Sabah Umno leader tells GRS rep to 'look in the mirror' over governance criticism
Sabah Umno information chief, who is also Libaran MP, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir (pic) , said Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, who currently serves as the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, should "look in the mirror" before criticising others over the state's infrastructure challenges.
"Between 1999 and 2023, when Sabah's timber revenue reached RM5.3bil, who were the ministers and assistant ministers responsible for managing these resources?" Suhaimi said in a statement on Thursday (May 15).
"Who failed to manage the state's natural wealth properly? Despite years of massive revenue collections, who neglected basic infrastructure like water, electricity, and roads. These are not problems that appeared overnight, but the result of decades of poor governance," he added.
Suhaimi was responding to Nizam's recent remarks, in which the latter defended the current GRS government, arguing that Sabah's infrastructure problems were inherited from previous administrations.
"Don't blame the party, because parties have no life. It's the living ministers who must take responsibility – including you, Nizam," Suhaimi said.
He further argued that Nizam and other GRS leaders, including Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, should take responsibility for these past failures, as they were part of the same administrations that oversaw these critical sectors.
"Without Umno, you might still be waiting in line for a seat of power, never knowing the trust of the people," Suhaimi said.
Suhaimi also dismissed attempts to deflect blame, arguing that the current Umno leadership in Sabah, made up of 90% new faces, is focused on correcting the mistakes of the past.
"Don't try to cover up your own failures by throwing mud at others. Sabah needs leaders who know how to work, not just those who know how to put on a show," he added.
"People don't need the voices of frogs from old political ponds. They need voices of sincere and honest development," he said.

Umno will not abandon BN component partners, says Zahid
SUNGAI BULOH: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed today that the party will not abandon its component partners in Barisan Nasional (BN), MCA, MIC and Friends of BN, no matter what the situation. Zahid, who is also BN chairman, also urged component parties not to be hasty nor threaten to leave the coalition in light of current political challenges. "I tell my (component) partners, currently it's tough, MIC has one seat, MCA has two and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) one seat in Sabah. "We (Umno) also have it tough, only 26 seats, used to be 64 and before then over a hundred. "In times of trouble, Umno will not abandon MCA, MIC, PBRS or Friends of BN. "This is our way, don't threaten to leave during hard times," he said during his speech officiating the Selayang Umno division delegates' meeting here on Saturday. He also denied allegations that BN component parties like MCA were sidelined in seat allocations, including Malay-majority seats, during a media conference after the meeting, pointing out that MCA and MIC were entrusted with contesting in traditional Malay seats. "Which Malay-majority seat do we not give to MCA? Tanjung Piai isn't a Malay seat? Or Ayer Hitam isn't a Malay seat? All Malay seats that we give to MCA means we respect them. "MCA is a loyal BN component partner since a long time back, that's what we will preserve. "The same with seats to MIC, all Malay seats we give are entrusted to them to contest," he said. Previous media reports had stated that former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker was urging the party not to be sidelined during the 16th general election and needed to be given suitable seats to prove their relevance, including Malay-majority seats. In other developments, Zahid urged those who were pressing for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign to respect the legal process and democratic system in the country, pointing out that Anwar currently enjoyed the support of 154 MPs, or over two-thirds majority.

Hajiji to consult GRS partners first on dissolving state assembly
GRS chairman Hajiji Noor, who is chief minister, said he would discuss and inform the GRS party presidents when the time comes to dissolve the assembly. PETALING JAYA : Any decision to seek dissolution of the Sabah state assembly, which would trigger fresh elections, will be made only with the consensus of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah partners, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said today. Hajiji, who is chief minister, said that while he holds the prerogative to advise the governor, Musa Aman, to dissolve the assembly, he prefers that the decision be made collectively, in line with a GRS commitment to joint decision-making. 'We are in GRS, and any decision must go through the Supreme Council,' Bernama quoted him as saying. 'I will discuss and inform the party presidents when the time comes to dissolve the assembly,' he told reporters in Penampang, Sabah, after closing a joint convention of Parti Bersatu Sabah and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku. However, he did not indicate when the discussion with the Supreme Council would be held. When asked whether he would allow the assembly to dissolve automatically this November, Hajiji said the matter would be considered carefully. The current state assembly's term expires on Nov 11, if not dissolved earlier. Election must be held within 60 days of dissolution. Commenting on speculation that GRS may contest the election independently, Hajiji said the matter would also be discussed at the Supreme Council level. The party has been in discussions with Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional about electoral cooperation, after stating that it could contest the election on its own should PH and BN form an alliance. Earlier today, the opposition Perikatan Nasional ruled out electoral alliance with GRS. GRS comprises Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, PBS, STAR, Parti Maju Sabah, United Sabah National Organisation , Liberal Democratic Party, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Cinta Sabah. Hajiji described today's PBS-STAR convention as a historic milestone that strengthened local political cooperation. It reflected political maturity, prioritising the interests of the people and the state over political differences, he said.

Govt MPs to attend retreat next week
Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said he can help to brief government MPs from Sarawak and Sabah. PETALING JAYA : The unity government will hold a retreat for all government MPs next week, says deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof. Fadillah said the retreat will allow the MPs to have a better understanding of the national issues that Putrajaya is facing, Bernama reported. Responding to questions about whether Gabungan Parti Sarawak MPs were present during a meeting between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Barisan Nasional MPs in Putrajaya last night, Fadillah said he is willing to brief MPs from GPS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah if required. 'For GPS, we have no issue. With our small number of MPs, I can engage with them directly. These matters were discussed in the Cabinet, so I know what needs to be clarified. 'The prime minister would have limited time if he were to meet all MPs individually. I can assist by briefing GPS and GRS MPs. 'A retreat involving all unity government MPs, including ministers and deputy ministers, is scheduled for next week. We'll use that platform to provide further explanations,' Fadillah, a senior vice-president of GPS lynchpin Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, told reporters in Kuching today. Anwar attended a unity government retreat with 27 ministers at the Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya in January 2023. Bernama reported that the retreat was made up of briefing sessions covering key issues such as the implementation of key performance indicators, government structures, public administration affairs, and financial management. The sessions also touched on government procurement, government protocol, professionalism, sustainable development, economic scenarios and media communication. Earlier today, BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said BN MPs met with Anwar at his official residence in Putrajaya last night as part of regular engagements with all parties in the unity government. He said the meeting revolved around policies and current matters that required clarification from the prime minister. Pakatan Harapan MPs and senators have been invited to a meeting with Anwar at his official residence in Putrajaya on July 14.
