Garmin Forerunner 255 returns to its lowest ever price for Prime Day — is it still worth getting in 2025?
The question is how old is too old with regards to buying a Garmin watch. The Garmin Forerunner 255 is just $199 at Amazon right now, matching its lowest ever price, but it's three-years-old now and has been superseded by two newer models.
I'd say it's still worth looking at, because at that price it undercuts the current Garmin Forerunner range entirely, and the Forerunner 255 still has all the features you really need in a sports watch. (For more deals, check out our Prime Day deals live blog).
The Garmin Forerunner 255 has crashed back down to its lowest ever price ahead of Prime Day, with black and blue watches available for $199 on Amazon. It's an old watch but offers reliably accurate tracking and useful training analysis for both runners and triathletes, all in a lightweight design. If you want music storage too, the Forerunner 255 Music is $248 in the sale.
I've tested the Garmin Forerunner 255 as well as the Garmin Forerunner 265 and Garmin Forerunner 570 — the two models that have come out since the 255 to supersede it — and when it comes to the core sports tracking experience on the watches the 255 holds its own.
The Forerunner 255 offers multi-band GPS tracking, the most accurate mode, and a wide array of customizable sports modes. It also has detailed training analysis, even if it doesn't offer all the features available on the newer watches such as training readiness.
Some of the bigger upgrades you get on newer Garmin watches include AMOLED screens, a revamped user interface and an improved optical heart rate sensor that's more accurate than the one on the Forerunner 255.
You'll pay a lot more to get those new features though. Even the cheapest Forerunner in the current line-up — the Garmin Forerunner 165 — is more expensive than the Forerunner 255 at this reduced price.
One thing you won't get with the Forerunner 255 is a lot of new features via software updates, because Garmin reserves those for its latest devices. It's a great watch with the features it has right now though, and you'll still get good customer support if anything goes wrong.
Even with the Forerunner 255 being an older watch I think it's unlikely that its price drops further than this, so if you want a reliable sports watch for under $200, this might well be your best bet this Prime Day.

Starbucks remote workers ordered to return to office 4 days a week
Remote workers will have to return to the office at least four days a week – up from three – or take a buyout as CEO Brian Niccol works to turnaround the coffee chain's prolonged sales slump. The company's new in-office requirement will apply to all office workers starting in October, Niccol said Monday. Starbucks is offering employees who decide to leave the company a one-time voluntary exit program that includes a cash payment. 'We are reestablishing our in-office culture because we do our best work when we're together,' Niccol said in a statement. 'We share ideas more effectively, creatively solve hard problems, and move much faster. Being in person also helps us build and strengthen our culture. As we work to turn the business around, all these things matter more than ever.' Many office workers got hooked on remote work as the COVID-19 pandemic shut down offices across America. Five years later, a growing number of employers from Amazon to JPMorgan Chase are winding back the clock on remote work. Starbucks began requiring employees to return to the office at least three days a week in 2023. Now it will also require all corporate people managers working remotely to relocate to Seattle or Toronto within 12 months. Across industries, the moves have not always been popular with employees. Three-quarters of employed adults who have a job that can be done from home are working remotely at least some of the time, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey. If their employer no longer allowed them that flexibility, nearly half said they would be unlikely to stay on. Is remote work only for rich CEOs? Double standard ignites workplace tensions Also unpopular is the perception of a double standard for executives. Some top executives run their businesses from the comfort of their home office hundreds or even thousands of miles from the corporate headquarters. Niccol has been Starbucks' highest-profile remote worker. Last year, the company lured him from Chipotle Mexican Grill with a deal that permits him to commute 1,600 miles from his Newport Beach, California, home to the company's Seattle headquarters on the company's private jet and on its dime. Starbucks says Niccol now has an office and a residence in Seattle. Niccol's arrangement attracted a lot of media attention, 'putting him in an uncomfortable position,' said Stanford University economics professor Nick Bloom, who studies remote work. 'I suspect part of this move is also for Niccol to reestablish himself as the tough in-person leader and move away from being seen as some kind of work-from-home champion.'

I'm a professional baker — 10 kitchen tools I've tried and would re-buy (so many are on sale right now)
In my friend group, I'm definitely the personality hire, except when it comes to cooking advice. After a decade of working on food trucks and in bakeries (even opening my own in 2015), I've become the go-to person to ask, 'Why did my cookies go flat?' or 'What should I make for Easter dinner?' Cooking and baking professionally, combined with years of trial and error as a home cook, means I've tested (and tossed) a lot of kitchen equipment in my life. Over the years, I've formed very strong opinions about what to splurge on and what to skip altogether when it comes to outfitting your kitchen. I've cooked up a list of my favourite kitchen appliances, utensils, and accessories that have proven to be ride-or-die for the everyday home chef. You may be shocked to find that the thermometer I've trusted for over five years is one of the most inexpensive on the market. I use the Thermo Digital Thermometer for everything from checking whether my roast chicken is cooked through to making sure boiled sugar is hot enough to turn into marshmallows. It's compact and easy to read, and I can't even remember the last time I needed to change the batteries—sometimes, simplicity is best when it comes to cooking. Getting to feed delicious things to the people I love is a big part of why I enjoy cooking. After years of entertaining, I recently found a new favourite hosting hack: Pacolit P's Warming Mat. The pressure of making sure everything on the Thanksgiving table is ready at the same time has finally been lifted. This mat has three temperature settings to keep the mashed potatoes from cooling while you're carving the turkey. I'm never hosting another dinner party without it. A bench scraper is a non-negotiable tool in any kitchen I cook in. I first learned how handy they can be working in professional bakeries, and it turns out they're just as useful in my home kitchen. Dividing pizza dough, scrapping flour off counters, and scooping up chopped onions — this may be the most versatile tool in my kitchen that's under $20! The Anaeat scraper has the added benefit of measuring guides, making it the perfect gift for amateur bakers. It doesn't take a professional baker to know that KitchenAid Stand Mixers don't always do the greatest job of incorporating everything in the bowl.
