interested in him as a project, and the Chargers signed him after the 2003 NFL Draft. It's hard enough for an undrafted rookie to make it in the NFL, and much harder for one that hadn't played football since high school. But Gates made the team and held his own as a rookie, bringing in 24 passes for 389 yards while starting 11 games. That alone would be an unbelievable story. Then, in Gates' second season, he was the best tight end in the NFL, less than two years removed from scoring more than 20 points per game in basketball. Gates sets records at tight end Gates was first-team All-Pro in 2004, setting an NFL record for tight ends with 13 touchdown catches. That was the first of three straight seasons in which he was recognized as the best tight end in the NFL. Gates finished his career with 116 touchdown receptions, seventh-most in NFL history and the most for any tight end. He had five more TD catches than Tony Gonzalez. Gates is the Chargers' all-time leader in receptions (955) and yards (11,841). He also paved the way for other college basketball players to get opportunities from NFL teams looking for the next Antonio Gates. But, in many ways, Gates was one of one. We might never see another player to not play a down of college football and end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player. Gates' journey was borderline miraculous. "I think it was just a surreal moment for the most part because you work so hard to reach a level in sports," Gates told about his election in the Hall of Fame. "Then you talk about the Hall of Fame, it's like a funnel, and you know how many people get out of the bottom of that funnel. It starts wide and gets really small. "To be sitting in football heaven, words can't really describe it."
