'After several hours of treatment, the elephant finally collapsed late on Saturday evening due to excessive blood loss and infection. It had sustained a major injury to its hind limb, which became severely infected and spread throughout its body,' said Saranda Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Aviroop Sinha. He added that further details would be available following the post-mortem, scheduled for Sunday.

Maoists deny reports on Damodar's surrender, distance themselves from threat letter to Minister Seethakka
The CPI (Maoist) Telangana State Committee has distanced itself from a recent letter published in a section of the media, threatening Mulugu MLA and Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Dansari Anasuya (Seethakka) in the name of their Telangana State Committee. The letter criticised Seethakka for allegedly neglecting tribal rights, but the party clarified that it had no connection with the letter, a statement issued on Saturday in the name of the party Telangana spokesperson Jagan said. The committee claimed that reports of Damodar's surrender or death have been repeatedly spread by the police. Such reports are a 'deliberate misinformation campaign' carried out by the police as part of a psychological warfare to confuse the revolutionary forces. The Maoists highlighted the contradiction between the Congress government's stance on Maoist issue. While the Congress government has declared the Maoist problem as a social and political issue that cannot be resolved through repression and is demanding that the Central government stop encounters, the police are harassing innocent tribals in Mulugu, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and Asifabad districts by summoning them to police stations. The Maoist party urged the people to take note of this disparity.

Chhattisgarh: Maoist killed in encounter in Indravati National Park region
RAIPUR: A Maoist was killed in an encounter between Maoists and security forces in the dense forested terrain of the Indravati National Park area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said on Saturday. Police said they are yet to ascertain the identity of the slain Maoist. (Representational image) Police said the operation was launched based on intelligence about the presence of top Maoist cadres on Friday and has since witnessed intermittent gunfire. Inspector general (IG) of police, Bastar range, Sundarraj P, said that security forces acting on credible inputs initiated a coordinated search operation involving multiple units and during the course of the operation, the body of a male Maoist was recovered from the encounter site along with weapons. 'We are yet to ascertain his identity,' the IG said. Given the active nature of the operation, officials have refrained from releasing further details to ensure the safety of personnel engaged in the mission. Security operations in the Bastar division have intensified in recent months, with forces targeting senior Maoist leadership believed to be operating in the region. The IG remarked that security forces are fully committed to sustaining anti-Maoist operations even during the monsoon season and emphasised that the CPI (Maoist), which has been declared unlawful,now has no option but to surrender and give up violence. 'Over the past 18 months, a total of 415 Maoist cadres have been killed in various encounters across the Bastar range. This number includes top CPI (Maoist) leaders such as general secretary Basavaraju alias Ganganna and central committee member Gautam alias Sudhakar, marking a significant setback for the insurgent group,' the IG said.
