Randy Arozarena hit two homers and drove in four runs and Cal Raleigh went deep for the major-league-leading 33rd time this season as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Monday.
Mariners starter George Kirby (2-4) allowed one run on three hits over six innings as the Mariners earned their second victory in a row and their sixth in the past nine games. The right-hander didn't walk a batter and struck out five.
The Royals lost for the eighth time in nine games.
Kansas City starter Michael Wacha (4-8) cruised through the first 3 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit, before Arozarena went deep to right-center to tie the score at 1-all.
The Mariners broke the tie with four runs in the fifth. Cole Young, J.P. Crawford and Julio Rodriguez began the inning with singles to load the bases. Raleigh gave Seattle the lead with a sacrifice fly to right before Arozarena hit a three-run shot to center to make it 5-1.
Wacha went five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits, with two walks and one strikeout.
Raleigh added to the Mariners' lead with a blast to center leading off the bottom of the seventh against Royals reliever Daniel Lynch IV.
Bobby Witt Jr. drove in both runs for the Royals, who have scored just 20 runs over their past nine games -- with nine of those coming in their lone victory in that span.
Kansas City scored its first run with a two-out rally in the third inning. Kyle Isbel and Johnathan India singled before Witt hit a liner off the glove of diving second baseman Cole Young to plate Isbel.
The Royals added a run in the eighth off Trent Thornton after loading the bases with one out as John Rave singled, Isbel walked and India was hit by a pitch. Rave scored as Witt grounded into a forceout.

Jamie Smith breaks wicketkeeping record with 272-run masterclass, but India close in on victory at Edgbaston
ANI 06 Jul 2025, 22:48 GMT+10 Birmingham [UK], July 6 (ANI): Jamie Smith produced a sensational performance with the bat in the ongoing Test match against India at Edgbaston, crafting a remarkable 272-run aggregate across both innings, now the highest ever by an England wicketkeeper in Test history. Batting with maturity and flair from the lower-middle order, Smith remained unbeaten on 184 in the first innings and followed it up with another attacking 88 in the second, falling just short of a double century and a ton in the same match. Smith has surpassed the previous England record for most runs by a wicketkeeper in a Test, crossing Alec Stewart's 204 runs against South Africa in 1998. He also went past the likes of Jonny Bairstow (199) and Alan Knott (197), both of whom had held significant match aggregates but now sit behind Smith in the all-time list. Globally, Smith's total is now the third-highest match aggregate by any wicketkeeper in the history of Test cricket. Only Zimbabwe's Andy Flower has scored more in a single match, with staggering tallies of 341 runs against South Africa in Harare in 2001 and 287 against India in Nagpur in 2000. Smith also finds himself just ahead of India's Rishabh Pant, who had scored 252 runs against England in the first Test at Headingley. Despite Smith's heroics, the match appears to be slipping away from England. Chasing a tough target of 608, they stumbled badly, and after Smith's dismissal, the hosts found themselves reeling at 226/8, still 382 runs left. (ANI)

Dominant Sakshi opens India's gold medal account at World Boxing Cup in Astana
ANI 06 Jul 2025, 18:44 GMT+10 Astana [Kazakhstan], July 6 (ANI): Two-time youth world champion Sakshi bagged India's first gold medal at the World Boxing Cup - Astana, Kazakhstan 2025 with a dominant performance in the women's 54kg final here on Sunday. The 24-year-old was at her attacking best against USA's Yosline Perez to get a unanimous verdict from the judges, as per a press release from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). The Indian contingent has had a fruitful outing at the World Boxing Cup here and is assured of a total of 11 medals. India had bagged six medals in the first leg in Brazil, including a gold and a silver. There were four Indian boxers in action in the first session on Sunday, and it was Sakshi who managed to stand atop the podium with a stellar display that combined speed and combination punches. Earlier, Meenakshi pushed hard for victory against local favourite Nazym Kyzaibay in the 48kg final but ended on the wrong side of a 3:2 verdict. Jugnoo (men's 85kg) and Pooja Rani (women's 80kg) will also return home with silver medals after losing their respective finals. Diamondbacks look to Corbin Carroll in rubber game vs. Royals
(Photo credit: Patrick Breen/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images) Arizona's Corbin Carroll was 0-for-5 in his return Saturday after missing more than two weeks with a fractured left wrist, but the Diamondbacks will need his contributions to get out of their doldrums. Despite their 7-1 win over the Kansas City Royals in Phoenix on Saturday, the Diamondbacks have lost seven of their last 10 games entering Sunday afternoon's rubber game of the series. Carroll, the team's right fielder and leadoff hitter, is batting .251 with 20 home runs and 44 RBIs this season. He has impressed teammates by returning to the lineup so quickly. 'He just wants to help the team win,' third baseman Eugenio Suarez said. 'And he's hungry to play. He's a guy who loves this game and just wants to be out in the field. It's very impressive because with the fracture he has, they said he might be lost for like a month, but he's back (much sooner). It's awesome for us. For me, I was very happy to see him back in the lineup.' Said manager Torey Lovullo: 'I'm grateful for the commitment and the dedication. He's one of our best players and one of the best players in the National League, and the fact he's in the lineup is going to give us a much-needed boost.' Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (0-0, 4.82 ERA) is Arizona's scheduled starter on Sunday. He has one previous appearance against the Royals in his career. He got a no-decision in a start, while with the San Francisco Giants on April 9, 2023. DeSclafani allowed a run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings, did not walk a batter and struck out seven in a 3-1 Giants victory. Kansas City was stifled by Ryne Nelson on Saturday. He retired the first 16 Royals in order and allowed a run and four hits over seven innings. Nelson did not walk a batter and struck out five. Kansas City's only offense came in the sixth inning. Freddy Fermin singled with one out to become the Royals' first base runner. Jonathan India singled one out later, and Bobby Witt Jr. followed with an RBI single. Center fielder Alek Thomas then came to Nelson's rescue by denying Kansas City more runs when he made a sliding catch coming in on Vinnie Pasquantino's liner with two outs and runners on first and third to end the inning. 'We were another hit away from a couple more runs,' India said. 'The center fielder made a really good play on Vinnie's ball. So it just didn't go our way.' The Royals will send right-hander Michael Lorenzen (4-8, 4.95 ERA) to the mound on Sunday. He's 2-1 with a 3.26 ERA in nine career games against the Diamondbacks. The last time Lorenzen faced them, he was a member of the Detroit Tigers. That was on June 9, 2023, when he started and took the loss by giving up six earned runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Lorenzen walked a batter and struck out three. The D-backs won 11-6. --Field Level Media
