Salik toll gates: How to pass through for free
Here at Time Out Dubai, we're always looking for ways to save you money. And with the dynamic Salik toll gate fees since the end of January, we thought you might need this information more than ever. Salik is Dubai's automated toll collection system, and each time a vehicle passes through a toll point, a variable fee is deducted depending on the time of day you're on the road. There are currently 10 Salik Gates in Dubai. These are: Al Barsha Al Garhoud Al Maktoum Al Mamzar South Al Mamzar North Al Safa North Al Safa South Airport Tunnel Business Bay Crossing Jebel Ali Here's how you can pass through Salik toll gates for free. Between the hours of 1am and 6am every day, passing through all Salik gates is now completely free. Otherwise, Salik toll fees are Dhs6 at rush hour between 6am and 10am and Dhs4 between 10am and 4pm, 8pm to 1am and all day on Sunday. New Salik toll gate pricing in full 1am – 6am: free 6am – 10am: Dhs6 10am – 4pm: Dhs4 4pm – 8pm: Dhs6 8pm – 1am: Dhs4 Sundays (excluding public holidays, special occasions and major events): Dhs4 Drive under one, get the other one free Credit: Flikr If you're on the way to Sharjah and you pass through Al Mamzar South, you will pay Dhs4. But if you then pass through Al Mamzar North within one hour, you can drive underneath that toll gate for free. And vice versa… When passing through Al Mamzar North on your way to the Al Mamzar South gate in the same direction within an hour you will only be charged only once. That's technically a discount (sort of). Similarly, if you're passing through Al Safa North then you won't be charged for driving through Al Safa South if you travel within one hour and vice versa. Setting up your Salik To sign up for your Salik, go online to buy a tag or stop by any petrol station in Dubai. You can then stick your tag to your windshield, add credit and you're able to pass through the toll gates with ease. Each payment will be deducted automatically. You can register, buy a tag and recharge all your credit by heading to or via the Smart Salik App available in the Apple Store and Google Play store. A Salik tag costs Dhs100 to set up, which includes Dhs50 for the tag itself and Dhs50 for a pre-paid toll balance.
