Punjab Assembly condemns Israel for attacking Iran
LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning Israel's attack on Iran during its session on Friday, which also saw discussions on other key provincial matters. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan reprimanded Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Mansoor Azam over non-participation of members in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee and non-release of funds. Government member Imran Javed demanded that biogas produced from dung should be supplied to local communities, to which the parliamentary secretary pledged support once gas production capacity increases.
The session witnessed a heated exchange between opposition member Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan and treasury member Rana Muhammad Arshad. Furthermore, opposition members chanted slogans demanding the release of PTI's founder during the session presided over by Speaker Khan. The Speaker warned them, stating, 'Don't mess with me, behave well with me. Whether anyone knows about me or not, Sardar Muhammad Ali knows.' Subsequently, the Speaker criticized Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Mansoor Azam regarding CSR funds and committee member issues, leading to a five-minute adjournment.
Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique sought permission to present the resolution on the Israeli attack on Iran. The Speaker suspended the rules and approved the resolution. It stated that just as the international community played its role in securing a ceasefire in the Pakistan-India conflict, global institutions must similarly fulfill their responsibility to stop Israeli aggression against Iran and Palestine.
A resolution by government member Mansab Ali Dogar against ineffective poplar tree plantations was also passed unanimously. The resolution declared poplar trees ineffective for the environment, demanding a ban on their plantation and recommending an emergency tree plantation drive in July 2025.

Israeli strikes on south Lebanon kill three: ministry
BEIRUT: Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon killed three people on Saturday, the Lebanese health ministry said, in the latest attacks despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. In a statement, the health ministry said that an 'Israeli enemy' drone strike on a car in Kunin, south Lebanon, killed one man, adding later that another person was wounded. The Israeli military said the strike 'eliminated the terrorist Hassan Muhammad Hammoudi', who it said was responsible for anti-tank missile attacks against Israeli territory during the recent war. In a second statement later on Saturday, the health ministry said a strike on a motorcycle in Mahrouna, near Tyre, resulted in 'two martyrs and wounded one person', with one of the dead a woman. But Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said on social media that the army 'did not target any civilian building', attributing the death to a Hezbollah rocket set off by an Israeli strike. The Israeli military said it had 'identified rehabilitation attempts made by Hezbollah beforehand and struck terror infrastructure sites in the area'. Adraee said the civilian building 'was hit by a rocket that was inside the (fire and defence array) site and launched and exploded as a result of the strike'. Israel has repeatedly bombed its northern neighbour despite the November ceasefire that aimed to end over a year of hostilities with Hezbollah. Under the ceasefire deal, Hezbollah was to pull its fighters back north of the Litani river, about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the Israeli border, leaving the Lebanese army and United Nations peacekeepers as the only armed parties in the region. Israel was required to fully withdraw its troops from the country, but has kept them in five locations in south Lebanon that it deems strategic.

Israel says missile launched by Yemen's Houthis ‘most likely' intercepted
The Israeli army said on Saturday that a missile fired from Yemen towards Israeli territory had been 'most likely successfully intercepted', while Yemen's Houthi forces claimed responsibility for the launch. Israel has threatened Yemen's Houthi movement - which has been attacking Israel in what it says is solidarity with Gaza - with a naval and air blockade if its attacks on Israel persist. The Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group was responsible for Saturday's attack, adding that it fired a missile towards the southern Israeli city of Beersheba. Punjab Assembly Speaker suspends 26 opposition members
The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan on Saturday suspended 26 members of the opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for disrupting Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's speech and causing chaos in the assembly session, according to Aaj News. The Assembly Secretariat confirmed that the suspension was issued under Rule 210(3) of the Assembly Rules, barring the members from attending the next 15 assembly sittings. During the session, opposition members shouted slogans, engaged in physical shoving, and tore official documents, violating the assembly's rules of conduct. The Speaker 'condemned' their behavior, saying such disorderly conduct damages the dignity and discipline of the House. He acknowledged that while protesting is a right of assembly members, it must follow the limits set by the Constitution and parliamentary procedures. The Speaker emphasized that maintaining order in the assembly is essential and will be strictly enforced.
