Taron Egerton laughs off 'strange' Wolverine rumours

Perth Now4 days ago
Taron Egerton says rumours linking him to the role of Wolverine are "strange" and feel "like a joke".
The Kingsman: The Secret Service star is regularly hit by gossip suggesting he could be in line to take over the X-Men character from Hugh Jackman - who has played Wolverine onscreen in various movies since 2000 - but Taron is adamant the speculation isn't based on anything solid and it resurfaces every time he strips off in a film.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I feel like it happens every time I take my shirt off in a film. The truth of the matter is I don't look like that when I take my shirt off, unless it's in a film where the part needs me to look that way.
"The Wolverine thing is almost like a joke at this point. Every time I have a project come out, there's a moment where people talk about it, and I'm the one person who is not qualified to talk about it.
"It's quite strange, but it's flattering. It's always lovely to think that anybody would want you to play a beloved role, but I also think no one is ever going to accept anyone in that role other than Hugh Jackman. He's completely synonymous with it."
In the interview, Taron also talked about his role in hit Netflix movie Carry-On, in which he played an airport Transportation Security Administration worker caught up in a blackmail plot on Christmas Eve, and insisted there are currently no plans for a sequel.
He said: "Carry-On 2 is really hard. It's a celebration of Christmas and a celebration of people who work at Christmas.
"It then needs to have this huge plot that needs to be foiled and maybe the earwig component. All of that is quite hard to achieve in a sequel without it feeling contrived and to the point of defying credulity.
"So I have not heard anything, but who knows, stranger things have happened."
Taron also insisted the role hasn't made travelling through airports more difficult for him. He said: "I took a photo with a TSA agent at the Dallas airport a couple days ago when I was traveling here to New York, and that was a really nice bit of symmetry.
"But it's not like it's made travel impossible or anything. Generally, I get by pretty unnoticed."

'Celebrating the woman behind it all': Meghan Markle appears to wish herself a happy 44th birthday via her As Ever brand - as royal family snub the Duchess of Sussex again

Meghan Markle has celebrated her 44th birthday at home in California with her husband Prince Harry and their children Archie and Lilibet - but the former working royal received no well wishes from the royal family. Markle's birthday celebrations kicked off with a social media story from the Duchess advertising an upcoming drop of her polarising wines. In the short clip, Markle is seen carrying a basket of her signature wines and also dangling her legs while wearing a pair of pricey Hermes sandals. 'Coming soon,' the caption said. However Meghan appeared not to miss the opportunity to pay tribute to herself. In a gushing post from her own As Ever lifestyle brand, a black and white photo of a smiling Markle was captioned, "Celebrating the woman behind it all. She pours her heart, vision & magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her! Happy birthday to our founder @meghan". While well-wishes for the Duchess of Sussex's birthday are already flooding in on social media, the entire royal family is expected to snub the milestone for the third year running. The Sussexes 'stepped back' as working members of the Royal Family in January 2020, before permanently relocating to California in June that year. However, the royal family continued to acknowledge Harry and Meghan's birthdays after the Sussexes left the royal family. As recently as 2022, William and Kate shared a message with their millions of followers on social media publicly wishing Prince Harry's wife a happy birthday when she turned 41. The entire monarchy has snubbed Meghan and Harry's birthdays since then, which coincided with the death of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III ascending the throne. At the time, royal aides said they only marked the birthdays of 'working members' of the Royal Family on their official social media accounts. Noticeably, the decision to stop marking Harry and Meghan's birthdays also coincided with the release of the couple's Netflix series slamming the monarchy. Markle's big day comes amid reports the Sussexes are finally starting to repair relations with the royal family ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Reportedly, the Duke of Sussex is eager for both his wife and his estranged family to come together for the games, which will mark the event's return to the UK for the first time since 2014.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex wished a happy birthday by her As Ever brand

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex's As Ever brand has wished "the woman behind it all" a happy birthday. The royal turned 44 on Monday (04.08.25) and has marked the occasion by releasing new wine products through her lifestyle brand and delivering a gushing social media tribute to herself via the company's social media. A new Instagram post from As Ever is captioned: "Celebrating the woman behind it all. "She pours her heart, vision and magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her! Happy birthday to our founder." The former Suits actress - who was known as Meghan Markle before she married Prince Harry in 2018 - also revealed on her birthday that As Ever's signature pink wine will be available to customers on Tuesday (05.08.25), making the tipple's first restock since it was unveiled in the brand's June product drop. An email message reads: "Today, our founder celebrates another year (Happy Birthday, Meghan!) and tomorrow, we're raising a glass to celebrate our newest release! "We are thrilled to share that our 2024 Napa Valley Rose is available tomorrow, Tuesday August 5." The note added: "Harvested under the California sun, this dazzling vintage embodies everything we love - it's where timeless elegance meets the spirit of summer. "We've worked thoughtfully to bring these exceptional bottles to you, and more of your other favourite As Ever products are also being restocked shortly. There is so much to celebrate, and we're honoured to share these special moments with you." Meghan and Harry - who have children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, together - stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and moved from the UK to California but it was reported recently that the pair's lucrative Netflix contract, said to be worth around $100 million, will not be renewed once it expires in September. The pair worked on a number of shows for the streamer - including the tell-all documentary Harry and Meghan and the Duchess' lifestyle series With Love, Meghan - but both parties feel that the arrangement has come to a natural end. A source told The Sun newspaper: "The deal is done; no more shows will be made. Netflix feel they've got all they can from the couple... They're not unhappy with how things turned out — they got those initial hits, and produced one of the most talked-about shows of all time. "There's no animosity from either side. Things have just run their course." Another insider told the Daily Mail newspaper: "They're just waiting for the credits to roll. They're letting it expire without drama. There's no appetite for anything new."

Halsey was 'picky' before making movie debut in Americana

Halsey was "cautiously picky" before deciding to make her major movie debut in Americana. The 30-year-old star features in Tony Tost's modern Western and explained that she "really connected" with the project, which is finally hitting cinemas later this month after being filmed in 2022. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the movie's LA premiere on Sunday (03.08.25), Halsey said: "I'd been waiting a really long time, I'd been really cautiously picky about what I was going to do for my first project for getting into this world, into this space. "Tony reached out and he was so personable and so talented and I just really connected with the script and the character. Little did I know we were going to be making it during Covid, which was a crazy experience." The Bad at Love singer - who has son Ender, four, with her ex-partner Alev Aydin - added: "And from the moment I read the script until we started shooting. I got pregnant, had a whole pregnancy, gave birth to my son, had my son on set with me, and without giving anything away, it's really serendipitous to (her character) Mandy's arc in the film." Halsey stars in the movie alongside Sydney Sweeney - who had previously appeared in the music video for her 2019 song Graveyard - and was grateful to the Echo Valley actress for answering her "stupid questions" on set. She recalled: "We were actually hanging out a bunch during Covid, so when I got the call she was doing the movie we had like just gone hiking a few days before, so it was like, 'Oh cool, I'll see you there.' "It was just really great to have someone to learn from, to ask questions to - the stupid questions you don't think of. It was my first time on a movie set in a real way; just being like, 'Who do I look at? Who do I listen to? What's the cool code words I don't know, the actor lingo?' So having someone to ask the stupid questions to was great." Halsey - whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane - has revealed that she is developing the new Amazon series Bloodlust, although she is thankful that she will not be acting in the dark comedy. She explained: "I started the pilot a few years ago and Amazon wanted it and they took it and now we're getting it on the road. There's not so much that I can say but it's really cool to be part of a project that I don't face. It's quite relieving." Halsey added: "(I'm) just behind the scenes, just the puppet master. "I don't have to do my makeup."
